Good afternoon all, I would like to introduce myself and my recently acquired 1992 500E. My name is Harrison Platz and I'm excited to join this community and be an active participant going forward. In reality, I purchased this vehicle from a good friend last fall and I have been a frequent visitor to this site since that time for guidance and information. I remember when I first laid eyes on a 500E at a Starfest gathering about 18 years ago, I knew that I had to set my sights on one going forward...I just needed a drivers license first.

Shortly after I purchased the car it traveled down to Precision Autoworks and my father for some light cosmetic attention. Some of you may have already met him at the east coast E500E get-together. Work prohibited me from making that trip but thankfully my parents, Bob and June Platz were able to attend and enjoy! I look forward to future events, Starfest 2016 anyone? Most of the work completed was due to age, I.E. top of fenders / hood / trunk paint, driver seat wear, plastic lenses, B pillars pulling, window regulator etc... however now that most work is complete it is time to get some pictures online!

Here are a few pictures, starting with one of my father and I. A special thanks to him and the crew at Precision Autoworks!

Re: OWNER - rubadub3 (Harrison)

Welcome! Nice looking 500E. Keep us updated on your work. The name sounds familiar but I don't know where from. I'm in Atlanta and it looks like you are in NY. Just a few more weeks and you'll be driving large.

Looks great! I love the floor mats. Did you repaint the front clip only or the whole car?

Best Regards,
Chris

Welcome aboard Harrison. I'm sure you will love your 036.
I met your Dad at an MBCA meet in AZ back in the 90's.
I have the utmost respect for his restorations - some of the best I have seen. Incredible attention to detail.

What Bogey said. Met your dad more than once. Welcome!

Re: OWNER - rubadub3 (Harrison)

Welcome! My wife and I spent a lot of time talking with your parents at the East Coast GTG. At the time I didn't yet have a 500E but I've since purchased my own and in the same Smoke Silver as your car. Without a doubt the best color!

Re: OWNER - rubadub3 (Harrison)

Thanks for the welcome everyone, looking forward to getting some serious time in behind the wheel this spring. I've probably only put a couple hundred miles on her, most of which were the first trip back to PA a year ago before shop time.

I'll be sure to pass on the kind words to my father and the shop.

The floor mats were ordered from cocomats.com, they have a great product. Even if its for an automobile they don't have readily available they offer a stencil option so an owner can make a perfect fit, great color options as well.

The paint work was mostly top side and front. Hood and top of front fenders including flares were a must, this car was previously in Texas and someone got a little heavy on the buffer. Rear trunk lid, plate recess and top of rear fenders for an appropriate blend as well. The strips under the headlights were also done. The sides of the car were in pretty good shape, I may have to get to the roof in the future but for now it presents well. Front bumper skin was removed and painted as rock chips were previously plentiful.

I found the replacement of the rear OEM glass, which had fogged in the corner considerably, along with re-chroming of the front grill and elbows on top of the front bumper crucial in giving the car back some of it's snap. Now it's time to personalize a bit with wheels, suspension, etc...still figuring out the best option to sit right on the 18" monoblocks.

Some more pictures along with way, including getting rid of that awesome 90's aftermarket alarm system!

Welcome to the board Harrison. We will look forward to seeing more of you and your new ride.

BTW, You don't list where you reside. Not your address just a ballpark area if you would.

Re: OWNER - rubadub3 (Harrison)

Are those a couple of 190sl's behind your 500e?!

They are indeed, a few 190SL projects currently at Precision Autoworks. Working on some serious internal motor performance upgrades for the next restoration, more information to come after some street testing :wootrock:

Re: OWNER - rubadub3 (Harrison)

Hi Harrison, I too met your mom and dad and your car at the East Coast GTG. We spoke quite a bit at lunch about judging Gullwings, and restorations, etc. What a storehouse of knowledge in his head! And your mom was pretty sharp as well. Enjoy the car this spring - maybe we can all set up another GTG somewhere.

Re: OWNER - rubadub3 (Harrison)

I know that Mark R has been considering another Wash DC area GTG.

Great pictures, love seeing 500e's getting some love. My favorite is the rat's nest of what appears to be an aftermarket alarm system (and god knows what else). I actually take great pleasure in tearing stuff like that (i.e. junk) out of cars.

:goodjob:

Indeed! A few more pictures from the alarm...situation

I've been hoping another East Coast GTG was in the works, would be great to be a part of it.

Cheers,

Harrison

Some of us in the DC area have begun bouncing around ideas for another GTG. Nothing definite yet but we'll keep (and everyone else) posted.
