hi guys.
I was replacing the AC drain and working on the driver side of the transmission. found a clear vacuum not connected . I looked around and saw the vacuum modulator not connected.I connected the vacuum to it and now the transmissions shifts real hard .
could my car have been adjusted with the vacuum modulator disconnected?
the cable adjustment is just for cold upshifts, that is the cable I adjusted when I purchased the car.

Thanks.
Erick

Check to see if the vacuum modulator actually holds a vacuum. I would also verify that the line from the engine to the modulator isnt compromised - plugged with dirt, burn holes where it may have hit exhaust etc. If there were adjustments without the modulator connected to vacuum, then most likely there will be changes when it is operational meaning a check of vacuum integrity and everything working, most likely adjustments will be needed.

Vacuum present will cause softer shifts, zero vacuum causes harder shifts. What you describe sounds backwards.

As nocfn mentioned above: make sure the vacuum tube connects to the proper location on the back of the intake manifold, that the tube+fittings are all intact, and also that the modulator holds vacuum.

The Bowden cable linkage will adjust shift points at all temps, not just cold.
