SOLD
Hello all,
I have a 19mm Addco R129 rear swaybar for sale. Addco catalog part number 2055 (NLA AFAIK). Mercedes-Benz - Addco . As an R129 owner, I've been lurking here for a long while, mining for information shared across the two chassis. Please read through this post and see pics below as to why I'm listing this bar here.
In a nutshell:
1. The "hump" in the middle of the Addco swaybar to clear the tubular front portion of the rear subframe of my 1999 R129 SL500 is not clocked correctly. The hump contacts the top of the differential before full droop of the rear suspension.
2. Pictures I've seen of the shape and clocking of the hump on the 500e rear swaybar, which I understand fit the 400E/420e perfectly, is very similar to my "R129" Addco bar. AMG and RENNtech swaybar reproductions | Brakes, Suspension and Steering
3. The clocking of the hump on my Addco rear bar is very similar to that of the W210 E55 rear swaybar, which I understand fit the W124 V8 cars, aside from slight interference with the fuel tank hose. Clearance between the hump and differential is not the issue with the W210 E55 bar on the W124. Apparently it is other differences in the shape of the bends of the W210 bar that causes interference with the fuel hose. 400/500 sway bar upgrade options? | High-Performance Modifications
4. Sooo, because the 19mm Addco bar looks very similar in overall shape and clocking to the 500E bar, and the hump on the bar is clocked similarly to W210 AMG bars, I believe this bar fits the W124 V8 engine cars. In fact, based on how far off the clocking is compared to my stock R129 bar, I think Addco fashioned this bar from a 500E bar rather than an R129 bar and just assumed it would work. Also, I doubt a 1mm difference in diameter would interest 500E owners, so I've posted this bar here.
The first pic below shows the Addco 19mm bar on top of an H&R 20mm W210 swaybar that is listed for all W210's including the E55.
The second pic compares the clocking of the hump of the Addco bar in comparison with the W210 bar.
Without confirmation via test fitment on a V8 W124, I realize this would be a bit of a gamble for a 400E/E420 owner. However, at $100 + shipping within the con-US, and the fact that 500E bars are NLA and as rare as hens teeth to find on the used market, I don't think it's too big of a gamble.
Let me know if any of you are interested. Thanks.
