Hi, this is my first post. Here's my new car:

It's a 1994 e500 that's been repainted with about 160k miles.

I have a question: what's the best way to get the stock rims back? Those are 18" AMG / Mercedes rims which aren't really my taste. Should I try to trade them?

Congrats on the purchase! Looks like it was this car that you bought? Very sharp looking in monochrome:

It may be difficult to locate a set of used, stock wheels. It depends if you want them to look like new or not. It may not be cost effective to refinish a used set, but it depends what you can find for sale. I think they are still available new for $275/ea, $1100/set (click here).

You may find someone willing to trade wheels. It would help if you could post the exact part number and size/offset of your current 18" wheels. Based on the previous owner's listing I think they are the high-ET version which requires pretty thick spacers, so they're not ideal for an E500E. Might be S-class wheels... Karl or Glen may know for sure.

Welcome to the forum!

Welcome! That looks sorta like a car that was just listed on Craigslist this week in the south bay? Did you pick that car up? Looks nice!

sf_500e,
I am in San Mateo as well, and though I don't have any OEM wheels to trade, if you are interested in the 17's on my car now (CL style), I'd be interested in a potential trade. These aren't "original" style either, but I was thinking about some 18's anyhow. These are 17x8's, with an offset of 25, so you don't need any spacers.

As Dave says, sometimes you can find original sets around, as well.

Either way, welcome!

I think I have three perhaps four stock wheels. I will check in the next few days. Located in Orange County

Beautiful vehicle . I like the color combination. You can go wrong with black.

It is never bad idea go to stock wheel with E500E.

Great purchase, welcome to the family!!!

I have the same 94 E500 down in Mountain View!

I also have my stock wheels which I am willing to sell, they are stored in my garage would you like me to send you a few close up pics of the condition of the wheels?

Tomer

Great, can you give me a day or two to take pics? I have kid activities going on, and the wheels are in the attic of my garage :-)

Do you live in the city, or in the San Mateo area?

Time permitting I would love to chat about your car and any questions you may have... Mine was repainted as well by the original owner, and at first I thought that was a bit of a negative, but when you see other cars of our age with paint peeling off hood and roof, I think we are in good shape...

By the way, I am pretty sure you can resell your current wheels at or above what you will pay for stock wheels!! Wheel preference is so subjective!!

cheers
Tomer..
