SOLD SOLD: Genuine MB wheel bearing grease 150 gram tubes

Re: Genuine MB wheel bearing grease 150 gram tubes

The MB "green grease" in the tubes is manufactured by Fuchs. It's identical to FUCHS Renolit LX-PEP 2. It is the same grease that is specified for chassis greasing on the G-wagens, as well as the front swivel balls, wheel bearings, etc. It's most economical to buy this grease in tubes that will fit into a grease gun.

Cheers,
Gerry

Where can one find this grease?

Re: Genuine MB wheel bearing grease 150 gram tubes

Correct. This is a very good vendor for G-wagen parts, though expensive. A lot of their stuff you can get for cheaper via the usual on-line sources. However, you cannot buy the Fuchs Renolit grease via Amazon, so this is a good place to get it. Or buy it from MB in the tubes.

BTW for the E500E, one or two tubes is more than enough to do the wheel bearings on the front axle of the car with plenty left over. In contrast, the G-wagen requires prodigious amounts of lubricants of all kinds.

Cheers,
Gerry

Re: Genuine MB wheel bearing grease 150 gram tubes

All the grease a man really needs for the G-wagen.

The Fuchs Renolit grease in the tube is the "green wheel bearing grease" that MB sells in smaller tubes. Looks the same, smells the same. These are grease-gun-sized cartridges.

With three of these Fuchs tubes, and four unopened tubes of the MB green grease, I've now definitely outscored Vader in the green grease department :clarkz1:

Re: Genuine MB wheel bearing grease 150 gram tubes

Where did you get the green Fuchy grease, Gerry? Rough pricing vs the red CV-2?

Re: Genuine MB wheel bearing grease 150 gram tubes

I still have 9 tubes of the Genuine MB grease.

I'm set for a few years I think.

Oh yeah, no longer for sale.

Re: Genuine MB wheel bearing grease 150 gram tubes

The Fuchs grease is available via G-wagen specialist Eurotruck Importers, which is the only place I've ever seen it for sale in the US.

$9.75 a 400-gram tube, plus shipping. Much better than any MB pricing.

The RedLine grease is purchased locally at Smiley's Racing Products (a speed shop here in The Woodlands) ... of course it can be bought via Amazon and other online places, too.

$11.95 a tube plus sales tax.

That should be a good supply not only for your 400E, but to lubricate the hyperdrive on your TIE fighter too....

Re: Genuine MB wheel bearing grease 150 gram tubes

.

I'd rather have the Genuine article.

Your large tubes could be compensating for something else undersized.............:D

Oh, I accept my position on the 124 sedan pecking order proudly.

I have near perfect paint & interior, new transmission (maybe 20K miles) and a perfect M119.975

Did I mention all 4 door checks have the original 147 paint?

I'm all good.

Happy New Years guys.

Re: Genuine MB wheel bearing grease 150 gram tubes

Old thread.. but hey ya know what I did tonight!

Got brgs off amazon. AZ quit carrying Timken. Set 12 and 17. I use OE seals.. ordered 3 just in case it went bad.
I remove the small race 1st. I used a cut down seal driver, some use a socket. Big brass he and hammer oUT the big race. Good effort.
Degreased, walnut blasted. Wheel side gets s70, back side gets chromate primer, epoxy black paint.
Drive the new races in. Get them square. Checked with press to make sure they are seated.

Kitchen scale weight brgs, pack with grease and pile up to 70-75grams.
0.01 mm, new brgs. Feels a tad loose but will drive it a bit and adjust as necessary.

Agree with Jono. Wife's car with 100,000 miles need some adjustments. But repacked and adjusted. No damage yet.

I like the green color. You can detect if it was overheated or if contamination.
Obviously synthetic and seems to last.

Didn't see this mentioned earlier in the thread (since it's a FS thread, not a HOW-TO)...

Note the cars with the larger (R129) bearings, all V8 models (.034/.036) and long wheelbase, use 60g total per side. That's 45g in both bearings & inside the hub between bearings, plus 15g in the cap. Klink has mentioned in the past that the additional 15g in the cap is optional.

Always a good idea to re-check bearing end play with a dial gauge a few thousand miles after new bearings are installed. Make sure to use lug bolts to clamp the brake disc tightly to the hub when checking! If this is not done, the bearing end play will be too tight (zero!). I've bought several 124's that arrived with zero bearing play, and I suspect this happened because the disc wasn't clamped properly.

Re: Genuine MB wheel bearing grease 150 gram tubes

I tried unsuccessfully to contact Vader, offering to purchase a few tubes of surplus grease he may have had. I subsequently purchased 2 tubes of the stuff off ebay from a Company in California for $18 delivered.

Re: Genuine MB wheel bearing grease 150 gram tubes

Vader sold all of his stock of wheel bearing grease .... to me .... quite a while back. I now have about 10-12 tubes of it. :jono:

You've cornered the market on wheel bearing grease!
