Painting LCAs?

I received a set of new OEM LCAs (Manufactured in Slovenia and Germany like the others) and they were shipped only with the air pockets which are used to fill dead space in a box. Needless to say the air pockets all popped but 1 and the LCAs look scratched as if they had just been shipped in an empty box. Frustrating as this means the LCAs will cost more now to prep before I put them on.

So now I am trying to figure out the best way to protect them. Can I powder coat them?

When I put brand new LCA's on my '92 500E, I had the old LCA's powdercoated after removing the old ball joints and bushings. Not quite what you're proposing, but based on my experience I don't see why you can't. Message me if you'd like to see my powdercoated LCA's with there shiney new ball joints and bushings.

Since powder coating requires temps of 200°C (390°F), I don't know if that is safe for either the ball joint (which is NOT removable on late LCA's) or the rubber bushings (you don't want to remove new bushings).

I'd touch up the paint, or fully repaint if desired.

Early LCA's with removable ball joints can be safely powder coated with the BJ's and bushings removed, as MB V8 described above.

Robert, btw... what dealer did the lousy packing job? The last couple I bought (years ago) also were packed poorly and arrived scratched up.
