Hello Gentlemen 🙂

I wanted to help a fellow BW.org member on a question that he posted on sub-forum over there, as I can also benefit if what he wants is possible at all:

Samosali
Hi, I have chinese C3 multiplexer and cable which works fine with W204 (2012) and W221 (2008), so it is obd2 16pin on car's side.
I want to use C3 on my W140 y. 1992 so i need an interface cable from 38pin connector on car to female 16pin which will couple with male 16pin which then goes into C3.
I have hardware (male 38pin and female 16pin) however I do not have a wire diagram how to connect wires. I tried two options from Google but it does not work. There is message in DAS something like "incorrect cable". Please help.

I would appreciate any inputs from my fellow members here.

Thank you in advance

I'm not quite sure what he's trying to do, but the 38-pin cable needs all 38 conductors to connect to the C3. You cannot have a 38-pin connector on one end, somehow losing 22 wires and turning into 16 pins on the other end of the same cable. If he's trying to adapt the 38 pin connector on the car to an OBD-2 connection, this is NOT possible!!

Also, his C3 software must have HHT-Win support in order to function with any 140 chassis.

Need to double check with Seven... that link shows a cable for M6+, not C3 (the connectors are different at the MUX).

:detective:
It is the same part number that I bought for my C5 last year:

EDIT - The C3 is NOT the same. See GSXR's post immediately below.

The C3 is the same AFAIK
Might just be a description error in the listing - Seven would be able to confirm.

The C3, C4, and M6+ have totally different connectors at the MUX... the cables aren't interchangeable. This means there are three different 38-pin cable designs, one each for C3, C4, and M6+.

Hmmm, I think you are correct.

The C3 (I have never seen one in the flesh) appears to have a 19 pin MUX connector.

The C4 is the same as the C5 which is 38 pin and the M6+ is a 45 way D-Sub connector

M6+ (can't find a decent image of the MUX but this is the cable:

Apologies for any inconvenience.

Hello Dave and Pierre ☺️

I would like to thank the both of you for taking the time to share information with regards to my request for information (y), more so when the topic is not even "used for the E500E cars" :thumbsup2:

May I ask for permission from the both of you ... if I may repost the replies that you have generously shared here on this forum with the BW.org W140 sub-forum?

Best regards to the both of you

Sure, go and and repost! (y)

Really need more info as to what he is trying to do. Also, all years of 140 chassis require the same SDS hardware/software/cables as the E500E, so it was pretty much on-topic for this forum.

No problem, I imagine anything posted on here is in the public domain anyway but thanks for asking.

Hello again Gentlemen :)

My fellow BW.org member "samosali" says thank you for your replies/suggestions:

Great, many many thanks. According to the above text it is not possible to make 38pin connector on one side and 16pin on the other side. BTW i have HHT-Win support on my laptop, this is not a problem at all. My problem is just a low quality C3 multiplexer which does not allow frequent changing of input cable. That's why i came to idea to make 38pin to 16pin cable on my own or to buy it.
Still, I can buy another C3 multiplexer, a decent C3-38pin cable and fix the cable on the multiplexer because these cheap things are really not made for touching connectors a lot.
Thanks again!

In case I might have missed relaying to you Gentlemen and also if you might have some free time ... you may want to try the link below, this is where the discussion is:
