Re: WTB 500E coil springs and rear sway bar

A set of 500E swaybars sold on eBay a few weeks ago. These are really hard to locate. The rear bar is NLA so you can't get a new one anymore:

Research using a W210 E55 rear bar, although I'm not certain if it will work 124's with SLS like your wagon.

You don't want 500E springs on a 6-cyl car. Trust me. Get the proper Sportline springs for the wagon, they are still available new. Yes the cost more, yes they are worth it.

Re: WTB 500E coil springs and rear sway bar

I believe springs and sway bar is available from MB. You might want to go with the AMG rear springs.

I used 500e springs on my 3.6 wagon and thought they were excellent. Much better than the brown h&r springs that they replaced.

I have a rear sway bar and springs I took off my red car. I have no idea what they are worth.

Coil springs with self leveling are NLA according to mbpartspros. They list springs 124-324-12-04 for $65. They list sway bar 123-326-24-65 for $142.

Is that what you are willing to let them go for?

If you want More aggressive options we can help, front and rear.

Ok jono I finally got around to dropping the 500e subframe into my wagon. I am installing the rear bar and am up against the well known sls mounting bracket interference issue. I know there is a spacer plate (which I have but doesnt fit the wagon bracket), and I am wondering how most people tackle this, apart from the BFH/brute force approach to massage the bracket into submission. Am I the only guy doing the feind bars in the wagon =:-O

With the larger U bolt we have and some light modifications to the bracket it works a OK! We have done 3 19mm rear bars in S124's:)

Ok I will get out the hammer. I modded the stock lever arm thingy so that part will work fine. I am measuring this bar at 22mm fyi; is there really 3mm of powdercoat on it?

Just to be clear I am in a T124 (wagon).

The bracket is no longer pristine, but the bar is in.

I think some socket cap screws would have been better. The heads on the stock bushing brackets hits the new (larger) bracket, so a socket will no longer fit. Some fender washers would be good also, and are probably mandatory with socket cap screws.

I hit the sls lever control arm bracket with a hole saw and drilled a new hole for the bolt. Fits great. doesnt see much load anyway.

Without a 500e to compare, I didnt realize that the sls valve bracket mounts to the body in a totally different location than the wagon. So the little spacer plate is useless. I think it must mount inside the body, with studs sticking through holes in the body for the bracket nuts. If anyone needs one of those little plates, let me know.

FYI on the rear swaybar upgrade, Glen's E500 post #48: OWNER - Glen (744)
