There's a new book being released on the history of AMG, that folks might be interested in.

It will be available on Tuesday, November 4th. Available from a variety of sources, including Barnes & Noble, Amazon, etc.

Here's the link to pre-order at a discount from list price, via Amazon:

If you are in the UK, you can check Amazon there (or other sources) or go to the publisher at The Quarto Group and search "AMG" in the search box.

Cheers,
Gerry

I am glad to see, in the book's preview at Amazon, some discussion of the role of my friend (and sadly who passed on a number of years ago) Erich Waxenberger in the early history of, and semi-clandestine racing support and cooperation with, Aufrecht and Melcher in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

My new AMG book arrived on Wednesday of this week when I was away. It is really a good book, but is very different from the "AMG 45" book.

I haven't read it yet or really delved into it, but it seems to spend a lot of time into the very early history and early beginnings (cars, racing, etc.) of AMG, which is nice to see. And then it sort of skips over a lot of the cars (which tends to be the focus for the AMG 45 book) and goes right to the modern stuff, including various race cars, the AMG GT, and so forth.

I think it's a valuable addition to any MB enthusiast's library, though. I am really looking forward to reading about the early AMG history and seeing if there is any new information there.

Agreed! Mine arrived in the door yesterday. Interesting stuff and nice pictures. Me specifically being interested in the W124 chassis could find a lot about the Hammer.

Regarding the later 124 E60 M119, however, so far I could only find one single sentence in the whole 224 page book (tucked away somewhere on page 102):

"Also, there are some W124 and C126 models from the early 1990s that may have the M119 four-valve Mercedes engine bored out to 6.0 liters instead of the M117 engines".

That's it, plus only one (well known) factory photo of a stock E500 Limited, not even production # guestimates, a bit dismal really...
