R129 ABS Brake booster NLA...any options?

Hello, my 2002 SL500 had the ABS Pump go bad...leaking brake fluid whenever brake pedal is depressed. Looks like Mercedes no longer has these (can't believe it as this is used on many different cars). I'm bringing in one from ebay but does anyone know about these and if there is anyone out there that rebuilds them? Part number is 0034312112.

Here's a link to what I purchased but would like to have a better solution than a $100 used part.

Thanks in advance,
Eric

There appear to be a lot of people rebuilding ABS "modules", but I don't see much about pumps when I search. To be honest, unless it's off of a model like a W163 where they failed pretty regularly, for the price I would just go with a good, guaranteed used one from a breaker. In all the years I've owned and worked on MBs, I can't ever recall having to replace an ABS pump.

What Dan said. 1990's / early 2000's ABS pumps are very, very rare failures. I've never had to replace one, and I only recall one or two (maybe) replacements discussed on this forum. The late R129 pump is slightly different but I'd expect a used one should be fine. If nobody rebuilds them, it supports the theory of rare failures... low demand!

Eric, had the brake fluid been flushed/replaced every 2-3 years with DOT 4/4+ fluid? I've never heard of one leaking!

Hi Dave,

I've owned the car for the last 3 years and have had the brake fluid changed twice...once when purchased and then once last year. The car had 19k miles when I bought it but service records were sparse so not sure how often it was changed in the last 18 years.

One of the replacements Dave is referencing may be my own. I'm still not sure my pump went bad. I bought a used pump just in case from another member because He realized his was not bad either.

The W163s in the early 2000 models had issues with ABS pump failures, mainly due to road grunge from the front left wheel being flung onto the pump. In these cases, the motor failed, which can be changed without a lot of effort as I recall. That's the only car I have ever known to have ABS pump issues.

Dan
