I'm a relatively new member currently smitten by the allure and legend of the 500e. I've been following the forum for a few months now, reading technical and other interesting posts, to educate myself on these fine automobiles. I'm not new to vintage, German or other performance cars, but am new to MB ownership and these cars in particular.
After fighting off extreme temptation to fly to Houston & bang on Dr. No's hanger until he appears, and offers a generous discount (to stop the annoying noise of course) for my purchase of his low-mileage example, I feel it would best if I could find an enthusiast owned & maintained, higher mileage example as an initial purchase. With that said, I'd love to hear of any mid-to-higher mileage examples that forum members may own or know about that are or could become available. I'm pretty familiar with cars currently on the public market (ie, ebay, autotrader, etc.) as I'm a chronic auto website browser of many years.
I live in the Southeastern US, but can and have traveled before for a nice car. Basically, I'm looking for the very best car that I can buy in the 10K to 12K dollar range.
Color is not determining factor. Maintenance and history are more important to me. Prefer an original paint car, but may be open to cars with minor paint work and/or minor collision issues as long as they have been properly repaired. My only requirement is that the car be an rust-free example (love those dry-state cars).
I realize that this may be a lot to ask for, but I'm in no big hurry. If one of you has thoughts of trading up to a lower mileage example, this may present an opportunity for us both.
