• Hi Guest !

    Welcome to the 500Eboard forum.

Since its founding in late 2008, 500Eboard has become the leading resource on the Internet for all things related to the Mercedes-Benz 500E and E500. In recent years, we have also expanded to include the 400E and E420 models, which are directly related to the 500E/E500.

We invite you to browse and take advantage of the information and resources here on the site. If you find helpful information, please register for full membership, and you'll find even more resources available. Feel free to ask questions, and make liberal use of the "Search" function to find answers.

We hope you will become an active contributor to the community!

MONTEREY CAR WEEK 2020 - 500E500 GTG - LEGENDS OF THE AUTOBAHN

For those interested in a GTG in August 2020

I realize this is a bit early, but proper prior planning is needed to achieve a well organized GTG. There are some logistical concerns regarding lodging, dining, and coordination of events so at this point I'm asking to see if there are any members that can commit early to help with this GTG. Specifically I would like the following:

- Member to organize and coordinate lodging, either AB&B or Motel rooms or a combinations or the two

- Member to organize dinners and lunches

- Member to organize a drive for the group

- I and 600Eric plan to liaise with MBCA and the Chair of LOTA for the show itself

Monterey Car Week is the second week of August

For Legends of the Autobahn (friday) the 500E500 will be the featured model celebrating 30 years from the debut at the Paris Motor Show

Saturday - Italiano Concourso
- Historic Vintage racing at Weathertech Raceway (Laguna Seca)

Sunday - The main event Pebble Beach

I plan to be in Monterey 2020 and I believe there should be enough interest to put together a high quality GTG.

Again, I realize this is early

Jeff

We won't be back till 2022 based on our current plans..so if this falls through keep Al, Stephen and I in mind for a little further out;-)

Jeff,

It's never too early to start planning. I will likely not be at Legends for 2019, but will definitely plan for 2020, and hopefully we can also have some 500Eboard involvement. I have a banner that the East Coast Crew produced for the GTG we did a few years back, that I would love to use at such a gathering.

Some out-loud brainstorming: It would be great perhaps to do the actual E500E GTG the day or two before Legends, and do it in the Bay Area. Then morph it to Monterey for Legends and the rest of the weekend. Perhaps we could have a committee of folks like RicardoD and jlaa to help out with a Bay Area GTG portion. We need to put them to work anyway (they spend way too much time on this site), so this could be a good "something" to sic them on.

And I will reserve airline miles to force Mr. & Mrs. GSXR down to California, so that the members of this forum can actually meet him and confirm that he is a real live human being, not a robot.

LOL! Mr. Roboto... hmmm, might have to pull the 744 out of mothballs and attempt a road trip. Or maybe take the Almandine project high-miler down there. Flying would be easier though. :D

What week / dates in August will this be? If not yet finalized, which weekend is it typically (early / middle / late)?

:scratchchin:

Dave, If you drive I would love to meet up somewhere with one of my cars and caravan down. Maybe we could get a NW caravan?

I'm in... was on the fence whether to bring the car this year, or next. I'll show something different this year.

STOKED!

Time to bump this thread.

Car week will start

Aug 7, 2020 at 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM

Monterey Car Week 2020 WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca kicks off Monterey Classic Car Week Kick-Off with a classic car show in Downtown Monterey. See 30 classic race cars lining the 300 block of...

For 2020 I plan to have former 500E owner Kyle come up with both T shirts and jackets. My goal is to have designs completed by December 31
and orders finalized by February 15, 2020

From my initial post. I will need other members to take on certain responsibilities as this cannot be a one man show.

@captruff, let's pull together a conference call with relevant folks in the near future. I have a dial-in phone number that we can use. I feel like we need to identify key folks up front. Also, I would like to have the 500Eboard tied-in to your shirt/jacket design somehow, if agreeable to you.

Let me know what date/time could work for you and @600Eric. I think perhaps an evening would work best, PDT, maybe on a Sunday night or a weeknight.

Gerry:

I fully intend to have Kyle incorporate elements of Legends and the 500Eboard. He is a talented graphic artist and he will come up with some designs that we can vote on.

I will speak to Eric and Kip and we will get a conference call set up for brainstorming ideas.

Thanks

Jeff

OK, sounds good. I am definitely willing to take on one of the areas you mentioned above, and hopefully to help organize a 500Eboard GTG that can coincide with Legends (perhaps doing it again in the OC/your shop). I am also going to plan to ship my car one-way to the West Coast for the GTG+Legends (parking corral only) and will have a vacation/drive home to Maryland afterward.

I have been speaking to Kyle regarding next year regarding the t-shirts and jackets that we will create for Monterey 2020.

I have found a base jacket to start with online here

a women's version also available

This jacket is available in black or dark blue and in 6 sizes: small, medium, large, x-large, xx-large, and xxx-large

I purchased a sample jacket and it is on the way to Kyle for him to take to the embroidery people to see if there is any issue using this jacket, but I believe this to be a formality.

See attached images of jacket

Artwork discussed has been for a theme of 500E500 on the back to celebrate 30 years of the model. The event name Legends of the Autobahn 2020 will also be incorporated as well.

Here is the jacket we did is 2015

Jackets can be personalized with your first and last name if desired.

The cost I have estimated at $160.00 each with jackets to be mailed by USPS Priority mail as soon as the order is completed which I estimate to be the first week of March.

If you are interested please contact me via DM or response to the thread. Jackets will need to be prepaid, no exceptions, Paypal preferred. If you have any questions please ask.

I will update this thread with preliminary art work asap. T shirt artwork and costs to posted as soon as possible. We might mock up baseball caps and coffee mugs as well. Suggestions are welcome.

Definitely going to file a trip to MCW in the back of my mind as a birthday present to myself, in the meantime, all look good!

Shirts 1 & 2 are cool.

Shirt 3, not crazy that the front logo covers "2020", and the rear doesn't have a graphic of the car. I do like the 'proper' early trunk badge on the back of shirt 3 though. Might be neat to have that logo larger and more prominent, centered below the graphic, on shirt 1?

Also like that one shirt is aimed at Legends, and a different shirt is aimed at the forum. (y)

What, nobody getting on the "MMXX" bandwagon? :jono:

:3gears:

As always, lodging is the most difficult detail about Monterey/Pebble Beach that week. Great option that is as affordable as any is Asilomar Conference Center on the Monterey Peninsula. I just checked availability and there are rooms available from, say check in Aug 11 or 12 but have to check out Sat Aug 15. There are no rooms available for Sat night. Rates are around $260/night. That is not bad at all for Monterey that week that close to the action. As Jono says, we won't make it, but for you lucky souls attending, Asilomar is a good option for The Legends show on Friday Aug 14. Just a PSA.

Saw a post on BimmerLife today that Legends 2020 is canceled. I guess that's not a surprise, but still, disappointed.
If true it’s especially sad, because the 500E was supposed to be the featured car due to its 30th anniversary.......🤬 that virus!!

Guess it’s time to cancel my hotel reservation

Agreed!

I would even consider getting together with @Jlaa in hazmat suits on a victory!
Totally. We need to protect our precious NorCal-selves, who have very much flattened the curve, from the hordes of infected non-flatteners, i.e. Krapping-on-Kalifornia-People, a/k/a @gerryvz.

🤣😷😷😷😷😷😷

I was seriously considering attending especially after watching the CCC episodes about the Monterey week .. this could not have happened at a worst time : (

I was seeing a bunch of online ads for RM Sotheby's online "Monterey" auction. Deadline for consignment was 17JUL. They extended it to today 31JUL.

Currently showing only 48 lots. Last year's auction had 189.

It appears there is are two Legends of the Autobahn this year (2021), on the east and west coast. I was just trying to plan my summer and found:
