Throttle Actuator

Replaced my throttle actuator with a used one from an SEL 500. Car was great for about 6 months, now engine light is on again, and the car will intermittently drive great or have problems. Texas German Autohaus (in Houston, TX) recommended getting another used one.

I don't see the point, seems like these parts are old and keep going out. Is there a way to fix them? read that they are not that complicated, its either the wiring or the movable plate that needs work. Any recs?

Thanks

The idea is not just to get a used one- but you want one off a donor which is of recent date of manufacture. So it's a low mileage nearly new replacement for a fraction of the new price.

Case in point- last one I sold was manufactured in 2011. By the looks, I'd bet money it had spent less than a year on the car.

I wouldn't put much stock into "not very complicated". You can renew the wiring harness on ? either early or late-but gears, and actuators fail. Capacitors, diodes and wiring can be replaced... lot of effort on an old one. Seems like you can by a refurbished one, but it cost twice as much and results can be mixed.

Can always shell out $1500 for a new one.

MB is showing factory rebuilds available, $1k list, $750 from Naperville with free shipping (plus core charge, and cost to ship back the core). No idea if they are actually available though, you'd need to call a dealer and ask. If available, that beats ~$900 for a Beckmann rebuild.

I second the recommendation for buying a used, late-datecode ETA. What was the datecode on the one which just failed after 6 months?
