Good afternoon everyone,

I recently purchased a base 2005 E500 with the 5.0 v8 and am not familiar with the car at all. I have spend the past couple of days on google, and there is little to no info on this car. Can someone help me with knowledge of the car? I.E the engine name, body style name, does it come with forged internals or not, do i need to change the pistons, valves or anything else to add a supercharger/ turbos? transmission name? anything will be helpful. thank you all so much. I will attach pictures of the car and the VIN if it helps.

Your 2005 E500 is a W211 chassis, and has nothing in common with the older 500E/E500 (W124 chassis) that this forum is dedicated to, other than the Star logos on the bonnet & boot.

That said, your W211 is a nice car overall. It has the normally-aspirated M113 V8 engine which is known for being robust and reliable. And, it has the 722.9 seven-speed transmission (aka "NAG3") which is a good unit if maintained properly, but isn't ideal for high power applications.

Here's a link to the datacard for your VIN (WDBUF70JX5A777710), with all the options, engine/trans serial, etc. It looks like your car is a base model with few if any options, other than CD changer:

I've seen a couple of bolt-on superchargers for the stock M113 engine but the ROI is pretty awful, if you can even find one of those superchargers anywhere. Trying to custom fabricate forced induction would mostly be flushing money down the drain unless you absolutely love this car and plan to keep it for decades. The easiest conversion might be to source a factory supercharged M113 engine (aka 'M113K', for Kompressor) from a 2003-2006 E55 AMG. This would still be an electronics nightmare to swap, but a complete used motor can be found for ~$4k, makes nearly 500hp stock, and can be modified to 700+ with stock internals. You'd probably want to use the 722.6 five-speed transmission from the AMG motor, not the seven-speed in your car now. (More $$$, more difficulty.)

Given the cost of all this - could be pushing $10k with all DIY labor, easily double that if paying a shop... you might want to look into buying the AMG version of your same chassis. That would be a 2003-2006 E55 AMG, or a 2007-2009 E63 AMG (the latter is normally aspirated). You can find these for under $20k and they'll come with the larger brakes, wheels, tires, etc that your car lacks.

I'd leave your car stock for now, and see if you like it after 6+ months if daily driving, other than the lack of power. If so, it would make far more financial sense to sell the E500 and buy a factory AMG for ~$20k instead.
