Hi there everyone,

Another 500 owner from Poland - just found out bout this forum so got registered. I'm driving '92 W124 500E lifted up to E class model - I've bought it this way so for the moment it stays lifted... After purchase I've change a lot of parts life engine wiring, airflow sensor, complete exhaust system 2x2,5' with the Magnaflow muffler, wheels (change every 3 moths - looking 4 the best one to fit), lowered it with the Bilstein B6 set and H&R springs - gave me -45mm front and -50 mm back with the nivo setup. The engine got the Brabus modified chip and the effect is 380 HP at the dyno and about 560 Nm torque. After 2 weekes I also changed break discs for the Zimmermanns and the break pads for EBC Green Stuff. I've also renovated front lamps, back are red fifts for the moment, front grill as the avangarde one (now change to avangarde custom from W140). As for interior some parts got leather finish and the roof is with the black alcantara. At the moment the car is at the body paint shop (stays 744 with the VIN). Got some pics after buying in 2010:

2011 after part body paint ando some details at 18" Lorinser RS1 8,5 front and 9,0 back (et30)

2012 set up with BBS LM repics 19x8,5 front and 19x9,5 back (ET35)

for the moment I've got Tramont Satrun 20x8,5 fornt and 20x9,5 rear wheels and they'll be finished in full polish till next season.

Here are some vids with the car and how it sounds with the Magnaflow exhaust system.

Dzien Dobry Kamil:

Hello and WELCOME.

I'm trying to set up a "Polish-American 036 Meeting" between mid December and Mid January in or near Warszawa, I'm American but my wife, "Asia the Most Patient", is from Warszawa and we'll be there visiting her mother.

Where are you from?

Kind Regards,

Ron

Dzien Dobry Ron500E

I'm from Szczecin so its about 500 km from Warsaw - during winter time my 500 stays in warm garage but its not a problem to meet in Warsaw :) I do drive a lot across Poland so maybe i can catch up with you guys

BR

Kamil

Welcome! Very cool car. Am I seeing correctly that your car does not have a sunroof?

Long time no see :) my 500e changed a bit since last visit - new paintjob, classic AMG wheels from w210 e55, upper and back strut (my best mod ever - car runs better in corners)

Hello Kamil

first of all very nice car but I can't believe that the brabus chip increase the power and torque that much. It's the first time I hear about that. Do you or somebody can give me a serious reading source because I didn't find any details about such chip?

Greetings Sebastian

You can't chip a 5.0 to 380hp. That power is about normal for a 6.0 motor. One possibility for the discrepancy would be 'optimistic' conversions of dyno rear-wheel power to estimated crankshaft power. A more accurate number to post would be the rear-wheel power number, which is usually in the 250-280hp range for most 5.0L engines, depending on the type of dyno used.

:grouphug:

Chip is BASED on Brabus Chip - remaped and adjusted for the condition of my car. Its not just the chip - exhaust is also modofied, same as air intake - the last dyno run done bout 2 years ago showed 378 hp and torque aborund 560Nm. I think that guys who done this didnt care about the engine condition but just bout power. After changing engine wiring Ive returned to stock settings (took out tuned eprom, exhaust and air intake still custom) and dyno run few months ago showed 349 hp and around 510Nm - Ill try to find the dyno run diagrams and scan them for you. On the next dyno run Ill put the modded eprom and also run it to prove the difference.

The car on the modified eprom did 1/4 mile in 13,7-13,8 secs (best 13,842) now its 14,0-14,1 - stock does around 14,5

In the first post there a movies where you can see that 500e wins against faster cars so there is something in it...

Ive also modified the gearbox by changing the preasure settings (dont know howmto write it in english, hope you knowmwhat I mean) so the gearbox shifts a bit faster.

I hate to burst your bubble, but Brabus does not have a chip that can be modified to yield that much HP and Torque in the 036, physically impossible for just one chip. Even with a better exhaust, air intake and the modified chip, those numbers quite high. :apl:

Maybe if you had access to Brabus's ECU software, but even then, their software has more to offer for newer Mercedes cars then older ones when it comes to optimum power gains and now much can actually be gained – that is a proven fact.

If the 1/4 mile numbers you posted are correct in 13,7-13,8 secs with the eprom, better exhaust and air intake...then something is not quite right, you should be faster than that. My 13.9 seconds 1/4 mile time also with a better exhaust and a true ECU remap using Brabus software, along with more weight added to the car and wider tires and your best time is only 13.7?

I got a simple test, get a camera facing your dashboard and let us see how fast you can hit 0-100km/h, which will show what you got under the hood.

Would need GPS confirmation of the speedometer reading, especially at higher speeds. W124 electronic speedos are notoriously "optimistic" in the top half of their range.

:grouphug:

Yeah and a court translator recording with the camera... Its all bout how fast it accelerates but ok - next time ill bring a gps speed confirmation while recording or ill just make some pcs of both. The highest speed on GPS ive ever go with this car is 274 km/h, might go bit faster, up to 280km/h but there was quite traffic on hway. I dont like high speeds like that but love accelerating to 200km/h, in 99% it enogh formthe other car

bwuh? You drove 274km/h on a car that's, because of the RPM limit and gearbox, limited to 260km/h (on the speedo, not GPS)?

A modified chip can remove the ~250kph top speed limiter. However, the 500E is gearing limited to approx 165mph / 265kph with stock 2.82 gears, with stock tire diameter. To get past that point something needs to change.

Rumor is the 5.0 motor runs out of power around 170mph / 270kph even with appropriate gearing & tires.

:roadrunner:

Maybe thats just a rumor - gps is also not so accuarte with those 2-4 km/h, same as speedo... I dont really care bot those numbers, the best part starts when sport cars, other amg's or m's stay behind when you push the gas. On the movie you can see that the car is faster then stock and its easy to see. My eprom also makes the car always start with the 1st gear. On the other eprom Ive also changed the shifting point from 6k rpM to 6,5k rpm

I was wondering if changing differential for the on from 400e/e420 would give higher speed? People say that stock 400 has higher max speed then the 500 because of the gearbox and diff. Frend of mine has a 400e also moddified and its faster then the stock 500e - both acceleration and v max

I think you should come visit me, then we go to Germany together, and we'll race (and record it). If all goes well, I'll eat your dust, and everyone will be convinced!

When will you come? :D

Easy to say hard to do :) two yeras ago there was a reason to go to NL - now all coffies are selling only to NL guys :) sometimes I do visit other countries like few years ago Berlin and 125th MB aniversary but as far as I know there is nothing coming by :( but If you ever visit PL or Berlin (150kms from my place) give me a hint - Im ready to race :)

BTW: Aint hunger convincing anyone - driving it gives me pleasure and nothin will change it :P

Looks good .... Are those RH wheels ? What are the sizes and off sets ?

The exhaust sounds good, very deep and louder than stock. What did you do ?

Thx

'Bout the wheels - those are RH's AB Topline but custom build - rotor is now beetwen the lip and the main piece, dimms are 10,5x18 front and 12x18 rear with the offset about ET30 front and ET20 in the rear, 235/40 and 275/35

Exhaust is now simple 2,5 inch pipe starting from the engine till rear fender, no mufflers at all - goin' to rebuild it soon, do the x-pipe and so on

Indeed this is how a 500E should look.So with such wide tyres how is the driving feel?Is turning/cornering compromised? How about acceleration?Your car looks good sir!!
