WANTED Wanted: 1992 500E front Bumper

I am looking for a used or new front bumper for my 1992 500e. Any suggestions? Thanks.

These are very difficult to locate used, especially in good condition. A new bumper is p/n 124-880-47-70, current MSRP is $1460, the discount dealers may sell it for 20-25% off (plus shipping). Try Tom Hanson at the MB Classic Center, also Darvin Fletcher at MB Gainesville (click here for contact info).

FWIW... if installing a new bumper, I'd highly recommend replacing the fog lamps at the same time. The old ones usually have badly pitted lenses. Complete lights are more cost-effective than just lenses, the lights are 129-820-01-56 and 129-820-02-56, current MSRP is $146 each, under $120/each wholesale...

Thanks Dave. Just bought one of the last 3 new MB front bumpers available in North America according to the distributor. Great suggestion on the fog lights. Appreciate it.

Yikes, does this mean that front bumpers will soon be NLA? It won't be good news for the 500E community if a minor fender (bumper) bender becomes a serious issue.

I am pretty sure those last three sourced bumpers are here in USA but more can be brought from Europe now way last three in world. Not sure but there has to be certain time to produce parts after the model year was discountinued.

The bumper I received is unpainted. Not sure about Europe, but the sales person for parts.com, Rocco, said something about MB USA discontinuing certain parts and the front bumper for the 500e was one of them. I was able to obtain for just under $1000 including shipping which is around $150.

Do these come painted? Anyone know msrp for rear bumper? Thx
Absolutely not. None of the exterior parts are available pre-painted since probably the late 1990's. They come in primer, ready for paint.

Rear bumper (A1248802071 for USA) is $1200 MSRP.

Thanks gsxr the reason I asked is I need this piece part number A1246909140 and was told here it comes painted but dealer told me its not painted so I figured ask same question for bumper. I guess i need to get that piece and paint it unless I find it used.

You received incorrect information. Your dealer is correct, the part is NOT painted. Mercedes used to stock pre-painted parts but stopped doing that nearly two decades ago due to the insane expense.

This year I bought 2 fenders and the front bumper with strip and they were all flat black primer ready for paint from MBUSA.

Not likely...while there were 2 or 3 only in the US warehouse in NJ....Hanover parts warehouse in D-land had close to 50 last time I checked (last year)....

I have a used one still that needs minor repair and a repaint...I won't ship it tho, pick up only if anyone see this and needs one.

Michael sent this to me today:

........"Called tom Hanson. No stock. NLA. No production run planned for 2016."

That is for the complete bumper assembly, 124-880-47-70.

The bare bumper is still available, 124-885-15-25 but this does not include the mounting hardware, tow hook cover, etc. Someone said only ~40 left worldwide, I think?

So if someone bumps into my bumper my car will get totaled. I need rear bumper or at least the chrome strip that is curved on driver side not even sure that is sold separately.

Depends on your insurance company, and how bad the damage is. You may want to consider an agreed-value policy if you don't already have one. Search the forum, this has been discussed before.

Yep, all the stainless steel trims are available separately, but they are 036-specific and not cheap. The front 'boomerangs' are nearly $300 each list. Sadly, the rears are the same... $292 list, ~$235 wholesale. Each side. Good news is, they appear to still be available new!

Rear bumper (124-880-20-71) is still available, $1040 list, parts.com has it for $621 plus shipping (~$700 delivered, assuming they don't hose you with a freight charge). I'd jump on that if you need one. Doubt you'll find one cheaper anywhere else. This is a price drop from last year, it had been $1200 list.

Dario:

If you need the metal strip for the driver's side rear bumper, I have it from my last parts car.

That doesn't look easy to fix. I'd replace it and sell the old one to Russell (whippleman)...

:pc1:

Talked to Tom Hanson last night- the front bumper is NLA and no plan for another run in 2016.

Bummed...

I already sold the impact strip on my rear bumper and the bumper is deformed due to warpage, cause unknown. Not sure it is fixable. I will probably sell off the metal trim pieces and scrap the actual bumper cover.
