Stephan,

Did the PO polish it more than he changed the oil & filters?

I know you will fix it the right way whatever it takes.

Take Care

Great write up Stefan! This car is definitely in the right hands now. One thing you can take up on the to do list, replace the silver hose of the alternator wiring harness. The original is NLA but you can find it easy on eBay for cheap, carburetor pre heater hose, diameter should be 40mm iirc. Just measure the flange where it plugs on. See below how it looks "factory" :
P.S you can find the stickers for the sls oil reservoir (also something to flush and exchange the oil filter) and for the valve play adjustment above the head lights and the high voltage sticker for the air filter housing in ebay too...ebay user name: mdeijkers dutch guy

hey man
Thaaank you for super nice words.I apreaciate you saying 2the car is in the right hands..i take that as a compliment.:)

Thank you for tips also...will follow up that heat shield hose,,,and i thought i was gonna replace it with actually the part you suggested.

And the SLS reservoar is beeing replaced..:)

By the way..do you know what function the sensor in the air filter box..has..?the metal sensor...is it a air mass sensor of some kind?i know the other one is inlet air temp sensor..same as on the 500 n such..

AND...is there a special 02 sensor for these cars?

You are welcome, if you need any info on these engines don't hesitate to ask. Many things to know (also to safe money) valve play checking and adjustment is another topic. Valve shims you can get from older kawasaki bikes in a greater thickness range and for less than from mb. 13mm diameter type...
To your question: you have a air temp sensor for the cis-e as well the metal one is for the ezl. It's a unique thing on the 16v,the ezl will switch to a more aggressive ignition map if intake temp is below 25C.
O2 sensor is a regular narrow band unit from bosch. Often as written before the cis-e needs attention on the air meter potentiometer.

Keep up the good work!

thank you so much for reply
Engine sounds great..but WILL check the valve play when i replace the cam cover gasket.it is not toooo RATTLY sounding..ive heard worse..and its not QUIET either..as THAT would be critical :)
oh ..thats what the sensor is for...so i guess not "super" critical then...even though i am sorting mine out..have to connect it..but my local mb parts guys struggle to find connector n stuff on the EPC..but will sort it out at ssome point i guess :)

Everything works fine really ..but i KNOW the 02 sensor is gone...and the connector on the air temp sensor thingy...and i need to have a new ICV :)appart from that ..its running pretty good :)

A little moood picture of the Blackbeauty and littlebrother :)

61.jpg

Hope you like..i shure do
Looking forward to the weekend and spending hours and hours cleaning both 500e and the EvoLtwin:)Hopefully i will get the new ICV and 02 sensor for the Evo tomorrow..so i have something technical to do ,and not JUST detailing :)

hey there
Here is a little update..not on the 500e..as no news or no new parts has arrived :)
But done alot of work on the evo..and i thought i would share it with you :)
First of all,my new Bosch 02 sensor, and ICV has arrived. The 02 sensor..IS actually an original Mercedes part...but the mercedes logo grinded away.
Here is the parts numbers
63.jpg

New ICV valve mounted
64.jpg

Did have a hard time taking out the old 02 sensor...no need to explain any further..look at the pics :)

65.jpg

Re Threading the 02 sensor hole
66.jpg

mounted the new 02 sensor:)

67.jpg

Doing some duty cycle testing. After fixing the "idle" issue...or "idle" components...the car still strugles abit on the duty cycle of 50% percent. But im on it.Here is a pic of the duty cycle testing

68.jpg

Fixing some wires temporarly as i have not gotten the new connector..and my parts people struggle to find the connector pins,so i decided to at least get the wires FAR away from beeing in this kind off state..look....>>>
69.jpg

Soldered some new connectors, that i made to fit in the sensor..

70.jpg

ended up like this..not perfect..but at least connected..and alot better than before :)

71.jpg

Heat shield for the generator wiring was totaallly not nice looking.so i had to replace it ,and went for Gates "aluminum pre heater hose thingys.works quite well.

old one
72.jpg

New and old :)
73.jpg

New heat shield mounted.
I also cleaned up the wiring inside..and cleaned up the protective housing on the back of the generator. There was alot of debris from the old deterioating heat shield hose collected down in that protective housing.

74.jpg

Overview ;)
75.jpg

Because of "running """"ISSUE"...not reaaally an issue..but not running perfect..having some small stalling issues coming to a holt...i decided to go along and checking the CIS injectors...turned out to be baaadly worn.Just pissing out the fuel...basically.abit of spray pattern..but also dripping while spraying..so they are gone in the bin..and new ones ordered :)

76.jpg

Old ones
77.jpg

Also did a leak test on the fuel distributor head...to see if it was leaking inside when fuel pump running. There was abit of leaking..but very little..so i do not think its that bad.was only one drip every 15 sec or so..on two of the injector lines.

78.jpg

final doings after doing the 6th oil change, and putting on a new drain plug, had to wash of the bottom engine cover

Before
79.jpg

After
80.jpg

Mounted it up

81.jpg

Final mood picture..and the "Evolittle" is happy ,even though not all well..but its getting there..and him and me have a plan :)

82.jpg

Hope you liked it
Thanx for looking :)

hey there people :)
A little update for you. This time its the "EvoLtwin" which has been upgraded abit
I decided to do a bit of refurbishing on the gearshift surround.and repair the left Electric window switch...
The surround was badly cracked and not looking good...and ive never liked it beeing out of wood in a car like the 190e 2.5 16...so i went down the "carbon fibre" route..
Not perfect executed..but miles better than it was.and it was just a try out project.

104.jpg

106.jpg

Old switch,worn out lettering
108.jpg

replaced the old top plastic buttons.and transferred them over to my old working switch.

110.jpg

Done..and mounted in the car :) pretty happy with it for now :)
112.jpg

Freshly arrived parts :)
Spark plugs, injectors,injector sleeves,injector seals,Rotor,distributor cap,ECU temp sensor,

114.jpg

Old complete injectors out :)
116.jpg

Mounted the new injectors, with new sleeves and seals.
118.jpg

Cleaned up and freshend up some of the breather hoses...luckily they are super soft, and not in need of replacement.
120.jpg

And then...waiting for some paint to dry...i went out for a 4 hour drive in my #blackbeauty"
Suuuuper nice drive..and i am so in love with my 500e.its super smooth to drive...works flawlessly!!! happy :)
Also got some pics of an old " World War 2 memorial site...The place you see pictures of..was were Zeee Germaans tried to take over this part of the country, and there was this big battle down in this "valley"...please read :)

122.jpg

124.jpg

125.jpg

126.jpg

128.jpg

130.jpg

And then back to the garage..mounting up the rest of the injectors,,,the injector holders i painted in my "signature" GOLD..as you know...i LOVE that color :)

132.jpg

134.jpg

Still have left to receive some more parts before i do the rest of the injection system.BUT what i can say..is that the car ran MUCH smoother with the new injectors and seals!!! so progress is made :)

Hope you liked the pics

Thanx for looking :)

hehe thanx my friend.
No i will not give it away,,if he gets a new home...someone will have to pay me a good amount of money, cake and food for me to let the car go ...:)

But no plans of selling yet :)

Hoi Hoi
A little update video for you guys.
This time luckily ..a little of my 500e too :):)
I have not converted to the w201 world,fully :)

The throttle body only has 2 switches, no potentiometer. Center pin is ground and one of the outer is for idle contact the other one is wot contact. In between they are all open. And yes the issue that the car stalls while coming to a traffic light is related to the potentiometer in the air flow meter...

hey there
Oh..so the throttle body is not a potentiometer...?i was abit unsure of that one.i did check for closed..and full throtle function..and it does seem to be allright though..but i think i remember it beeing a glitch there..

anyways..replacing it..as i feel the throttle plate is sticking abit

BUT...i i found out that the hall sender unit in the instrument cluster can cause this stalling too?as the ECU needs the vehicle speed signal..and if the sender unit is faulty...the ECU will not know if the car is moving or not..
Cause the engine will NOT stall what so ever when the car is stationary..?..just when driving..and coming to a stop..

But i did order a hall sender unit for the instrument cluster yesterday..as i just want to replace it as a preventative maintenance anyways.

thank you very much for input :)apreaciate it :)

Stefan,

Consider what I did on the C126 fuel lines, a common heat and age failure resulting in plenty of fires. On an old set of lines, the hose can be removed from the fittings, and fuel pressure injection rated hose attached with rolled edge hose clamps that wont cut into the rubber. You can do a similar covering for heat with shrink tube, or the same sheath material on the PS pressure hoses (not metal like the 500e) which is black plastic.

Thx, you need basically to check the throttle switches, especially idle contact and the second switch for fuel cut off, that's the white one on the throttle linkage. Sometimes they stick in closed position or don't close dye to a bend leaf spring - the thing which actually presses the small push button switch. And as said the usual culprit airflow potentiometer

yeah im getting pretty formiliar with the different switches n connectors now
But idle contact switch?which one is that?cause i thought the white one was the idle contact ?

i know that one works.but there is alot of small details needing to be sorted.
So i have a list...and im getting there
Today i have started to sort out the rev counter..as there was an aditional wire connected from the x11 diag conector..and straight to the instrument cluster rev counter.
Took that off..and found the original wiring..and connected that to the rev counter..but then the rev counter did not work..
So i have done some massive faultfinding today...got hold of the original mercedes wiring diagrams...and i have been able to isolate the problem
The rev counter misses the ignition rev signal from the FPR(fuel pump relay)--every other wire on the rec counter circuit is allright.
So im putting up a new wire from the FPR to the Rev counter tomorrow.

puuhh..that was a long explanation :)

The wires for the Rev meter is combined on the left inner Fender beside the round diagnose socket. Maybe the original was damaged or removed? Cable color is green/yellow

hehe yeah..i know. There are two green/yellow wires..one goes from x11 to EZL,,and the other one goes to the FPR relay, and that is connected to the Klima relay, and rev counter, and the ECU..
But the wire between FPR and rev counter is broken,,the rev counter is connected to the FPR relay, and there is my problem.

So but i will connect a new wire..or i will tear it appart in the battey area to check if i can spot the break in the wire..most likely it will be in this area where its broken..most likely.

thank you for reply :)

A little update on the EvoLtwin:)

I finally got my connector and connector pin for the EZL inlet temp sensor.Soldered on the connectors...put some Mercedes Fibre tape on top, before putting the pins inside the new conector housing
Pretty happy with the result..even though not finished ,still have to tape up the rest of the wiring in that area to have a perfect matching wire "look"

263.jpg

265.jpg
267.jpg

269.jpg

271.jpg

272.jpg

274.jpg

276.jpg

Got a partsscore here the other day
"new" airflowmeter, and injector fuel lines. The fuel lines was the reason i got all of that stuff,,as it was sold as a complete "package" which was just a good thing..cause now i can restore a complete airflow meter unit and fuel distributor,,,BUT i now also have 4 proper fuel lines to the injectors..looking oh so tidy :)

278.jpg

280.jpg

282.jpg

284.jpg

"New"injector fuel lines :)
286.jpg

Getting there now, still a long way to go though ,but i see the light in the tunnel :)
287.jpg

I have also repaired my rev counter. There was put on an external wire...going from the x11 connector..and straight to the rev counter..making me think the original wiring was broke..and indeed i was right...after disconnecting the "blue" external wire..and at last finding the missing "rest" of the original wire..it was still not working..so i went on a faultfinding mission..and i will post a video of my interesting find :)

Not very nice looking...

289.jpg

Here is how it looked before i fixed it..
291.jpg

Fantastic repair=huuuh..??.hehe
293.jpg

Soldered on the original wire

Hey there people :)
A little update on the EvoLtwin ,of the weekend doings :)

Been cleaning up the engine bay even more.Took out the headlights..which by the way is beeing replaced at a later point.
There was a lot of sand build up behind the headlights..because the car has ran withouth inner fender liners for a while. So i had to get that cleaned up,,,,
I also checked the wiring to the headlights..and ground points while i was at it.
Just some from start to "finish "pics comin up :)No need to explain every picture i reckon :)

15.jpg

17.jpg

Cleaned up:)
20.jpg
Cleaned up :)
22.jpg

Obviously did both sides..but forgot to take a picture of the other side after i was done..so thats how it is :)

I also got hold of a new SLS/ASD reservoar, which was actually in stock..as it was a part that was ordered by another dude, but it was not the right one for his car..
And actually it was not for my car either..as there is TWO connections on the top connector on mine.but this one had just one.
But i managed to use the old top connector ,and i put that on the new filter and dip stick...as you can see in the pics
I also got to paint the reservoar bracket, and give the underside of the reservoar a good clean.

24.jpg

25.jpg

27.jpg

Here you can see old and new parts of the reservoar.
I fitted the new filter and dipstick to the OLD connector ,and i also replaced the feed hose and clamps

28.jpg

30.jpg

33.jpg

32.jpg

Here is the bracket in all its dirty glory:)
35.jpg

Painted it
36.jpg

Put 3M foil on it where the spring clamp fastens the reservoar to the bracket,so it wont scratch the paint.
38.jpg

Mounted up and ready to go in the car
39.jpg

Obviously the old fluid was disposed..:)so new fluid and a flush was in its place:)
Did just flush the ASD..as the SLS system is removed ,the cars runs Bilstein B8 sports, and HR60 springs
42.jpg

Looks alot better now i think..
44.jpg

Cleaaan ..how i like it :)
46.jpg

I also mounted my new Bonnet pad,But,unfortunatly,,i ran out of spray glue..so i missed a couple of spots,,but i will sort that later
48.jpg

A little detail...i painted the UGLY blue washer fluid reservoar cover,Black.I had some plastic paint laying around, and seems to hold up pretty good..at least til i can sort myself out with a white original one :)
50.jpg

A final picture...with its new face.NO yellow fog lights..and sits nicely on its big brothers side :)

52.jpg

Hope you liked the pics.Cheers :)

Also
I was out for a loooong drive in my 500e today ..and it was just suuuuuuper smooth and enjoyable as always
Here is some pics :)

53.jpg

55.jpg

58.jpg

and at the end of the trip..the phone rang...and it was from a delivery company..and they had a package for me:) i rushed back home..and received this :)

60.jpg

Had been wanting another steering wheel for a looong time..even though this was not the "perfect" one...but i got it suuuuuper cheap of of ebay..and i couldnt resist.
And i obviously had to put it in the car straight away..after cleaning the hell out of it...:)Not perfect condition, and no AMG version..but still a nice little upgrade

61.jpg

Hope you like it :)

a video update for you .

Hope you like it :)

There is also a little philosophical babble session in the end, which i just had to get off my chest ..hope you can relate to it.cheers:)

Got this new original OVP relay...and also got original new FP Relay

117.jpg

119.jpg

Decided to do oilchange/flush on the gearbox..and booy was it good thing that i did just that.It was black as coffee...and just felt good getting some fresh oil in there :)

121.jpg

122.jpg

Did finally get to sort out the dissy cap..and rotor..and inspecting the dissy..
Oil leak from the shaft..but i think it is over a loonger period of time. But will watch it like a hawk ;(

123.jpg

125.jpg

Cleaned up the plastic cover and fitted to the new cap
127.jpg

oil leak...of course i cleaned it proper..and also cleaned the dust/spark shield.
128.jpg

New rubber "seals" for the inner fender liners
130.jpg

New inner boot lid panel thingy...between the tail lights..

Brackets removed for painting
138.jpg

Pretty stoked with the result
140.jpg

Also did the strut fasteners
141.jpg

A little overview
144.jpg

Haaaaad to go out for a drive...and fill up the tank with fresh fuel..and just to double check the result in the faultfinding.and i must say the car and engine drives suuuper nice now..no stalling..no misfire..no deadspots..just awesome.gotta take care of the diff though...clunking sounds :( but thats at a later stage :)

145.jpg

and today..ive started alittle thing
Measuring the valve clearance..and refurbishing the cam cover.REALLY looking forward getting that done :)
147.jpg

Can someone give me a suggestion..on WHY some of the lobes are "black"....i got abit nervouse..can it be either to tight or to loose valve clearance..that makes em go black?
150.jpg

Paint remover...abit of brake fluid..and a tiny bit of sandblasting. But still not done..will do abit more with the brakefluid to get of the rest of the paint
151.jpg

Hope you liked the pics..
Cheers :)

Hey people :)just a EvolTwin update :)
I got a niiiiice upgrade done today..and i am soooo excited to say the least :)
I have always been a fan of Ford Rs cars...and motorsports...and...always been into Cosworths.Having owned 6 of them..And the OZ magnesium motorsport wheels we all have seen on the Ford Rally cars....i am a SUPER big fan of.
Having owned quite some sets of these over the years, both in standard fitment..AND 19 inch centerlock versions...i am finally about to fit a set of my favourite wheel all time..to my EvoLtwin :)

So ..it all starts with these :)
158.jpg

160.jpg

You add these :)
162.jpg

164.jpg

You then take of your old wheels :)

166.jpg

And then you end up with this lovely looking thing :)Sorry..im just soooo over the moon excited :)Hope you dont mind abit more than one or two pics :)

Best choice you could make with these wheels. Thumps up... But as said earlier - the car is in the right hands with you.

thaaank you mate :)that means alot :)

yeah the wheels are spot on..and like i mentioned..they are my favourite wheel all time..and im so glad to get both car and wheel in sweeeet harmony :)hehe

WEEEELLLLLL
HERE is the update that i have been waaaaiting to do for a loooooong time :)
I finally got my new wheels for the Blackbeauty :)And i want to thank Mercepor for beeing such a cool man,,,a straight up honest cool person to deal with.Cheers :)

been waiting almost two months..and i couldnt even wait for the shipping company to bring the wheels to where i work..so i went out in my lunchtime,to pick them up..as they could not deliver them until monday :)so here it is :) hopefully you dont mind there is a lot of pics.
Safely packed up :)
188.jpg

189.jpg

191.jpg

Wanted gold/nickel plated bolts, because of my other gold theme going on the car...in person..i actually think it is abit to much..but hopefully it will be better when tires go on the wheels..and then again on the car.Dare to be different i say :)looks to be original OZ bolts aswell :)
193.jpg

196.jpg

199.jpg

198.jpg

Started to put my touch to the wheels already.Modified OZ centercap stickers..that i ordered in a certain size..to fit on the rim lip.I feel that i have seen this beeing original somewhere?but..anyways..i feel that it suits the rim :)
201.jpg

thank you for looking :)

2 awesome sets of wheels! You make me want to change mine now too! The 190 wheels really look great and sort of pay homage to the 15 hole MB rims in their design

Nice rims, yes the OZ stickers where original on the lips of the rims when new.
Have a similar rim (made for Thorsten's company by compomotive-the exact DTM shape replica) since a few years waiting in the basement. Also my dtm cars will get those, but as center lock version of course.

thanx mate :)

yeah they definetly are a reminder of the 15hole wheels..when i think about it..there was alot of these kinds of designs...back in the 80"s...heh..Ford Granada/Scorpio Ghia had similar design...the GRANADA...had similar design..mercedes had the 15 hole..plus plus plus..

Awesome wheels i agree.
thanx :)

Beautiful Stefan, how about some photos of both rims from the inside, so we can see where they are made?

In the end..pretty happy with the result..even the tire size..abit to stretchy...on the limit of what i would like to see..but glad it wasnt toooo baloonie:)
Hope they drive well.
The gold finish..and the size of the wheels does take some time to get used to..as they are also on the verge of beeing toooo blingy..but i just had to go that route to make the wheels and car stand out abit..and staying true to my "goldish" theme..and "Hammer" ish look that i set my mind to :)
But overall...pretty stoked :)
Hope you liked the pics
Thanx :)

Amazing! I pretty strongly think about to go for such a set up as well since I m in progress of de-face-lifting my car to delivery spec together with the 6.0 conversion. Since my side claddings and bumpers are also painted in body color your car is pretty much looking what I have in mind. I have to try if the brakes fit under the 18" multi piece aero rims (r129) in the same color scheme or revert to the SA brake setup?!
Anyhow great achievement and the tires are top notch. When they get into operating temperature they are really sticky. Please do a full side view too. Also would be cool both cars facing each other, one a bit more in the front and one a bit more back. With the right background for sure amazing...

Did you put 225/45 and 255/40x17 on the 500E, or on the 190E? IMO 245/45 and 275/40 would be correct for the 500E.

yes i put 225 255 on the 500e,and the 245 275 would be the correct size if you are going for the EXCACT same circumference like the original tires..and if you are going for BALLOON size tires,
I dont want that for my car.i want a thing in between..thats why i went down on the width abit..
I had a drive yesterday..and its drives superb..so tiresizewise im pretty happy...to be honest..the stretch on the tirewall is aaaalmost abit to much for my liking...but id rather have abit more stretch..than the tall sidewall you get with the 245 and 275 :)
