Hello, everybody

This is my first post here and I'd like to introduce my "new" 1992 500E. I purchased it a couple of months ago and since then I've been working to fix some troubles. The car actually has a lot of small problems but nothing that a little bit of blood, sweat and tears (=money) couldn't fix and make it perfect.

The first job I've done is replacing the non original rims with original ones I purchased in Germany at an incredible good price. I painted them (they had a few small scratches) and fitted new Good Year tyres. It came with 17" AMG replicas painted the same colour of the body but I didn't like them.

I've also replaced both catalytic converters as they were totally empty. The car now sounds and drive better but I think I'll eventually have to replace the muffler too.

Next job is replacing the gearbox mount, flex plates and driveline central bearing.

Hope you like it. I promise better pictures as soon as possible.

Greetings from Spain.

P.S. Sorry about my english.

Re: New Owner - 500ESpain

Hola amigo, bienvenidos !

Beautiful car, I think there are very few wheels that look better than the standard 16" 8 holes; good choice.

Re: New Owner - 500ESpain

Nice and clean ride, looks great! Welcome aboard and how many miles does the car have?

Re: New Owner - 500ESpain

Thank you, everybody!

The odometer shows 105.000Kms (about 60.000 miles) but I reckon that it must have at least twice of that.

Even if it does, 120K on the engine is nothing. Ever since I got my 500E and poked around beforehand about the M119 5.0 engine?s reliability ? the consensus form everybody was the best made and long lasting engine.

The only side affect I have found since ownership, is the lead foot syndrome that has taken root?which I now welcome as my medical condition which has no cure?unless you get E60 AMG. :cheers3:

Welcome to the board. I was just in Barcelona a couple of weeks ago. Love it there !!

:welcome:

Cheers,
Gerry

very nice!
Good choice with the wheels.

I go to Barcelona tomorrow. I hear nice things about Spain - the women are even better than the cars.

Hi,

Here's a picture I took this morning at my "office".

That gray aircraft on the back is Michael Schumacher's plane (registration M-KEL and his signature on the stabilizer).

Welcome to the board! I am fairly new here as well. Your 500 looks to be in great condition!

I LOVE that instrument cluster you have!! Would you might be willing to sell it one day? I give you mine in return :)

Enjoy your stay!

Thanks for the welcome and if I ever decide to sell it, you're the first on my list.

Hi,

I've been doing some interior work:

- New antenna switch. Not period correct but I hate having the antenna out when I'm not listening to the radio. Thanks Gerry for providing the wiring diagram.
- New central locking switch. Lighting works but it's still non functional until I figure out how to wire it to the keyless system.
- Auto-dimming mirror. Thanks Rik!
- Missing passenger airbag installed. No more pyrotechnic stuff underneath the passengers feet.

Pleasure to watch, plenty of switches and wonderful wooden trim. Compliments.

I see one space left, just begging for an "ASR Off" switch!

:D :D

Thank you guys!

About the ASR switch, that was my original plan, but I'm I coward when it comes to cut wires related to vital systems of the car. I've seen the tutorials several times and it doesn't look like a complicated job but... I even have the switch and it talks to me "come on, you pussy, do it, you know you want it, cool people have ASR Off switches, aren't you cool??..." I don't know, maybe someday I'll become a real man with balls enough to do it.

Thanks again:cheers1:

Great upgrades, Esteban. :-)

Is the wiring diagram for the antenna switch something you can share here on the board?

Cheers

This uncool drift is the reason why now I want an ASR defeat switch:

It was impossible to accelerate the way out!

In my defence I must say that it was faster than it looks and the track was incredibly slippery.

Cheers

That's very uncool, indeed ;) Before going on the track, simply yank the front-right ABS wire and you're done :)

Defeating the ASR with the open differential won't be much fun on the track. If you're planning on track use with ASR off, plan on a Quaife install as well.

:spend:

Having your dashboard lit up like a Christmas Tree (disconnecting the ABS/ASR wheel sensor) definitely WILL NOT get you laid. The chicks will think there's something wrong with your car !!

So true. When they see the Brabus Tempamatic red light on the dash, instead of taking their clothes off they all ask: "what's that red light? Is something wrong with the car?":banger:

..you should rather tell the chicks that the red light is the "love" signal... ;-)

You are so "out of it"! Check all the newer cars - the more lights (inside or out) the better! Especially if they are bright yellow or red, it seems.

Hi,

Here there are a couple of pictures of the car with new shoes, EVOs with Good Year Efficient Grip (245/45 17 99Y)

I know it's nothing special, just another 199/271 '92 but after all the problems I had with the car and all the money spent on non sexy parts, finally I'm happy to be able to invest some on proper chick magnetism.

Hope you like it

Esteban, why so humble, *nothing special* as I can see, a 100% Mercedes 500E OEM all over. I think more and more will go down that Route
i.e. originality MB all over. Nice... Roger

Thanks guys for the nice comments.

I'm humble because this site humbles me. There are many amazing cars here and incredible amounts of knowledge. Everything I know about the car comes from this forum. Ownership of the car would have been imposible without the board.

I really love that period telephone. I just wish I could make it work or at least make it light up (if I want to get laid).

What a beautiful car ! The background of euro style building and those euro zippy cars make 500E looks especially gorgeous. Honestly I like E500E pics made in Euro zone, for some reason 500E looks best over there, probably because it is an Euro car.

Evo II are just perfect ! I got the same phone set and unfortunately can't make it work . I was thinking to replace the inside part with some GSM vintage nokia ....

More pics will be nice

Esteban, with all of your hard work on getting your car right and working correctly, I think you have the exclusive right to hog everyone else's E500E chick magnetism for a day or two, so good luck with that and I hope it serves you well. 'Ron500E Jeremy' can give you some tips on how to best utilize your new-found extra-strong chick magnetism & karma.

Good luck...and good work!

More pics, please!

Cheers,
Gerry

Thanks, Roma, you are right, they look at home with the old european buildings behind. And with the Jag, the Seat and the Daewoo/"Chevrolet" ;-)

Thank you too, Gerry but I don't know, so much chick magnetism is a lot of power, maybe I'm not ready to handle that responsability. I will give it a try anyway. I can always send the girls back home.

Roger, it's around 1800 kms from Madrid. I'd really like to make it but still don't know how my work schedule is gonna be for those days. I will do my best.

Thanks again, guys!

Let me get enough spanish chicks with the new rims and then we'll organize Roma's euro trip and I'll share them with you guys ;-)
