Hey everyone, I'm back here
Picked up 1995 e420 last weekend from Ohio. Not perfect but made it home safe, so now I'll have to start fix it up so I can drive it in summer time
It's weird though my VIN datacard coming up as Sapphire Black, but car is actually midnight blue, dark blue
if anyone can check on this?
VIN: WDBEA34E6SC262082

There is also couple issues like check engine light, code 17?
gonna need harness: lower upper, throttle body, all of them actually, if somebody have for sale ill grab them
power steering reservoir have a leak, looks like its a small rubber hose for return???
and one tricky issue is when it's cold it runs fine full power, when fully warms up it looses power, probably running rich. I've already replaced oxygen sensor since it was still original.
Transmission shifts harsh, every gear, I replaced fluid, filter and gasket yesterday but no change
I would appreciate any input.

Datacard in EPC and LastVIN both confirm 009 Sapphire Black:

Sapphire Black looks very similar to Midnight Blue. Is the paint metallic or non-metallic? Can you post a photo of the stamped metal tag next to the hood latch?

Harsh shifting is a vacuum issue... disconnected vac line from manifold to transmission, or bad modulator at the trans, or low intake vacuum.

If the ETA is original get a rebuilt unit from Don Roden. You can't just replace the pigtail. Buy a new upper harness if needed, buy the Kurth repair kit for the lower harness since new ones are NLA. Search the forum for info on the PS leaks.

Just googled sapphire black, yep its exactly what i have

my main question would be running rich when hot, i saw on alldata people suggest its EGL module, but as far as i know these have EZL module right?

There is no such thing as "EGL" on these cars. Don't trust anything you are told by "alldata people". EZL is the ignition module. LH is the fuel injection module.

Assuming the CEL is off, you need to start by pulling fault codes from all modules. If you don't yet have a hand-held blink code reader, you need to buy or make one. Better yet you need the full Star Diagnostics with HHT-Win to view live data but that will set you back ~$500 or so. Cheaper than paying the dealer.

BTW, your car is a "Special Edition". May have stainless steel door sill plates too. 009 paint and 6-hole wheels were the SE goodies along with the sill plates.

Plates that says Mercedes? Yeah I have them, car is ASR and my check engine is on

Does your new car have ASR?
I have various parts, possibly an ETA. I'm a bit jealous. I'd like to find an 034 in that color.
Yes it does
Please check what you have and send me PM please
It was a while since I was checking forum🙂

I saw this one for sale and was tempted by it for the color + solid options. No direct need for it on my end, but good buy! There was mention of some level of front door damage in the listing - did they resolve that?

How many miles? It was super low in 2015.

I want to say it was hovering just over 100k, but it is a faint memory now weeks later. Looked to be in really good overall condition. If memory serves it also had a trailer hitch installed.

No trailer hitch but yeah car was repainted
Right now just hit 127k miles overall good and yeah it has like 25-7k miles in 2015 and never saw snow
I’m going to keep it for a while if possible, just need to store it for winter

Hmm, strange, the hitch was on there last time I saw it on Craigslist. I also had already looked up that same VIN on lastvin before.

When I installed my hitch on an old 400E, there was need to drill holes into the chassis. I'd recommend lifting up the carpet in the trunk and see if you can see any of the holes there. Should be around the spare tire area + battery area. 2 bolts/holes on both sides. Hopefully they sealed them up if they removed the hitch off of the car.

How exactly do you know if it’s a special edition? Bc I do remember on time lookin up my vin numbers on a site and it said special edition but maybe it was labeled wrong

1995 E420's had a SE package with stainless door plates, and the unusual 6-hole 15-inch wheels seen on this car. I forget if there was anything else. Really doesn't offer anything "special", it was a marketing ploy to unload the last cars before the newfangled round-headlight W210 was released. Also, 009 Sapphire Black paint was only offered on SE cars, AFAIK. There's no option code in the datacard indicating SE.
