I love the fake exhaust tips embedded into the back bumper. Ugh.

Reminds me of the quad exhaust of the C4 Corvette....of which only TWO of the four pipes actually exhausted gases (which was apparent through discoloration of the functional exhaust tips some time after use).

Wonder why MBs lose so much value, so quickly? We got 58% of the original price for a 2017 Lexus we bought in late 2016 -- 6.5 years old. I wonder what the residual on an E-class would be after 6.5 years......
I have one solution for the fake exhaust tips:

I think that MB doesn't hold that value that great, so it's going to be zero.

Looks like someone put a Star in the grille of a Camry.

I kinda like the tail light stars though. The fake rear bumper exhaust ports are pathetic.

:oldman:
The tail lights is really cool idea, but it's not there somehow. Everything threw me off.

I actually like the design, at least of the version with the traditional grille and hood ornament. The lines are not very busy for a modern car which makes it look nice and subdued.

Now the interior light show…..that’s a whole different level of ugly

Yesterday I saw an EQS 350+ next to me for a couple of miles. Must be a 2023 model it is very similar to the model Draginev posted above. IMOP, Mercedes has lost it big time. It is really an UGLY CAR. The exterior was so plain vanilla that if the MB Star wasn’t on it I don’t think you could tell it was a Mercedes.

I would prefer a Toyota Camry or a Honda Accord over it any day at probably less than 1/2 the price and probably 3 times the reliability.

I don't know @TimL, It feels like something Bruno Sacco can design with his eyes blindfolded on this one. The different between Gordon and Sacco is that by trying to connect the originality from the past and put it in the present. While Gordon didn't this time. The grille doesn't align with the headlights for example, something an OCD might get triggered.
On the other hands, I don't hate Gordon, there was some few great designs that was made by him which I really like. Such as the CLS 63s(C218) 2nd generation was such a nice looking car

We are not the target for this type of car. Mostly it is aimed to the Gen Z for the love of gimmicks and technology or the influencers that won't keep this car for 2 weeks.

So, I was reading the current issue of Mercedes Enthusiast, and was eager to see they had a writeup on the new W214 (attached below). And then I was shocked and disappointed to see that this was the entire writeup. I’m actually not kidding.

It leads me to think a lot of these unappealing options can be specified out of the car, but I guess I’ll have to wait for a showroom to see. It all seems fairly a la carte. Like @TimL the shape of the car doesn’t offend me — I actually like it, minimalist, substantial and athletic all at once. And owning a ‘22 E450 I realize that central display is rather easily turned off with two pushes and a swipe of a finger, after which the cabin is actually quite pleasant (ours has leather instead of MBTex, which helps more than one might expect).

Someone will need to explain that exhaust gadgetry to me but I suspect it won’t be a part of the “range topping inline six” they indicate is coming (which I expect to be amazingly similar to the drivetrain in the garage downstairs).

So I’ll reserve judgment for now. I also like the C218 cars @Draginev (as does my wife), which is sort of what we both like about her W213. Sure the proportions are different but I see a lot of C218 in the W213 and W214. I don’t actually see how one can like the C218 but not the W214 / W223 / W224, which are all the same family (at least to my eyes) but I’m sure people will line up to tell me how. Yes, clearly the simplicity of the ‘80s and ‘90s interior center T console are gone for good. But as long as it’s not blinking and glaring at me, I don’t find it as horrible as I expected to (even though it’s loaded with features I’ll probably never use, which are bound to break eventually and annoy the hell out of me).

maw

EDIT… I actually *can* see myself taking conference calls from the car at the beach (as seen in my avatar, actually), so the notion of an integrated camera inside doesn’t offend me, seeing how every Uber I’ve been in recently has dash and camera cams all over the place).

These were not Gordons's designs, its the former designer that left to become the chief designer at Porsche.
You can see how the designs deteriorated after he left.

Hello Maw!

The C218 and W223 (pre facelift) are almost identical and share the DNA language, if you notice how the tail lights are shaped and the front. Only difference between these two is the shoulder line at the sides, where C218 doesn't have that nice continuous line except for the bottom while the W223 has on the top (which share together with W211, W124 and W123). The interior on the C218 is really good, same for W212 facelift, but really admiring the interior of the W213 because it resembles the W123 interior with cylindrical vents, my father owned one W123 and W124 in the 90s so these affect me. These small details do matter to me to remind me that it's a Mercedes. By getting past to the future is the key here. I believe I'm maybe stuck with the W124 as a perfect standard design so I blame Bruno Sacco for that.

But W214 is entirely different, it's very new and risky approach of the new designs that doesn't share anything from the past. And you won't find any resemblance. The taillight of the W214 is a nice feature and they have put a lot of risk to design this model but I'm disappointed because I'm not a big fan of Techs. I agree that W214 is simple and minimal but still doesn't cut it for me.
