Porsche 911 Parts hoard on BaT

I love seeing stuff like this. Makes me feel soooo much better about my measly box or two (cough) of hoard parts. Right, @Jlaa?

"I don't have a hoarding problem. That Porch 911 guy? Whoa, HE has a hoarding problem!!"

:jono:

I saw that listing earlier and curiosity got the best of me, so I read through it. Seller is apparently an expert engine builder for 911s (not 356s). He says his parts guy left and he isn't going to remain in the parts sale side of the business, although he intends to continue his skilled/craft side of the business. But what an impressive array of engines and hard parts.....

That is a dream stash right there. In some ways it makes me sad to see talent aging out. Similar situation to a fellow who specializes in Citroen service in upstate NY. Article written as a plea to find someone who would carry the torch while learning from the master. I certainly thought about it but the Buffalo area is pretty harsh in the winter and I’m too old to carry the torch for another 20years. I also remember when you could buy a reconditioned engine from Vertex for under 4 grand for a 3.0 engine. Now 4 grand might get you a rebuildable long block on a lucky day.

Not being a Porsche expert I'm kinda wondering if this would be a wise investment long term. Sure the Porsche market is red hot now but how long will there be appetite for what appears to be older Porsche parts? I'm sure you'll get these for pennies on the dollar but it's a huge haul to "feed and keep" long term. Just my 2c.

I think it would take years to unload this stuff. Whoever wins this Porsche better be a young man w/ a huge desire to be a Porsche Tech and parts vendor.

@daantjie,
IMOP, Air cooled Porsches will be around for a long time. Look at the prices they are getting for the 356s and the late 90s air cooled 911s. A lot of Porsche aficionados only want the air cooled cars.

Anyway, Just my opinion:)
