Hi - as a new member on this board just wanted to briefly introduce myself here before posting in any of the other forums on this great site. I have already read a lot of useful stuff over here before buying, and really look forward to enjoying the 'new-to-me' E500 in your virtual company.

I'm German, so from the home country of this masterpiece - yet have been living in Dubai for the past 7 years. The E500 I bought is a 1995 Limited, imported to Dubai from Japan - so the car has already toured the globe and will eventually go back with me to the "Motherland" once we move back.

It's in a good condition overall, with a mileage of only 138,000km (roughly 85,000 miles) and is fully original (although some parts say "AMG" and I am not convinced this is how it came from the factory or whether these are genuine AMG or Japanese after-market - like the exhaust, front brakes, white speedo, etc.).

Two pictures are enclosed, these were still taken from the previous owner. I will surely contribute to this board over the coming weeks as I'll fix some of the smaller glitches and provide some TLC to the car.

Best,
Jan

Hei Jan - welcome to the board! :welcome3:

Your Limited looks great, and we rarely have '95 models presented here, it would be great if you could document with the VIN.

I'm sure you find out about those AMG badges/logos. :-)

More "urops" on the board is fine!
:arnt:

Cheers

Welcome Jan !!!
Looks like an 040 with Evo's !!! Wow!

Kind Regards,

Ron

Ron - that's one of the original colours for the Limited, 009 Sapphire Black. (The other one is 744 brilliant silver)

It looks like it also has the correct EVO II for the Limited in diamond cut finish. :-)

Arnt, Ron - thanks for the warm welcome. It is indeed the 009 Sapphire Black color code with Evo wheels. These are almost unmarked, barely a scratch - so I have yet to find out if they are the genuine / original Mercedes ones, or after-market (their condition is almost too good to be that old...).

It is almost certainly one of the last E500 built - the VIN is WDB1240361C214259 and the engine number 119974 12 010423. Since only just under 10,500 of the E500 were built in total, and the M119.974 engine number was only given to them, mine with engine 10,423 should be one of the last - confirming the 1995 model year I assume.

Anyway, any 500E / E500 it is just a really really nice car!

Your car is a very late build, but not the last. I'm not sure what the last chassis number is, but the latest I've heard of is:

WDB1240361C246412 = engine 10,643

Other late VIN's:

WDB1240361C198916 = engine 10,339 (Limited)
WDB1240361C206733 = engine 10,460 (Limited - Russia/Japan)
WDB1240361C208913 = engine 10,494 (Limited - UK, converted to 6.0L)
WDB1240361C209598 = engine 10,502 (Limited - Japan car)
WDB1240361C212018 = engine 10,546 (Limited - Dubai car)
WDB1240361C214259 = engine 10,423 (Limited - Jan77's car)
WDB1240361C224804 = engine 10,563 (not Limited)
WDB1240361C235719 = engine 10,599 (not Limited - Brabus car)
WDB1240361C235921 = engine 10,596 (not Limited)
WDB1240361C238465 = engine 10,613 (E60 AMG, not Limited)
WDB1240361C246412 = engine 10,643 (not Limited)

:welcome3:

What I have heard a few times now is that after the 500 total cars with the "Limited" specs were built, Mercedes built another batch of around 120 E500 as the very last cars to fulfill remaining customer orders (not Limited). This seems to be consistent with your small registry above, as interestingly you can add 120 to my engine number to arrive at the engine number of the last car you list. So (although I really do not care) mine might be one of the later Limited versions.

Nice late VIN list there GSXR ... where the heck did you get all that detailed, good information from anyhow?

Indeed, Jan77's car would be the latest confirmed LIMITED VIN number that I have in my database. I'd bet it was among the very last Limiteds made.

There were 120 E500s made as a final batch and I would consider these to be "1995" models. In fact, I had personally updated the Wikipedia table on these cars to reflect these 120 additional cars about two years ago (link is here).

It has also been reflected in our Wiki on this site.

Outside of raw EPC data, I now have detailed owner/photo/description data on 35 E500 Limited cars out of the 500 produced. Not bad.

Cheers,
Gerry

P.S. Jan77 -- welcome to the site and look forward to more photos and documentation of your car !!

I have around 60, It would be great if we could share the info to update the list.

Beautiful car one of my favourite combo for 036. It looks like you got a Silver Arrow brakes ?

I will need to get more clarity about the brakes...they are definitely larger than stock, the caliper is painted silver and has an AMG badge. Whether or not these are in fact AMG brakes remains to be seen...

Jan,

Welcome Aboard.

GREAT LOOKING CAR !!!

We look forward to more photos and having more details on your new ride.

At EPC i have found only one Limited with a higher chassis number as your car. Congrats, you are very near by the end. Here are the last 10 Limiteds:

WDB1240361C214264

WDB1240361C214259

WDB1240361C214256

WDB1240361C214239

WDB1240361C214029

WDB1240361C214027

WDB1240361C214025

WDB1240361C214023

WDB1240361C213789

WDB1240361C213786

And then there are 941 other E 500 with code 958. Maybe MB had a Problem with counting your 500 special models. Or EPC is full of bugs. But this could be a new entry in the wiki.

I think Roma may have nailed it, they appear to be Silver Arrow calipers. A better photo would help confirm. They are not likely not AMG, but they are made by Brembo.

Even if they are AMG (came off C32 or C55 ) they will be made by brembo with very similar design as the SA. However, I m pretty sure it is SA kit with the AMG sticker. You can measure rotor size , if it is 334mm then it is SA if larger than that then it is off the AMG vehicle.

Japanese guys love so much to put AMG decals/stickers/badges everywhere on every car even if the car has nothing to do with the AMG at all.

This coming from a guy with AMG wheels on his car. :omg:

Just messing with you...:cool:

"from a guy with AMG wheels on his car" , note that the authentic/genuine beautiful 5 spoke staggered AMG wheels :cool::cool: :cheers1:

I was talking about cars that have nothing to do with the AMG (meaning even no AMG wheels), so I m good with my AMG badge :cool:

Shall we let it slide ???

I have non AMG 3 pc wheels that look like AMG wheels, does that count ?

Great - from brakes to breasts in just a few posts! I'm starting to enjoy this forum even more :p

Will definitely take a closer look at the brakes and post better pictures here so that we can resolve...the Japanese must love AMG, aside from the stickers on the brakes, the car has an "Affalterbach Special Edition" badge with logo on the center console (just behind the gear shift lever) as well as a sticker with the signature of HWA on the ash tray...both of course directly taped onto the wood! :o I will do my best to remove these as well as any other fake stuff from the car.

You may know it already, but I recommend using a heater gun at low setting to soften the glue just a bit prior to start peeling off the stickers, then you avoid scratches from any sharp tools etc... A hair drier can also be used.

Just my 2 cents.. :-)

The more I see 009 the more I like it. What an awesome color!

009 is the only black I could live with. I've owned all three (199, 040, and 009). The 009 is almost closer to a super dark, metallic, midnight blue. Real shame that 009 was never offered on any USA-spec 036's (but there are some 034's and 032's around the USA in 009).

:apl:

I actually did not get why the E500 Limited was not offer to the US market ? It is really weird ... Anybody knows what were reasons ?

I read somewhere that originally the full batch of "Limited" models was for the Swiss market only - cars found their ways through mostly Stuttgart-based German dealers to all kind of countries though (domestic German market, Japan, etc.). So none of the Limited were US spec and hence not offered in the US.
Even the Limited I bought (import from Japan) was originally delivered to a Stuttgart dealer (code 229 in the production order number).

The datasheet on my Limited shows 571 for Switzerland in the Auftragsnummer (0 4 571 52168).
The Produktionswerk is 0500 Sindelfingen, but I don't know what that actually means?

"Produktionswerk" translates into "manufacturing plant" in English and Sindelfingen is the main factory for Mercedes in Stuttgart.

Welcome to the forum Jan! Nice limited you got there.
Btw. I'm also from Germany and living about the same time as you in the middle east, Kuwait actually... But have my car in germany.
