Sticky request: VIN decoder

There are several links to various VIN decoders interspersed throughout this site & many member's questions which can be answered by the info a decoded VIN provides.

Requesting creation of a Sticky which gathers these various VIN decoders into one thread for quick & easy access for all.

I am not currently aware of any online VIN decoder, since the Russian club decoder was turned offline (possibly due to legal pressure from Mercedes). If there are any out there - I'd love a current link! I have been using the EPC for this, but I'm not always in front of a PC with the EPC installed.

There are 2 working Russian versions listed within this thread. Overall detail accuracy has been questionable according to some members.

Perhaps this thread could be made a sticky within the proper forum so members without access to EPC can at least somewhat decipher VINs.

Ваше здоровье!

I compared my EPC datacard info to the neoriginal.ru site. The russian site displayed 14 of 21 SA codes, correct engine, tranny, order#, paint & interior codes. I believe the site has a habit of listing car model name incorrectly as JAPAN (although it correctly displays the code for USA version).

The auto-parts.spb.ru displayed 19 of 21 SA codes & correct engine, tranny, order#, paint & interior codes.

So, overall, it doesn't show everything, but may provide a lot of info members may be interested in.

No problem making a VIN decoder site sticky, but the EPC is effectively free for US owners (and moderate price for non-US folks) and the VIN/datacard information in the online EPC is going to be the best available. I would recommend that folks just use a credit/debit card and get the online EPC through MB. I don't trust the Russian sites now that the MBclub.ru VIN decoder was taken down (which is unfortunate).

Cheers,
Gerry
