Window door rubber seals

Does anybody know where I can get the rubber window seals on the 500e? Mine are dry from the california sun and need replacing.

Are you talking about the window scrapers? The rubber strips that seal between the window glass and the door?

If so, the material is sold in bulk and you just cut it to fit.

Thanks. Yes, those and also the rubber that goes around the windows as well. I have wind noise while driving. I assume those need to be changed as well.

Mboemparts.com is the place using 500epromo as your free shipping code. They are not cheap, but will last for 25 years.

Wind noise while driving is ALMOST always due to the felt channel that the glass tucks into when fully closed. I've had to replace these on several cars, always the driver's door. As a test you can run painter's tape over the outside, across the glass/frame, to block the air and see if the noise goes away. The felt channel is available in 2 different widths, as the glass thickness changed. early cars had 3mm, late were 4mm, the change was roughly around 1993 USA model year (EPC has the exact chassis break point).

I believe Dan is correct about the inner horizontal seal sold in bulk, but I think the other seals are sold individually? I'd have to check the EPC though. These genreally won't cause air noise but the outer ones can deform and not stay in place.

:tumble:

thanks.you are right, the horizontal ones are deformed and need to be replaced.i have a late 92 i believe. so i need the 3mm felt.i assume those are available.

The VIN break point is B809989 / B809990, which would be very late 1992 USA model year. Double-check your VIN to make sure.

3mm / early driver door felt channel = 124-725-01-25 ($60 list)
4mm / late driver door felt channel = 124-725-07-25 ($51 list)

Reviving this post as I would like to purchase these seals as I refresh my 500 a little.
Are these the seals that the window closes into? Rubber can be seen on the outside running along the inside of the window frame against the door?

Yes they are available, just be sure you get the right ones for your VIN break. Newer cars have thicker glass. If you have a digital caliper, perhaps you measure the glass thickness prior to ordering as the window may have been replaced with a different than stock glass. It is not uncommon to have a noisy window only to find out a spare was used from an older donor, and your seals are not worn all that badly. However, changing the "window run" and the door seal made quite a difference in the closing of the door and the removal of wind noise.

Awesome, thank you.
Mine is a 94. So the 4mm (late) style will do.

So the felt run is separate from the rubber that is seen outside of the window running along the body?

124-725-01-25 is for the window glass felt channel. The glass changed from 3mm to 4mm at chassis #B809990, or roughly the very end of 1992 USA model year. All USA-spec 1992 500E models use the thinner 3mm glass except for the last three chassis imported. All 1993-up 500E use the 4mm glass, assuming the EPC chassis break is accurate.

MB Classic shows both 3mm channels (#01 & #02) as NLA. You'd have to try to locate some NOS. I could use at least one of the #01 if anyone finds extras at a reasonable price (at €500, nope, I'll change the glass - see below).

The 4mm felt channels (#07 & #08) are both still available, and relatively inexpensive at $30-$35 each from RevParts dealers. Worst case, you could replace the glass with 4mm from any 1993-up sedan or wagon. Now that I think about it, I junked two 1994-95 cars with good glass... I should have removed the glass and kept it!

So let me make sure I understand this.
If I have a 1991 (3mm) and the only glass I have right now is a donor 1995 (4mm), does this mean I need number 8, number 11, and number 14 that are pictured in post #20?
Or just number 8?

Only #8 is different between 3mm and 4mm glass.

What's interesting is that mine is a 300D sedan and it shows the following:

My serial is after the B809990, or does the serialization start over each year?

Anyways, I have a felt channel off of a 1995 car and held it up to my 1992 (7/31/1991) car and they look identical.

Can't find any part numbers on any of these channels either, just a Mercedes logo on one of the top corners on the inside part of the seal that goes into the door's channel.

Your chassis is B587096, the chassis break is B809990, so your number is a couple hundred thousand chassis earlier than the break point.

The channel will look identical but I don't know how a wider 4mm channel will seal with 3mm glass. Probably worth a try for grins!
