Can anyone chime in please as to what's the most I should offer on the calipers listed on ebay. I really do want to perform the upgrade and don't want to shop around until another set becomes available in 2 weeks or 2 months... The auction ends today, I bid $650 which had been the buy now price, but 4 others (and perhaps even more later today) have also jumped in to place bids on them. Your suggestions are welcomed as always and thanks.

They were meant for my car, I guess and thank you for the link. They're going straight to become powder coated in red! Now tomorrow, I have to hunt down the remaining parts for the conversion and I'm sure I'll be asking for help here!
10) I need alternatives to the antenna because I am old fashioned and listen to the radio every day on my work commute which is 45 mins. each way. I already have an incredibly loud and obnoxiously good stereo system in it, so I'll leave that alone. But, since I am retouching the front spoiler and a couple of other areas, this would be the time for me to have the whole filled out where the Hirschmnann original antenna goes. When I bought the car, I purchased a "hidden" antenna and it was a fiasco. I agree that the shark fin might be too modern for the car, but open to suggestions for an antenna since I am so frustrated with what's happened to all of them recently!
Keep and eye out on a crashed SLK55 (I know its very hard to come by them) but my buddy did and scored big time the whole set up cost him $1500 and its well worth it

The cost is much higher than the Silver Arrow, 2 times at least, depending on whether the parts are new or secondhand. I am going for 360mm fronts and they are VERY RARE to find used. However, I like to have the front brake discs new anyway due to safety reasons (..not from a crashed car).
Ciao

You can pay over $2k for the SLK front brakes that require cutting/cobbling, or spend the same amount for the StopTech kit that is a true bolt-on, AND engineered to work specifically with the 500E. Again... I'm just not seeing the attraction to the AMG stuff. :?:... while you may be able to find the SLK calipers cheaper, the cost of the SLK rotors (approx $1500/pair list, ~$1000/pair from parts.com) eliminates any savings. And you need to cut the steering arm, and mill off a section of the caliper, and use a custom brake hose with banjo bolt, all of which is contrary to the definition of "bolt on"...

Maybe the SA calipers are just better than the SLK calipers, hence the higher price? It seems that the SA brake kit was a higher end brake kit and maybe the SLK kit is just not higher end?
Plus, it seems that the SA kit was made for higher end cars.
I do not think so , most likely production/development expenditure cost was lower due to fact that the 6 pot caliper body itself is used on most of the 55/63/65/600biturbo cars with the different brackets. While SA was made specially for SL R129 , body is almost the same with other cars (S600 W220 , C32/C55 W203 etc, but the back part of the caliper is different which much more expensive to producedevelop than the small adapter bracket which is utilized on newer AMG today. )
However, this is my guess ...
I m waiting for rotors now and then I will figure out if SA is good or not (if snow do not hit MN soon )
That's correct Roman, the production volumes do probably dictate the pricing on SA vs AMG. The AMG calipers are all made by Brembo and the same platform/design are used on a number of car types! I have now 3 sets of "AMG-calipers" (1 front, 2 rear) + I've had 8-pot fronts in house, and none of them has a MB or AMG part number stamped, they all have the Brembo PN only.
You can see identical Brembo caliper set-up between a number of sportscars, including high end cars. The calipers can be identical but with specific brackets, and the different brands have their own concept on brake pumps, pad compound and discs, which can result in noticable different brake power from car to car - which is discussed in test reports in car magazines too.
Except from the SA brakes, the only complete bolt-on brake upgrade I have seen for the 036 to date is MOVIT. Everything else besides those two brands requires custom work and brackets. Enclosed some pics I got from Bernard in Germany at the time I was in contact with MOVIT.

As indicated, I went ahead with the SA upgrade. I paid $560 for the calipers on the very same link posted above, $45 for Bosch brake pads from AutohausAZ, and then the 2 control arms at $355.68 each for OEM as well as the 4 rotors (340mm334mm up from and 300mm out back) at $95 also each from bmwmercedespats.com, thus totaling from them $1,038.35. But overall and counting, is $1,643.35. I also bought 2 sets of Brembo decals from Ebay totaling $8.00 since I am going to powder coat the calipers from black to red. But, based on everyone else's reactions to the upgrade, I am sure to be pleased with the result.

Lemforder only makes the early LCAs. They do not make the late LCA's which are required for the Silver Arrow brake upgrade.wow Otto that is a lot of money for control arms I can get you Lemforder which are OEM for half of that

It's stamped on the outer edge by the ball joint, should be facing down... as seen in the photo below. My wife's 1995 wagon has a new pair of MB OE late LCAs, installed about 3 years ago now. I can check this out over the weekend to see if I can find TRW logos on them (or another logo). Where is the logo located? Would I be able to find it with the LCAs on the car?
It seems we got three or more people including myself currently getting a SA kit
I saw your car online somewhere and boy I love your wheels , idk about the brand but they looks really cool and fits car and color of the car![]()
yours is EXACTLY what my wife's wagon has, Vookster. There was no TRW or TRWE moniker.Yep, I have the Mercedes star and the 2049 number stamped on the neck of the TRWE LCA's.
Hello Guest !
We wanted to let you know about a new resource that is now available to all 500Eboard members. This is a comprehensive database of all US-market (and soon to include Canadian-market) 500E and E500 models delivered for the 1992 through 1994 model years.
Data for this resource has been compiled continuously since mid-2003, and much of this information is seeing the light of day for the very first time ever. This new resource will allow you to utilize 500Eboard research and resources to track specific cars, their sale history, documented modifications, and other information that has surfaced over the years.
We are also providing analytics about the cars' production. This means that if you are curious as to how many "Signal Red" cars were produced for the US market with a black interior, specifically in Model Year 1993, you can now easily find this information. You can also find aggregated information -- for example, how many "Black Pearl" cars were imported into the US over the three-year span.
You can always find and enjoy this resource by clicking here (bookmark the site for easy reference!), or by going to the “500Eboard Registry and VIN Database” sub-forum below. You can also find a VIN Database button at the top of your screen, for easy access.
We hope you enjoy this resource. A LOT of blood, sweat and tears over nearly 23 years have gone into its creation.
Cheers,
500Eboard Management
