Long-time lurker and lifelong fan of these cars. Truth be told, this acquisition is the culmination of a childhood dream. My first car was a hand-me-down 1986 300E and my (early) childhood dream car was the W124 AMG Hammer, until the 500E came along with its sexy widebody fenders and Porsche pedigree. The only thing I could imagine being sweeter was a 6.0 conversion.

I actually came up on two 036's recently. The first one being a black pearl that I managed to trade a 71' El Camino for (long story). However, the real love is the silver one with Renntech conversion that I found shortly after. The black pearl will be up for sale shortly after I get a coupe items on it ironed out for the next owner.

I purchased the Renntech car directly from Renntech as it was on consignment from one of their long-time customers.
1-owner 133k miles. Miles seemed high but its obvious the owner was very caring with it as the condition is lightyears ahead of the black pearl one, despite similar mileage.

Needless to say, I am excited to be this vehicle's caretaker for as long as I can be.

CarLover,

Welcome Aboard. Looks like you got Da Bomb!!

Hope to see more pics and hear more about your RennTech.

All I got was the RennTech back box.

:runexe:

Welcome to the six-liter club! As I'm sure you already know, bigger is better. :D :D

Plan on replacing the rear tyres with alarming frequency...

:3gears: :e500launch:

Beautiful car [emoji106] congrats and enjoy it/drive it.
Are you going to replace the lenses to Euro?
Are the springs different than stock for Renntech?

Are the springs different than stock for Renntech?
Eno, every RENNtech build was custom per customer request. I don't see anything in the build sheet to indicate different springs, so most likely this particular car has stock springs. It should have the RENNtech 32mm front sway bar, and the "rear subframe" mods are probably just adjustable aluminum links with Heim joints which I'm not a fan of. Ditto for the KONI dampers.

I've owned several different RENNtech 6.0 cars and most had the KONI's along with Heim joint rear links, and I've either reverted them back to stock already, or plan to soon. But, that's a topic for a separate thread if any wants further discussion on the joys of suspension mods!

:jono:

Welcome!!! I'm also jealous of the 3.0CSL ---- and the rear subframe modifications on the 500E --- I'm intrigued!

Thanks, guys!
I have no clue what the rear subframe mods are, but I'm new to the 036 game. As with any older vehicle it will have to get some bugs worked out and I also want to give it a personal, yet "period-correct", touch to make it my own. I plan send it soon to a friend of mine in AZ who owns a shop specializing in Porsches and exotics. He formerly owned a 500E and is the type to learn everything about his vehicles so I figure it's a good idea for him go through everything.

That E9 is definitely special to us. It's a '72 with a fuel injected M30/5-speed swap from an '89 535i. I'm far from a purist so I put my personal touch on it as you can probably see. Same goes for the full-build pro-touring '71 Nova (LS3/6-speed, etc) peeking behind as well not to mention all my other toys that have been modded to various degrees. Obviously a stock 500E would never do. :agree:

Here's a pic of the black pearl 500E. It would have been fun to build it up but there's no way I could make it come close to what this Renntech has without spending a fortune. Waiting on a fuel pump and some steering bits to get it up to par for the next owner to fly in and drive it home.

Please, let me know how 1st gear start works on your car.
Does it downshift ever from 2nd to 1st? Or only at crawling speeds?

Small or large cam motor?
The 402hp spec listed on the build sheet matches the Stage 2 motor of the 1996-1998 timeframe with "performance camshafts" and stock exhaust manifolds.

My guess is that it's likely the 10mm cams. I don't know if the 11mm cams were used on engines without headers. Wouldn't be able to tell without popping a valve cover and measuring cam lobes.

:strawberry:

Until it's time to do oil tubes or replace v/c gaskets- we'll never know. From my limited knowledge base, I haven't seen the 11 mm cams in a W124/R129. They seem to be in W210's.

Good easy thing to measure. Great cars..

I've seen the 11mm cams in a W124. My two W210's had 11mm intake, 10mm exhaust.
