Well, I couldn't stay away from the car. After I wrecked my 94 E500, I thought I could do without. I even bought a beater 85 500SEC (anybody wanna buy a car?) to try living the 126 experience. But, you can't forget. So, the inevitable happened. I just agreed to buy this car from Bruce Mendel:

Sorry, but I don't have any pics of my own. But I'm just so excited I had to tell anybody I thought might listen!!

Re: Second Time Winner - Mark

Awesome, welcome back! I notice the car is in Bucks County. Are you from the area? I live in Delaware County.

Re: Second Time Winner - Mark

As the cover from Automobile magazine said “Like a Drug” and you as all of us have succumbed too. Welcome back out of rehab. :cheers1:

Good to be back. I lived in Philly for twenty years until late 2008 when I moved to Bodymore, Murdaland (as they say on the Wire) where I still live.

Congrats on the new ride, Mark! "Like a drug", indeed... hard habit to break, eh?

:alky:

Re: Second Time Winner - Mark

Yeah, as I looked around at other cars to replace the misanthropic 500SEC, it dawned on me that I was comparing everything to the E500 I'd had. I don't think anything can take its place but another one, actually. The 036 is such a singular car. Jeez, reading this, I feel like a crazy widow or something.

Re: Second Time Winner - Mark

Well, I can say from owning a nice 560SEC for the past 8 years, as well as my E500 for the past 7 years, that having one of each is the way to go !!

Very different cars, but both great to own and drive in their own ways.

Cheers,
Gerry

Re: Second Time Winner - Mark

I'm guessing that if mine (126) were "nice" and didn't have so many issues and so much rust that I felt like I was driving a Camaro through South Philly or South Jersey, I might find it less misanthropic. But I guess I just prefer seat of the pants driving enough to want that over-engineered ready to pop 036 a lot more than the overly composed boaty 126. Now, if I needed to drive cross country, that might be different.

Re: Second Time Winner - Mark

The 126 is definitely more of a cruiser than the 036. But properly set up, a 126 coupe (despite its weight and heft) can get up and go with the best of them. It's only 1 second slower in the 1/4 mile than a stock 036, and mine is pretty close to even with a stock 036 with the rear end gears that I have in it.

I can't wait until my top-end rebuild is done. Those in the know tell me that my butt dyno is going to go off the scale, with the engine being noticeably (10-15%) snappier and more powerful.

Cheers,
Gerry

Re: Second Time Winner - Mark

Picked up the car in Doylestown, PA today and drove back to Baltimore. Aaaah, what a nice time. I only went over a hundred twice on the 95. That was probably not smart with my temporary paper tag and no proof of insurance with me. Fun anyway. Don't know how I got along without one of these. Hopefully tomorrow I'll have a chance to get out and see what driving with the ASR defeat is like.

Pictures soon.

Re: Second Time Winner - Mark

Sounds great. I was out driving yesterday, I am amazed at how much I like this car. Its still new to me, but so far one of my all time favorite cars out of the 25-30 I have owned. I hit 115mph briefly on the highway with no drama, got there from 75mph in no time flat. WOW!

Re: Second Time Winner - Mark

wow!! a name from the past. i bought a 95.5 Audi S6 from Bruce many years ago. now hoping to add a 500E to the current selection.
