Re: FS: 1992 500E, Black/Grey, 139kmi, $19k (Houston, TX)
Finally got to see this car today and it looks like someone has put some time and money into it since it was seen about 18 months ago in Dallas. Story is that the car was purchased by an older guy that started the work and passed away before it ended up in the current dealers hands.
Current dealer has a Bosch repair facility in his building and is supposed to call me when they find the documentation that came with the car and what they've done since it's been there. It should have significant receipts from the last 100 miles or so. All facelifted parts (hood, truck, lights, etc. excluding the stereo) are available and come with the car. He claims the black birdseye is the E60 wood? I actually liked it, but I think it would look much better in a black interior vs. the grey. Substantial restoration on the paint, replacement of 2/3 of the horizontal surface helped no doubt. They said it spent 2 weeks at the detail place getting a full rub down and some paint sealing process that I had never heard of before, but I'm going to follow up on that with the shop. Compared to 993's previous description, the paint looked good and I want to know more about that process. I should ahve asked to see the original hood and trunk to get a better appreciation of the previous condition. Lowers looked fresh, wheels refinished, new tires (although probably a brand that no one on the board would buy with their own money), original spare in the trunk with the storage tub/tools in place. All books, stamps recorded until it left Michigan (1992-2000) and, again, supposed to be more receipts that I'll get a call/email about when located. Door pockets were perfect, but the leather did have holes that had been patched from cup holders. Seats good shape for 138k miles. Under the hood: fresh radiator, fans,
upper wiring harness, plugs, bright white coolant overflow tank even. drove well with no extra noises, but I did think the trans. was a little slow to downshift when prompted. SRS and CEL were on, but they claimed the seat had been unplugged for the radio upgrade and it just needed to be reset and the CEL was something else that was handled (don't remember what it was now) and just needed to be reset. Did not see any leaks, but the engine had been cleaned and detailed fairly recently (no death by Amorall, just clean) and it's probably gone less than 100 miles since all the work was done.
I totally forgot to look at the undercarriage...DUH!
I have pics, but have never successfully uploaded onto the site, so I'll need to send to GVZ and let him upload for future reference.
If anyone is interested in more detail, I can follow up or forward contact info. Place is between my house and my office (less than 2 miles), so no problem going by for more info or pics if needed. All that said, without support of some major receipts, I can't see $18k for this one and it makes the Spruce/Shroom one from next door look like a steal although it's more original and complete.
