Why you SHOULD NOT buy & install Üroparts replacement parts

All Uro parts (and FEQ, and FAE) are complete garbage. If you buy them for your car, you are penny wise and pound foolish. Don't do it. Pay double for the name-brand stuff, better get get Genuine MB (OE) parts via a dealer that sells at or below wholesale. I am shocked these companies are still in business, and disappointed that vendors such as RockAuto and AutohausAZ continue to knowingly carry this trash.

But they have a wonderful 2 year warrantee! Honestly, I've wondered a bit at times- what exactly goes wrong within the manufacturing- but these are simple rubber parts. I can understand lots of the other ones being hard to manufacture or reverse engineer without knowledge of how they are made.

Chinese rubber is very different than American/European rubber. Ever walk into a Harbor Fright store and smell a very chemical, funky smell? That's the Chinese rubber. It's a synthetically manufactured product from petroleum, not natural rubber sources. Thus it doesn't have the same chemical properties as real "gummi" rubber. The smell is the petroleum distillates and aromatics in the stuff.

The synthetic stuff also tends to have a rather shiny, greasy texture to it, while the real rubber is often powdery and white, and with age tends to get even whiter and more powdery. But real rubber is never greasy or oily in texture ... it maintains a matte finish. The smell of the fake rubber is a dead giveaway though. Friggin' pungent odor.

Natural rubber has a distinct smell and is more pliable/durable depending on the type employed.

Cheers,
Gerry

Arg. I bought Rear LCA Bushings from AutoHausAZ when I redid my rear bearings etc etc. I didn't choose cheaper ones (I don't mind buying expensive stuff) but I believe they sent me URO brand LCA (rear) bushings. THey had clearish rubber, and seemed to fit just fine.

I have the special press, so it isn't a massive deal to put new ones in, but any votes on how urgent that has to be?

Meaning can I drive it for a month or two and get back to it? Sigh....

Dan, which part number was it that you installed...? Can you check the AutoHaus invoice to confirm what brand they sent, assuming you didn't save the boxes?

FWIW - Uro will almost always be the cheapest of all mfr's presented in a list. So if you didn't select the cheap stuff, AND they sent Uro, that sounds like an Autohaus mistake.

:duck:

I can check when I get home. I remember they were in baggies. I might have saved them (I tend to save the labels, and put them in a book)
