Amazing! I pretty strongly think about to go for such a set up as well since I m in progress of de-face-lifting my car to delivery spec together with the 6.0 conversion. Since my side claddings and bumpers are also painted in body color your car is pretty much looking what I have in mind. I have to try if the brakes fit under the 18" multi piece aero rims (r129) in the same color scheme or revert to the SA brake setup?!
Anyhow great achievement and the tires are top notch. When they get into operating temperature they are really sticky. Please do a full side view too. Also would be cool both cars facing each other, one a bit more in the front and one a bit more back. With the right background for sure amazing...

hey mate
thaaank you for commenting .im glad you liked it.
i got some side view pics for you yesterday..and ill try an upload them today :)

so you are defacelifting your car?thaaat i can like..really want to do that myself..but at the moment cant be bothered with that whole job...takes alot
Are you going for the "two tone" look also once again..or are you leaving the sacco panels painted as is?

Yes, used original pre facelift bonnet and trunk lid are quite cheap now so got a good set of these (OK you have to search a bit until you get proper ones). Why used? Because only the factory installed parts have the original seam seal which the spare part new panels not have. Since it must be original, it can only be done by a good original used part. For the color of the side claddings I'm not so sure yet. I like the full body color style as well as the original look. Let's see, either fully 199 (as it is now) or in contrast color as below. I like especially the contrast of the amber indicators to the full body colored car.

yes i put 225 255 on the 500e,and the 245 275 would be the correct size if you are going for the EXCACT same circumference like the original tires..and if you are going for BALLOON size tires,
245/275 are not "balloon" size. 255/285 might be considered to be a little balloon-y, as seen in the attached photo. 225/255 isn't "in between" unless you are comparing to a massive stretch on the narrow side.

Personally, I want the tire to extend past the wheel lip, so the tire will be the first thing to contact a curb or any other fixed item. Most mfr's show a 10.0 wheel as the maximum recommended for a 255 tire, and for the 225 front the usual maximum is 8.0 in which case you are stretching beyond the tire manufacturer's recommendations. Not to mention you have 25" diameter tires on a car designed for 26"... besides not filling out the fenders fully, your speedometer / odometer will be off by ±4% or so.

What you consider "balloons" most other folks consider "correct"... to each his own, yadda x3...

you are right all the way. i am wrong..i havent checked anything when it comes to the tire sizes..and yes they are long way above 4 percent off on the speedometer reading..and the wheels were never recomended with 255 and 225....so its all fucked up :)

and yes..the outer rings on my wheels will hit every curb and all before the tires doooo...so im screwed now

"

I know, I know. Very sorry to break the terrible news. Remember not to shoot the messenger. I guess you'll have to sell the whole car for a loss now. My condolences...

:starwars:

yes this was beyond bad news..i did not honestly know beforehand...real bummer

and that i feel that the 275 are balloony tires..that was just a joke..cause they are not really...it just a opinion..and i guess my opinion is wrong ..so its a sad day today.really

lowman, your new AMG wheels look really nice. I have same wheels as you have. I have to say that black center piece in wheels make them look smaller than actually wheel is. Before I refurbish my Aeros I was thinking to paint wheel centers to match body colour but then I got tip that black center's make wheel look smaller and then I decided to paint them silver/gunmetal.

And what comes to wheel widths I have 205 mounted in 9" rim in front while rears are 245 @ 10". I do agree that front look too streched and awful but the front tires were free to mee so I coudn't resist. Next round will be more conservative ;)

Sorry for OT

A little big update on the EvoLtwin :)

Finally got my camcover back from my engine builder. He did powdercoat the camcover..and machine the writing on top of it..and i have to say im suuuuper pleased.

Obviously new parts for fitting the cam cover

295.jpg

296.jpg

Nothing gets mounted back in without it beeing cleaned even on the backside of the part where you cant normally see.Its all in the details :)

298.jpg

300.jpg

And finally...im pretty much done..at least 90percent done.Still quite alot of small detailing work left..but the main things are now done
Hope you like it as much as i am..cause im quite pleased with how it has turned out from when i started..til now.

Stephan,

Wow! That engine compartment is really looking good. That PC valve cover did the job.

hey there my friend.Thaaank you soooo much .im glad you liked it
yeah..it really did the trick..though there are some other tricks in there aswell that adds to the final "product"

thaanx :)

the 18 inch monoblocks are back on the car....the 3 piece wheels are leaking air :( ... both rear ones...so thats abit shitty :(

So the tirechoice WAS wrong after all....Even the tires WANT to come off themselves..:D

D'OH!!! For the air leak, will the shop that refinished the wheels fix it at no cost? Sounds like they messed up.

Well i bought them of of a gentleman in here...and i havent told him yet..as i just found out...cars been sitting ..after the one drive i had with the new wheels..and i forgot to let him know...hopefully something will be sorted out..was a bit sad to see that it was not perfect..but apart from that..a great deal and all.
:)

hey again people

got some new photos of the cars.
First of all .went out for a drive on friday night...in the EvoLtwin :)
338.jpg

and today i was out in my 500e :)watchin the ships come in :)
340.jpg

and i went back to do a complete wheel alignment on the EvoLtwin. The values are abit off..i cant adjust the front camber to specs..so i have to come up with something there. ( the picture you see is not the final values though..just an "in the moment" picture :)
I also struggle abit with the right hand side front wheel not sitting in the same position as the left hand side front wheel..the right hand side is tucked abit more into the wheel well..than the left hand side...buggs me like hell...afraid that the car is uneven in the frame...or ..i know its not..but i cant figure out why...apart from i know that i have seen that "thing" before...with the wheels are kinda "not " centered from side to side...sorry for poor explanation :)But i will sort it out .or if you have any suggestion..i would apreaciate it :)

values
345.jpg

Hooked up
347.jpg

348.jpg

Also fitted the "holder" for the sparkplug leads to the cam cover
350.jpg

353.jpg

And finally...two "mood" pictures of my evo and 500e

352.jpg

This picture is for Rouven :)

357.jpg

Hope you liked the pics:)thanx for looking :)

thank you so much for kind words.Im glad you like that picture..cause i have to say i was pretty happy with it myself..apart from thatn Peugeot you can see abit of on the left there..the picture is pretty much spot on :)

A tiny big update on the yesterday and today"s doings on the EvoLtwin :)

Got some new parts ,and i have done some repairs and preventative maintenance as well..so here goes..hope you dont mind the amount of pictures :)

First of all...this box came in
1.jpg

And it contained this little box inside :)
2.jpg

Finally opened them up..and found this inside ;)
6.jpg

And vooila :)A nice sparkplug cover made in carbon, and the AMG logo on it.:)
4.jpg

5.jpg

Then i got myself a new left taillight..as the old one was cracked on the side, and the right one was mint

9.jpg

Comparing
8.jpg

Cleaned the new one
11.jpg

I had to remove both..to clean up the panels behind the taillight..even though the car is painted 6 months ago.
13.jpg

Fitted the new one :)
15.jpg

My only problem now..was that the two taillights are a tiny bit different in color..so luckily ..i went back to the guy i bought it from and asked if he by any chance had the right one too..and he did :)..so that taillight is now on its way from the states :)

I also received some new stickers to put around the car..these are the technical stickers with tech info on them..and warnings
Super nice way of detailing your car
17.jpg

22.jpg

19.jpg

20.jpg

Then it was time to really do some repairing work
I have been wanting to fix the notorious lap timer display, and i received the new LCD display for the lap timer, and for the outside temp gauge in the cluster.

Loosen the two screws under the ashtray..i guess there are two screws missing on my car...as you can see on the wholes abit on the upper side of the ashtray
21.jpg

Take out the whole assembly, disconnect the wiring on the back of the clocks, and remove them
27.jpg

24.jpg

Carefully pry off the metal surrond..you have to take your time..and not rush it.Do more prying on the side where you can see there is a lip on the plastic mainbody of the clock..these are the ones that hold most of the plastic housing IN the metal surround.

25.jpg

Just a note...be carefull with these pins when putting it back together.you do not want to miss the female contact in the other part of the clock
26.jpg

Unscrew these two screws..
34.jpg

Do not loose the screws or the fiber washers
29.jpg

Carefully lift the print plate away from the main body
30.jpg

This is how it looks
31.jpg

for some reason i forgot to take a picture of the LCD screen itself, for the lap timer.
But this is the old one
32.jpg

Put everything back in the reverse order. My tip is to be very meticilous when doing this job..the lcd display also has to face a certain way, which is very nicely described in the paper sheet coming with the kit.
I also installed new bulbs in all clocks before putting it back in the car for testing
33.jpg

Time for testing..and VOILAAA! its alive :)happy happy happy times :)
38.jpg

And now...i continue doing the outside temp gauge in the cluster.
Remove the cluster from the car,
36.jpg

Remove these two screws..and you can pull the clock unit out of the cluster..the wires are abit old and stiff..so i did not get to pull the whole clock out,so i just pulled it as far as i could.,There was enough room to do the work
37.jpg

OLD BLACK faulty LCD display
41.jpg

Unscrew the two small screws holding the outer portion of the clock..down towards the screen
This is the part you want to come off
40.jpg

AGAIN,,,be very careful when taking it apart..and observe every position of the different components in there..and put em back in the same place when mounting it back in there.
45.jpg

the old screen and sealer paper bit
43.jpg

Notice there is a TAB on the one side of the LCD screen ..and it has to fit on the same side as the "groove" in the plastic housing..
Pay attention to this ,i try to show you here in these three pics
44.jpg

Also pay attention to the rubber side supports
46.jpg

This is the "paper sealer thingy" ...also having a "tab" on the one side...
48.jpg

And the last bit..before you can fasten this part back to the rest of the temp gauge
52.jpg

And as a preventative maintenance...i replaced ALL bulbs in the cluster
50.jpg

51.jpg

Another part i decided to replace while i was at it,is the hall unit sender which i ordered as a part of my faulfinding session on the stalling issue.
Now was the time to just replace it ,even this was not faulty,,i wanted to put my new sender in there
66.jpg

54.jpg

And cluster tested...all lights..AND the outside temp is working once again :)
55.jpg

I also fixed the broken hinge on the dash compartment ,there was just missing a nut on the one side..which made the lid ,loose
In the same go,,i saw that the dash compartment lightning did not work..so i found a loose wire..and a broken bulb.Re attached the wire..and put a new bulb in there.Good stuff :)
56.jpg

57.jpg

59.jpg

Finally..i trial fitted my new sparkplug cover. The writing was in white..which i do not understand WHY they did it this way..but i tried it..and i did not like it..so i had abit of an internal discussion with myself ,on what color to go for...either silver or gold..so you know what color it just HAD to be :)even though i may change it up abit at a later point :)
what to do now?hehe
61.jpg

This maybe :)
63.jpg

65.jpg

71.jpg

69.jpg

oh oh oh...i also fitted my brand new original headlights...though they are not bought as Mercedes,,they are brand new Hella lights(but they are actually super old, they haven been on a shelf in Germany since 1990).which is the same as my car was delivered with.
79.jpg

74.jpg

Final picture of today :)
76.jpg

thank you for looking..and i hope you liked the pics..and that they can be of any use..i hope.
cheers :)

Stephan,

Some day (just for kicks) when you have the time, put your EvoL Twin's wheels on your 500. I think they would look SMASHING on a 500.

I do like the 3 piece wheels but the EvoL Twin's better.

Just my opinion.

hey my friend
hehe thank you ..and believe me..that has been one of my intentions since i got the 500e...to put wheels like that on the car.And now i can..so believe me..i will :)soon :)the rubber is a bit "wrong" size for the 500e thought..but at least it will work to have a look on HOW it looks..and i agree with you ..i think its gonna be awesome :)!! :)

Have you installed AMG Power pack into the 2.5-16V? There are 3 Versions of this cover available...
http://jm-motorsport.se/bilder/091122/DSC_9076.JPG

One with "AMG Power" and one with "AMG Power Pack" for the 2.5-16V EVO2 cars.

hey my friend :)
No its just a replica cover from Hedgehog motorsport.made in carbon fibre.
i have only seen two versions...this one..and the one with "power pack". as a part of the power pack option that could be fitted on the Evo1 and Evo2

Would love to have an original one..but i havent found one yet..and i guess IF i found one..it will be extremely expensive..though this wasnt super cheap either .but good value for money still..as i think its a nice visual upgrade :)

AMG PowerPack for power pack equipped 2.5-16 and 2.5-16 Evolution, early version AMG Power
Early 89 evo DTM s AMG and sometimes AMG power. They have then swapped them for the standard plastic covers for weight savings since the AMG covers are made of cast aluminium. Repros are either plastic or carbon.

thanx :)
Do you have one by the way ? :)for sale ? :)

Well helloo:)
A little update on the weekends doings :)
Friday night.

130.jpg

i was actually just replacing instrument cluster in the Evoltwin...a couple of reasons for doing so.Bouncy rev counter, Badly discolored dials...but unfortunatly it is not the same instrument cluster..the new one i got is from a 90-93 model.it seems ..as it is missing the economy meter.
Also closing in on the hot start issue.narrowed it down to be a fuel related issue..and it seems that the cars fuel pressure its lacking when hot..so replacing some parts that i would replace anyways...as a preventative maintenance..and directly related to the hot start issue.fuel accumulator, check valve.and so on.

New instrument cluster...looks superfresh with its orange dials..
131.jpg

132.jpg

All works...and the bouncy rev counter issue is fixed :)
134.jpg

Just a pic of the fuel accumulator....for my information (Partsnumber)havent replaced any of the items yet.i have measured the accumulator..and it is bad.its not holding vacum
137.jpg

I also got hold of a brand spanking new EZL for the 2.5-16...suuuper deal of the year!.also fitted a brand new Bosch coil
138.jpg

141.jpg

142.jpg

144.jpg

Coil
146.jpg

147.jpg

Also was about to replace the front brake hoses..but one of them was the wrong part packed in the right bag..so ..i could only replace one.
Here is some pics of the new hose..and the bleeding tool.Just love it :)
149.jpg

150.jpg

152.jpg

154.jpg

Also started to fiddle around with my spare fuel distributor,,,i had to open it and have a look..and start to get a feel on how to "overhaul" the part.Im overhauling and checking this one..so a repair kit has been ordered. The one ON my car at the moment..does have a tiny bit of internal leak..so it will be fixed during the winter restoring season :)together with a new rebuilt inlet manifold and such.
not received the FD rebuild kit though
155.jpg

157.jpg

and today i was at a 30+ old car meeting...track day.alot of cool cars.
159.jpg

161.jpg

162.jpg

164.jpg

166.jpg

168.jpg

and last but not least..i had my friend with the Audi Rs4 on a visit in the garage.Hangin out..drinkin coffe ..talking car stuff..and just chillin.

his car is just friggin awesome! super clean..and imaculate condition..He just fitted new brakes..with floating discs..and freshly painted calipers with custom rs4 stickers with clearcoat on top.
Some group pics

172.jpg

172.jpg

And finishing off with some "out door pics " of my little sunday trip :)

Be veeery careful with the fuel distributor.... You later need to completely re-set each portion that goes to an injection valve, so there is equal amount of fuel coming into each of them. I only know a handful of guys able to do this in germany... Not the average DIY job. Just a word of caution here though ^^
I like your news about your cars. :-)

thanx my friend.and thanx for advice.
But i do not touch the plunger valve.its only replacement of the diaphragm..and o rings.
im not splitting the plunger.
What is there to adjust you mean?

and not meaning to seem like im cocky..but i would not consider myself an "average" DIY"er :) "Laughs" :)but of course no one knows everything.so info is always welcome :)

I really thought that the amount to every injector is not adjustable...and the injectors are pressure controlled ONLY..and as long as the diapgragm is in full working order...AND the plunger is clean..and all o rings tight..there shouldnt be any reason for or possibility to do more to the FD itself...though if the plunger has been sticking or whateever...that is another story.. :)

or do you mean setting the "preload" on the springs for the diaphragm?the ones on the same face as where the bolts that connects the two halves together..there are four screws (four injectors) sitting in there...hmm..

These are as far i know..NOT meant to be messed around with...so it is important to number the springs and plates for each individual "injector port" as these are adjusted with the shims.

I do know the basic setting of these pre set "valves".

But best thing is NOT to touch them :)

Finally :)
One of my plans for the car was to get a stereo inside the car..as all the original stereo has been taken out of the car.The amps ,radio unit and cd shifter has been taken out..and left me with only speakers and wires.
So i used quite some time do decide WHAT to do...and i got a hot tip from a friend of a friend of mine..to have a look at these :)
So i FINALLY got one..and it was ALSO my FIRST Ebay purchase all on my own...and the deal went smoothly..and even got the part 4 days before estimated time..so getting this surprise on a Friday..is just PERFECT

The rest of the work im getting professionally done...the install..as i am NO stereo dude..though it wouldnt be a problem doing it myself..but i cant be bothered dealing with it after spending almost 1000 hours restoring the car through the winter and spring.so..thats how it goes :)

Behold :)The high end version of the Continental "Retro" look head unit.
Orange backlighting...DAB+, USB, Cd player,,normal radio.and just the look of it i find very soothing and fitting for the w124"s "style

60.jpg

Thanx for looking :)

Hey Stephan,

Nice looking radio this is.... did you order a specefic type for the E500? I'd like to order this for my E500 too...

Mounted my new instrument cluster....nice orange color on the dials..with NO econometer though..so from a newer car.
214.jpg

In my 500e...the third brakelight had blown..so had to replace the bulb
Take off the cover...carefully bend the two lips on the side...slightly outwards..and pull the lid straight off
Replace the bulb with a new 21w bulb..and put the lid back on.be carefull when clipping it back on that you align it perfectly

215.jpg
216.jpg

and last but not least...i started cutting in my car..to make room for the wheels. The w201"s are notorious for havin small wheel wells...and my car beeing a "Evo" ...i have to make it even closer to an ORIGINAL Evo..to stop the wheels from rubbing on full lock.So now there is no turning back.Lets go :)

Nice work. Just curious, were the pistons of the brake calipers in the C-Class corroded? I mean to say where they connect with the rubber seal.

Hey there mister
Thank you very much :)
The left rear caliper were seazed yes...and that resultet in abnormal pad wear...and eventually shedded the disc in two because of too much wear.

I just used a caliper from my 190e..though that was a right hand side caliper..so actually i had a big deal bleeding that caliper when sitting on the left side..it DID NOT work to pressure bleed it..i had to take off the caliper and let the bleeding niple be sitting the correct way...UPWARDS...and then it was able to be bled.
Pretty surprised that the pressure bleeder did not do the work,,even though the niple was turning downwards..so i actually learned something new there :)

hey there people :)
Here is an update on my modification on the front wheel tubs.

First of all.just to recap how the first cutting looked like :)

3.jpg

4.jpg

Getting ready
5.jpg

Made the first panel on the outside of the wheel tub...alot of different shapes on the side there..so it was a "bit.....c...h" to make it.
6.jpg

Finally cut and fitted the bigger part of the tub.AAAALOT of work...alot more work than i imagined

7.jpg

8.jpg

So far so good.just spotwelded the panels in there..fully welding this later.
Now on to making brackets for the EVO coolant reservoar...and even later on..bracket for the EVO washer fluid tank

But here is the coolant reservoar tank brackets.
Pretty proud of these..as they are made from looking at pictures of the original Evo brackets...made my own "measurments and GUESSES".hehe

ALL starts with stuff like this :)

9.jpg

10.jpg

11.jpg

Trial fitted..had to extend the "legs" of the bracket so it extends down to the tub
12.jpg

Welded on longer "legs"
13.jpg

Thats more like it :)
14.jpg

now on to the bracket that faces towards the engine side
Started of with some cardboard..making a template...and making a drawing, and try to make it look the same as the original EVO bracket..and making measurments
15.jpg

16.jpg

Cutting out two of these..as they are a "twin" bracket
17.jpg

18.jpg

Welding on the connector/ top plate
19.jpg

And i ended up with these two lovely brackets.
