Sun Roof Cable: Wont Go through the end of the cable chase

Very strange problem here. I'm re doing the sunroof. Pulled the cable. No problem so far.

On re-install, cable would not go all the way through the chase/guide pipe. It stops at the very end where the chase would connect to the motor. Pulled the cable out and sent a )) wire through to make sure something did not break off. Wire went right through. Ran the wire the opposite direction just to be sure. No problems.

Now I tried feeding the cable backwards from the trunk. Wow! The end of the cable would not go through... unless I force it and then it wants to get VERY stuck.

So... bought a new cable. Same problem! Tried filing the end of the chase inside to be sure it is smooth. Still won't go through without forcing.

Stumped. Would appreciate any advice. Thanks.

The cable should push in from the roof towards the trunk, and when it hits the motor, you need to engage the motor to pull it back.

If it's getting completely stuck before it hits the motor, that isn't good. You'll need to disassemble the motor from around the guide tube in the trunk and see if you can figure out what's going on. If everything was working before you took it apart, seems very odd that the cable won't go back in.

:scratchchin:

Hi, Factory manual (77-140 Removal and installation of control cable) gives a hint to loose the screws of the motor unit. Don't whether it will help.

I just did this job very recently. It took me several attempts to push the cable in until it reached the motor. I kind of had to shock-slam it in there - maximum instantaneous torque, like you're trying to break open a nut. On 3rf or 4th try it went all the way to motor and it caught it. Obviously shock-slam within a reason. Inserting the cable in patient, controlled manner did not work for me

I had the same problem - wire got stuck at the very end. I took me several attempts, in fact I was close to a panic  Be patient, it will go through eventually, I remember that after x time when I started from the scratch it just went through without any major resistance. Patience is a key here I believe.
