Does anyone have a spare oil separator part#119-010-00-62.
I ordered one from the dealer and online, they both called me back to let me know the part is NLA.
I have the valve covers off a need that part.

It's in the cylinder head, passenger side rear. A small rubber funnel attaches to this plastic piece. The plastic gets brittle and may break when removed, or when trying to replace the rubber funnel.
That's exactly what happened. I replaced the upper chain rails, and since the valve covers are off. I thought it's best to replace the rubber funnel as well. Removing the old funnel, the plastic on the oil separator broke off. 😒

Hi All

I am in the same situación.
No way I can find this part in Europe. I am trying now to find it overseas with no luck.

If finally there is no way to find it,
¿ is it absolutely necessary to use?
Will the engine have problems in the case this part is not installed?.

Any clue is welcome :)
Thanks

Update on Oil Separator Availability
The oil separator is currently unavailable here in Europe.
I have already contacted several US shops (Pelican, FCP Euro, etc.) and even Asian dealers (Amayama, Partsouq, etc.), but have had no luck so far.
  • I have reached out to Mercedes-Benz USA and am awaiting their response.
  • I also contacted the Mercedes-Benz Classic Center in Germany, where there might be a chance of finding the part. I am waiting for news from them.
Important Advice:
Be extremely careful when removing the passenger-side engine head cover. The plastic soft rubber cone that fits into the little tube on the head cover becomes rock-solid over time and will likely break the oil separator. The good news is that the cone itself is still available. Go buy one! Using a new cone significantly diminishes the risk of breaking the oil separator.

A Note to TerryA and gsxr:
Dear TerryA and gsxr, apologies if I caused any concern. :)
It is not my intention to run the car without the oil separator; I am just trying to gather information in case the part is permanently unavailable. My M119 is my favorite engine. The local Mercedes dealer simply did not provide any options, recommendations, or alternatives.

Best Regards,
Manuel.

Manuel,

I wasn't able to locate the part, I searched everywhere. Some websites list the part for sale, but once you place the order, they will send you an e-mail to let you know the part is no longer available. My local dealer tried to order one and they called me back to let me know that they can't get the part, even from Germany.
Sorry

This looks like a part that could be easily duplicated on a 3D-Printer by someone who has the talent and the printer.

I bought a new funnel already in anticipation of changing when I install my aluminum lifter tubes. If I had realized this part was also required I would have ordered it also. I would be one the first to buy if it ever becomes available BUT NOT for €5K or $$$.

It's already ordered and will arrive in a few days.
To be honest,I even spent a while thinking if, given the circumstances, it wouldn't be better to just buy a 3D printer and learn something new :jelmerian4:

Thank you all.
Manuel
Did you receive the oil separator from the guy in Germany? I have also order one today from him :)

@Catalin @ABM,
This part is obviously going or GONE NLA. I would hope that one of you would take a picture of the part and post it here for the rest of us. OR even have it 3-D Printed and make a few €€€ or $$$.

Thank You

Hi TerryA,

The part is quite small and it would be a surgeon's job."
Mine was broken but I think I still have the little pieces.
I will send you a photo when I get my hands on the car again.

Some photos to give you an idea of the part.

No filter. No mesh.
Really simple for somebody with a 3d printer.

Great photos! This does look like something that could be reproduced. The trick will be using a suitable material that will handle an oil bath and temps up to ~120°C.

:apl:

@ABM,
Thanks for posting photos. I know there’s got to be someone out there willing to try CD Printing this part. Maybe :stickpoke: @Glen (He needs some Practice).

For now we need to find a proper material that can withstand the harsh environment this part has to live in.

I suspect that in this coming spring when I change to the aluminum oiler tubes and attempt to replace the cone portion (which I have) I will be looking at a problem.

Anyway, With as many M119s still out there, this could be an opportunity for one of our members to produce a batch and make a few $$$ in the process.

Only material that I know that should be fine in the engine would be PPS-CF. Heat resistant to 264 degrees C and resistant to oils, acids, organic solvents, alkail. Rather expensive 107€ for 0.75kg spool.

I would love to give it a try and print this oil separator, but right now my life went 180 degrees upside down. If I sort everything and there is still no reproduction available I will make 3D model of this.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to make plastic 3D printed body and inside tube aluminum turned on the lathe. I think if made this way it would be indestructible.

Yeah, it wouldn’t be too hard to draw that up in CAD. But due to its size, 3D printing it might not be strong enough since the walls are so thin.

I was thinking a hybrid of Aluminium and a high-temperature filament. I probably have time to model it up and study the reproduction aspects. My oil separator is still perfect except for the nipple that goes into the rubber funnel. Now i need to locate a new funnel.

@Glen,
Would it be possible to make it out of aluminum? As soon as it warms up I am planning on changing to the aluminum oiler tubes and I already have the funnel to install along with new upper chain rails. It might be possible to remove the oiler separator to use as a guide.

I’m sure it could be made but I have no idea what it would cost. Also, it would likely need to changed slightly to accommodate machining vs printing or injection molding. Would probably be too expensive.

I saw this earlier today on an SL FB page which reminded me to add an update:

1769618163719.png

I reviewed this a while back and as mentioned in this thread previously, there aren't any obvious 3D print materials that can with stand the expected upper temperature requirement for this part.

At the start of the year, I did place an order with a UK based supplier who claim a 6 to 12 week lead time but I'm really not confident they will be able to supply the part at all...

I will update accordingly.

This weekend I’m planing to design a new oil separator. I’ve got the general design completed and plan to build it completely out of Aluminium. If things go as planned I will machine the tiny part and test it. I’ll keep everyone advised. Cheers.

I don't recall if anyone mentioned it here; on the end of this piece, is there not a "filter screen"? built into the oem piece as suggested here in this video:
start @24:30min mark

Thank you for the video. Very good information. I reviewed it carefully and noted the discussion of a “screen” in the bottom of the separator and the use of a torch to confirm its location. I haven’t found a screen in the photos of the removed oil separators which have been disassembled. I didn’t see a screen in the pieces of the oil separator retrieved from the engine in the video. Based on the information in the video, it prompts me to carefully inspect the complete and in tact oil separator which I removed from my M119 engine. Thank you again for sharing the information. I will let you know what I discover.

Update: I completed the first 3D fit check oil separator part. It fit perfectly. I added a retention feature to it and am printing an updated version tonight. I plan do complete the fit check process on Saturday. If everything meets my requirements, I will begin the machining process, for an actual part, next.

Nice..i really need one.Mine was bakelite and broke like glass. Made a temporary solution that actually worked perfectly for now. But don't like such homemade solutions because they can backfire. My solution...yes it looks like a cheap plastic hose but it's not. It can withstand up to 260 degrees celius

That looks like typical silicon tubing? Please correct me if I am wrong. While silicon tubing has a decent high heat resistance, it's not resistant to motor oil or gas. It will break down very quickly.
Fluorosilicon lined tubing will work but Im not sure what the smallest diameter tubing is available. It's not cheap.

I was more concerned about the colour of the valve covers and what looks like carbonised oil baked onto them.

Are there any updates? I would buy one! :)
The new, replacement oil separator is an assembly made from brass and Aluminium. A fit check/ test article is in queue for the CNC machine. I expect the CNC work will be completed next week with first article inspections, fit check and functional testing completed immediately thereafter. It is designed to be a direct replacement for the original Merc part. I’m keen to complete this, as well, since my personal 500E awaits one. I will send photos when I have the first one in my hand. If everything works as planned, I will figure pricing and then produce an initial run of parts. After the pricing is determined, it would be great to have a rough idea of sales so I could meet that requirement straight away. Thanks for checking.

As i have attached the diagram photo the part listed as 74 i need that

Merged threads on same part.

Hello @Vidma, the part you want is NLA (No Longer Available) from Mercedes. See post #42 above for a possible reproduction part coming soon.

Welcome to the forum!

:welcome4:

Thanks for the response maybe you know if there’s some sites that still have some left over or a alternative

A lot of people have been looking for this part, and so far, nobody has reported finding any old stock. So, we're stuck waiting for a reproduction.
