Re: FS: 1993 500E RennTECH with 50K miles

Dear Santa, for xmas I would like a bag of money to buy a car like this!

Re: FS: 1993 500E RennTECH 6.0L, Black/Black, 50kmi, $45k (Boca Raton, FL)

Folks,

This is Marco's car. Marco is a member here and owns both this car and a nice 500E. This car now has 53K miles on it and is on location at RENNtech, on consignment there. Marco also lives here in my community of The Woodlands, TX.

I have seen this car in person, several years ago. It is gorgeous and has been meticulously/enthusiast maintained. Marco and I spoke on the phone this morning. This is NOT a "must sell" situation, but rather a "would sell".

I think this price for the car is a good one, perhaps a bit low. All you guys who have been droooooooling over 6.0s ... here's your chance for a low-miles, real deal. The price on this car is not going to go down in the future, that's for sure. It's a beast.

Cheers,
Gerry

It's VIN , if I got it right, is WDBEA36E6PB919649

.... FWIW, Nick at RennTECH says it's a really nice one; he's the mechanic that did the PPi on it.

A beast tho ?! LOL This car is a sweet little kitten...in modern engine power and torque language.

As far as .036s go....IMHO ANY working six-liter car is a 'beast.'

No prior record of that VIN in my database...thanks for the info.

Is this a small cam or big cam renntech motor? 10.3 vs 11 mm of lift? Has Marco ever dyno'd the car? Any chance of getting a picture of his LH chip?

1993 MERCEDES 500 E RENNTECH FOR SALE – DOCUMENTED RENNTECH MODIFICATIONS INCLUDING 6.0 LITER MOTOR
Mercedes 500 E RENNtech For Sale
Black Pearl Metallic (199) with black leather interior, the car has just over 71,200 original miles on its odometer.

If the 500 E is the ultimate W124 sedan… this particular car might be the ultimate 500 E, thanks to its documented RENNtech modifications including (but not limited to)…
  • Bored 6.0 liter motor rated at 412 HP
  • RENNtech transmission upgrade
  • RENNtech stainless steel exhaust
  • 1st Gear transmission valve body
  • ASR Delete switch
  • Anti-Sway bars
  • RENNtech radiator
  • Performance engine oil cooler
  • Transmission cooler w/ fan
  • Limited Slip Differential
  • 13″ Alcon brakes all around
RENNtech receipts from the mid 90s add up to approximately $58,000.

In addition to these documented modifications carried out by RENNtech in 1996, this car has seen much recent maintenance. Both wiring harnesses were replaced in 2015. Much regular and preventative maintenance was heaped on this car by its owner since his acquisition in early 2015. It returned to RENNtech in 2015 for an $11,800 service with some additional upgrades. To the owners of this car, cost has never been an object.

Best of all… the driving experience of this car is amazing. The torque, the speed, the raw power is almost frightening… while at the same time, the car instills absolute confidence in the driver. It’s hard to describe. It’s well behaved, comfortable and easy to drive… but there is a beast lurking just under the surface that never fails to put a smile on your face when behind the wheel.

For a 6.0 liter engine .036 this is a very good price referring to .036 6.0 liters AMG in Germany are going for 60,000-90,000 euros.

Price is reasonable if the car checks out. Especially next to that 300E on BaT that went for $30k yesterday. :ROFLMAO:

I'm sure this car is somewhere on this forum....

Looks like there is some DDD.

Monochrome 199 paint.

Red LEDs in the instrument cluster -- wonder what those are for.

I see only two other possible matches.

Both are 1993 Renntechs with fewer than 71K miles. I don't think either are matches.

Hi guys, just created a username and password for this board to comment on this thread. over the years I’ve visited the 500E Board a few times as I’ve worked with a handful of them over the past few years. You guys have a great community here and I hope to add one of these to my collection, to really keep someday... and be a regular part of your community.

This car is sitting in my showroom. I’ve known the owner for some years now, he used to participate in my Walleye 1000 Vintage Rally each year when I lived back in Minnesota (never in this car). When he thought of selling the 500 E, he contacted me, shipped it out to my place in New York, and here we are.

I’m not sure who cut and pasted everything from my website here, instead of just posting a link... And I’m not sure where they came up with a price. There is no price. It’s just so hard to figure out “what it’s worth” or what to ask... so...

It’s in the cue to appear on BaT. After it was accepted and I paid the fee, about 10 days ago, I got an email from BaT explaining that it would be “about three weeks” before one of their guys was even assigned to put together the auction. They’re just that busy. So, it will probably be a few weeks before it appears.
I’ve taken my usual hundreds of photos, shot that walk around and will post various other videos the BaT peanut gallery expects these days.
It’s a cool car from a collection (of mostly BMWs), it’s been there since 2015. Fabulous service records, an owner who is beyond meticulous when it comes to the maintenance of all his cars, where cost is no object.

All will be revealed on BaT soon.

Hi Dave —

Welcome aboard :welcome3:

I'm not sure where the price came from -- the OP would have to answer that, as he put up the original information from your web site. Usually our members report advertised prices, and don't pull numbers out of thin air, so I'm not quite sure what the deal is with that. Perhaps you had a price posted for a short time, and then removed it from your site?

The moderators of the site did go in (after the original post was made) and clean things up to follow the standard format for titles and such, that this site has when cars come up for sale. But as far as I know, no new information other than your posted photos was added or changed when the original post was cleaned up. I'll change that price info, nonetheless.

As you can see, links to this car on both of your sites are in this thread. The reason that we "cut and paste" all info posted, and photos, is that this provides a record of all cars that come up for sale. As you know, sellers often take down their listings, Craigslist ads, eBay auctions disappear, and so forth. Even BaT, which does leave past auctions up, is not a 100% guaratee that the previous auction info won't be removed at some point -- particularly now that they have been acquired by Hearst Media. We expect to see some significant changes to BaT in the coming years as Hearst gets its corporate hooks into them.

The historical information and commentary on this site gathered over the years about individual cars is invaluable for future buyers and owners of cars, and this is a key service of this site since it was founded in 2009. As only 1,528 of these cars were imported into the US, we have identified and tracked a huge number of them here, as they have come up for sale over the years, been wrecked/decommissioned, and so forth. And this extends to non-US cars as well (AMG E60s, E500 Limiteds, and regular 500Es around the world). Several of our members also maintain private 500E databases that go back nearly 20 years, with a lot of info that isn't even on this site.

We track all 500E/E500s by VIN here, and as this site is continually indexed by Google, any VIN posted here is going to appear (sooner or later) on the Google search engine. Members also tend to post CarFax/AutoCheck reports for each car that comes up, to provide additional history and commentary.

When your BaT auction hits that site and goes live, the information at BaT will be mirrored here, and there will likely be a parallel peanut gallery here of far more knowledgeable members (not to mention 500E sticklers) than anything you will see at BaT. Not much gets past the experts and peanut-gallerists on this site. To be honest, and at least with 500E/E500 models (which is all that I generally follow at BaT), the knowledge level of E500Es among BaT members is fairly low based on the peanut gallery comments often posted there.

Guess we gotta wait for the BaT auction to get the VIN for this car, as you didn't post it on your site?

Cheers,
Gerry

My personal database notation shows record of this car in January, 2015. At that time, the car had 53,000 miles on it.

My note, as follows: This car is owned by forum member Marco, who lives in the Woodlands. It is a RENNtech 6-liter car and is currently for sale on consignment at RENNtech in Florida. Asking price is $45K. I spoke to Marco personally about it yesterday.

This thread has been combined with the previous thread RE: Marco's car.

Hi Gerry,

It seems the Gullwing Group Registry's got nothin' on the 500E Board!
That is not quite correct, but close. I believe we have detailed records on approximately 80% of all cars imported into the US. A wealth of data, for sure.

Gerry has his work cut out attaching 418 photos!! :buggin:

Bummer there is not a copy of the final invoice from RENNtech. While the car has the RENntech/Alcon brakes, it has the stock sway bar (with worn bushings), despite the sway bar appearing in the Letter to Bob. Looks clean overall though. And I can see the larger radiator & LSD tag. Wonder what those red front struts are, and what happened to the original OZ wheels. I like the old-school Orion amps in the tunk, but that may not be to everyone's taset. Photos of the underside of the engine with the splash shield removed would be nice.

:wahoo:

Photo collection will be uploaded in minutes. The stupid BaT Google "WebP" photo format isn't widely compatible, so all photos are being converted to JPG format.

I'm sure some wag or another on here will be posting a punchlist within hours.

It would be good to have Marco chime in with any thoughts he may have.

Sometimes I don't get these BAT bidders and their bidding. This is clearly a nice car with multiple verified upgrades. On an obvious reserve set auction: Why would you start bidding at hardly serious amounts like $500, or $7500 for that matter on a vehicle like this, get the hold on your credit card and then parade the peanut gallery from there? Those numbers will never get you the car. Starting bid on this should be atleast $25K as we all know if it sells, it will be well North of that. I know very little of Renntech but this example seems worth the premium those mods will bring. @Panzer82: Good luck with Auction and Sale.

Very thorough photo documentation.
I do appreciate it when sellers post paint thickness readings.
Kinda surprised to see the 2.6-2.8 mils in the middle of the big side panels.

What a place for this to end up. I am literally in Horseheads, NY, visiting. Anyone know the name of the dealership?
