Will be selling Spruce Green 1994 E500, SoCal **SOLD**

VIN = WDBEA36E4RC086690

After living in Hawaii successfully full time since mid 2018 I feel it is time to sell my ‘94 E500 which has been stored the whole time in California. The big island is no place for a car like this. This is the land of beat up 4wd Jeeps and pickups, not high speed luxury cars. I’ve spent a lot making the car absolutely reliable and wouldn’t hesitate to turn the key and drive interstate. It has less than 100k miles. I’ll be returning to visit California around the first of the year (2022) and will be cutting it loose at that time.

Hi Ken, Your car looks great. I haven't seen it since the big west coast GTG at CaptRuff's quit a few years back. Sad to see it and you go but I understand that times and circumstances change. I agree with you that Hawaii is no place for a collector car unless you have some sort of air conditioned garage with controlled humidity. The salt air alone will take a tole on the finishes.

When it goes up for sale someone will get a great car.

Good Luck with the Sale

Take Care

’94 E 500 93.7k miles Green w/parchment interior.

About the car:
This fully equipped USA spec E 500 was purchased new in June of ’94 in Scottsdale Arizona. The dealer loaded it down with extras such as paint and leather shield, anti-theft serial number etching on the windows, window tinting (50% bronze), cup holders, and chromed factory wheels. There it remained in the driest of climates for six years (this car has zero rust). The first owner moved to Spokane Washington in 2000 where he drove it an additional four years, ultimately trading it in at the Mercedes dealer where it was wholesaled out at auction to a muscle car dealer in Montana. The dealer drove it himself for a few months then brought it to San Diego where I purchased it and took delivery at the beginning of 2005 with 72,000 miles on it. Today it has roughly 93,700 miles on it and I have an extensive mileage history from when it was new. I didn’t use it for a daily driver, only for freeway runs to Palm Springs, Vegas, and LA.

My plan was to keep this car forever and make it the ultimate in reliability, but in moving to Hawaii I discovered where I live in Hawaii was no place for a car of this design. The roads I travel are slow, twisty, and bumpy, typically speeds not to exceed 30 mph, no place for an E500. So I never shipped the car over to Hawaii, rather just stored it in California w/ fuel stabilizer, under car cover in garage w/battery tender. After four years it just started right up no problem. Unfortunately the headliner was sagging and the stereo didn’t turn on so I just now replaced them with new ones. BTW the Kenwood unit sounds vastly better than the old Becker. It really wakes up the Bose system now sounding like a really good aftermarket system.

Additions, modifications and replacement parts:
  • Electronic first gear start with a defeat switch in the console.
  • 1992 LH Module installed with wide open throttle, additional horsepower and noticeably improved midrange power.
  • New Hella E500 Euro spec headlight housings with built-in Bi-xenon lamps and Lamin-x protective lens shields.
  • The factory cell phone antenna has been rewired to a cell phone amplifier located in the iphone holder on the dash for improved signal strength and range.
  • New Avant-garde grill
  • New Fog light lenses with Lamin-x covers.
  • Painted front and rear bumpers to correct fading
  • Installed Cool Harness engine temperature reducer
  • New upper engine harness
  • New Throttle body
  • Installed new radiator and clutch fan
  • Replaced all coolant hoses and thermostat.
  • Replaced all vacuum hoses on engine.
  • Installed new nitrogen spheres for level ride system
  • New Battery w/battery tender dongle (twice)
  • New brakes using Frozen Rotors w/zinc plating and Red pads
  • New engine and transmission mounts.
  • Bridgestone Turanza tires w/95% tread left
  • New Kenwood stereo w/Bluetooth for music and hands free phone. (Vastly improved sound quality) old Becker unit included but does not work.
  • New sound absorbing headliner in matching parchment color.
  • Car cover.
  • And much more.

Also have but not installed:
Lower engine harness and European version oil cooling system. 18” R230 take off wheels

Here are pics I took this morning. Will take best offer. You won't need to spend any money on this car. I've already done everything. Based on data from Bring a Trailer, it looks like it could be anywhere from 40-60K. Where do you think the price should be? You guys are the experts. Ready for sale this week my

Looks very nice with lots of maintenance items addressed 👍🏽

Some interior pictures would be great, as interior parts are increasingly an NLA worry.

If the interior pans out, I’d believe it’d be at the upper end of the price range you listed. Good luck with the sale!

The car sold yesterday to the first person who looked at it, another member of this group. He will undoubtedly will take the best care of it and was very happy to acquire this car in the exact color he wanted. Congratulations Matt.

Many thanks to GerryVZ, GSXR, Captruff, Jimbo, and everyone else on this forum for being great friends and so helpful in keeping this car up.
It was a pleasure meeting so many of you at the southern California get-togethers and I must say the E500E owners appear to be a highly intelligent group of people. It's been a pleasure to have the E500E experience. The new buyer will continue to be an active member of the group.

Hi All,

I am extremely grateful that @KeninSD sold the vehicle to me. I appreciate the help from @Jimbo and @captruff I look forward to keeping the group updated on the car as I begin to make it my own! @captruff already getting me sorted with a Big Brake Silver arrow kit and @5thscaleracer setting me up with new exhaust!!
Nice meeting you briefly on the road today, the car looks sooo clean!

Strange….500eforme seemed really excited about the car last time I talked to him and he made quite a few nice modifications to it, including a set of Das Auto Ganz E60 AMG replica springs from Japan. Last photos I’ve seen of the car, it looked really nice.

1994 E500, Spruce Green / Parchment, 93kmi, $75k (Sherman Oaks, CA)

$75k is a lot of spaghetti. Needs some work on the driver seat leather. That's a neat list of modifications. It would be nice to see a list of what the $7,500 mechanical overhaul included. At SoCal prices that could be fluids & filters, lol. :ROFLMAO: Also would like to know what exactly the "full exhaust" included, and is the original / stock exhaust available?

Be careful reading the replies in the RENNlist thread, it may be detrimental to your blood pressure. Who knew the E500E was a $10k experience and just a 400E with wider fenders?

Hey all,

Owner here 💁🏻‍♂️ figured I’d chime in. Truly looking for a trade for a Porsche either aircooled or the only water cooled I like which is 996. My wife vetod the e500 as my daily driver as we have a second daughter coming. Obviously, all of the money spent on modifying/upgraded was done for me. I have bought a brand new suv for daily driving duties and as my secondary I would like to have something more canyon carving focused. Happy to provide service records for all of the mechanical work I’ve done on the car as I’m an open book. Truly looking for a swap for the car otherwise I’ll convince my wife to let me keep for a bit longer.

Rennlist, hes looking to trade for a Porsche
I talked to the fellow on Rennlist briefly (I guess that's 500eforme here) about trading my 996 GT3 for his Spruce Green, moment of weakness because my 6/GT3 is a keeper too. The call of the 500E in Spruce Green was just overwhelmingly blinding momentarily! The above directly led me to look around and I found my ice blue queen. The Spruce Green is forever going to be one of my fav colors on the 500E though and looks like this was a solid car when current owner took over and made even better. New owner future will be very happy I'm sure.

Still available. To date the only interesting enough trade offer that came my way was a 996 gt3.. unfortunately it was branded due to flooding which for me is a hard pass.

I have decided I will consider selling for $65k as is with all of the OEM+ parts + mods. Alternatively, I am willing to revert the car back to mostly stock by removing the BBK, wheels and exhaust and offer it for what I paid but this would include LSD and PCM plus full mechanical refresh, interior refresh and paint correction, amg spec lowering springs and koni yellow adjustable struts

I will be removing the full Flieben exhaust kit produced by @5thscaleracer that has less than 2000 miles on it if anyone is interested, as well as the FORGED NEEZ EURO FIVE RIMS 18inch 9J ET20 10J ET25 and the porsche classic head unit.

The car will be going on a new set of e500 limited 6 spoke evo 2 style wheels and new tires. If anyone is interested in the car back in its mostly oem state feel free to message me or call at 310-560-5310. It will still retain the new amg spec lowering springs, new koni yellow adjustables, limited slip from wavetrac, and silver arrow sl600 big brake kit. If i don't get any interest in the next 2 weeks the car will be going to auction.

Feel free to reach out if you are interested in the Flieben Exhaust or Neez wheels with nearly new Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires. Getting a set of these for forged neez wheels out of Japan is no easy task as most of you already know.. Will let both the exhaust and wheels and tires go for a discounted price.

Thank you

Does this mean that the price of the car will be coming down from the $65-75K range previous noted?

The previous owner felt that the car was in the $40-60K range at the time he sold it, based on his interpretation of BaT sales at that time (late 2021). A lot of up-lift for 13-14 months of ownership, particularly if the car is being de-contented/de-modded. That said, the Porsche Type 2758 head unit alone is worth $5,000 !!

I'm back in the game, having bought this car from @500eforme a few weeks ago. I drove it home from SoCal to NorCal in about 8-9 hours, including a 2 hour backup on the grapevine with the car idling most of the time. No problems! It helped the temperature was in the low 70's.

I enjoyed my last 500E so much, I had to own another and this color combo is what I had been looking for. I bought the car with the Neez wheels and other mods. I still also have the OEM wheels, exhaust, headlights, etc. so it can be returned to stock but for now I'm enjoying it as it is.

I'll be fixing small issues myself but leave most mechanical work to the experts.

Here is a photo from a drive more suited for a 911 but still enjoyable in the E500 in third gear.
