I have been driving my 034 more since it gets over 20 MPG while my F150 is in the mid teens. Both get fed premium from Costco.
Yes similar to here diesel is more expensive than petrol also.
So to fill my daily driver w221's tank is pretty much 200usd at the moment. Forking nuts.
In addition to this in May the government outlawed the use of tax free red diesel for construction etc. So they have to run diggers and generators etc on the full priced road fuel. Criminal
I tend to fill up when the tank is half full now, just so my brain doesn't really go into convulsions.
I've tried to drive conservatively, under 70mph few times, and I'm seeing very little difference in MPG in any of our cars, so I gave up on trying to save anything and just went back to drive with pleasure.
I can't change it, getting mad while at the pump does not accomplish anything for me personally (other than raising my blood pressure), so I just look at the car, I move on. I'm however deeply disappointed and many things happening on many levels.

It costs over $200 to fill my truck with 38 gallons of diesel. I just pass the increase along to my customers, and I'm usually working. However, the price is deterring use of my cars. While we are on the subject, is there any harm in running regular occasionally in my E430 if I'm not loading the engine to where the knock sensors would interfere? I usually drive this car like an oldster.
Won't do any harm for most operating conditions. Just try to avoid WOT sessions and it will be just fine.
I wish it was this simple, or even that I could convince myself it's this simple ... but coaches and presidents sign up for criticism so AFAIC it comes with their pay.
The S55 topped $100 for the first time I can remember a couple days ago. I looked at the pump and had to do the math. $5.60 for premium. I still spend less for gas than ever, so I take the puts and takes, even within the car budget. The Allroad gets BJs or Costco gas, or 89 oct and a bottle of Techron.

So I guess my answer to the question is Hell No! I'm more concerned with the crowded driving range.

Today, for 13.5 gals Arco mid grade 89 oct for my KIA Optima just cost me $77.00 and another $72.00 for my Wife’s Caddy.
Premium Arco 91 oct for my 500E is $5.79 gal. I’m not driving it much.
I guess I’m lucky to live where I do. There are 2 Arco stations near me that are approximately $0.20 to $0.30 gal less for all grades. Premium at most are $5.99 to $6.09.

We have about the same gas prices as Efraim refers to in Finland. $100 per tank is way back in time here in Morepay, we passed that around 2005 (per todays exchange rates). Many people think that this is a price peak due to the stupid Russian wars, but the prices will never revert back to normal whatever that is, we'll see just a minor price drop. The green heads are doing a great job in inviting the global finances, and where the money is - the control is.
What kind of Hybrid are you driving for a $30 fillup?
This is my Hybrid -- 87 Octane, Costco Gas, Hybrid Crossover (Venza) --- I just cannot tolerate Prius-class garbage-driving-experience anymore after 15 years and two Prii so now the daily driver is a Toyota Venza AWD which is surprisingly very pleasant --- but "only" 40mpg / 400 miles per tank.
An 08 prius @ 4.80 p/g, I just dropped a 30 spot as 20 bucks before would last me more than a week
I get the numbness of the drive however, i have 3 sport type vehicles that all take 93 and boy... do they like to drink

That was at Sams Club, which has the cheapest fuel around. By far.
The good news is that she got 1168 miles from the tank.
The bad news is that I'm still waiting for the service appointment to diagnose the P0C32 codes the car throws every time its driven enough to run the battery down. Only three more weeks 'til it goes in.
For now we're charging the car outside and hoping it doesn't brick again while she's daily commuting.

If I remember correctly the last time gas went nuts was in the 80s. I just happened to own a 1972 Lincoln Continental MK IV in my favorite color Blk/Blk and it was a “Gas Hog”. Of course gas was a lot cheaper back then but wages were also a lot lower.
This car weighed 5,000 lbs had a 460 cubic inch, 7.5 liter V8 that got 11 mpg and was truly luxury and beautiful in black.
Anyway, when gas started to go up there was gas rationing with even/odd license plate days to fill up and long gas lines. I had a 55 gallon drum w/a hand pump in the back yard that I tried to keep as full a possible. I worked in construction at the time and had a one ton flatbed truck to haul plastering equipment and I had access to fuel more than most.
Needless to say, the Lincoln got parked for many years and we drove a 65 Volkswagen Bug. Finally I was forced to part with the Lincoln. I can honestly say that I really loved that car.
I can’t amagine what it would cost to run today.
PS: That’s $70.00 bucks on that pump.

Albeit at the time I loved the floaty ride (kinda like being on a cloud) today I would probably be appalled with it after owning and driving my 500E, My wife’s 2005 Caddy DeVille feels floaty to me and it’s way more in check than the Lincoln ever was.Also, the 460 cu/in V8 was down on power (210hp/342lbs tq) due to 70s increased emissions requirements which was kinda wimpy compared to the 1970 MK III which had 365hp/500lbs tq)

Yeah, a gas station near me went bankrupt during Covid, so they put a fence around the staion and froze it in time.
The price still being displayed is $1.86/gal. Regular.
Really miss being energy independent.

This was last week when I filled up my KIA with mid grade. Today when I went by the mid grade is now $5.99 gal Premium is now $6.19 gal. This is the lowest price station I can find in the OC. Most are $0.20 to $0.60 a gallon higher.

It's a straight-up, old schoolish gas station. No overpriced sugar or salt laden snacks.

Plenty of media coverage. She claims to be barely paying the bills.
Every where else... nobody seems to bat an eye when they spend $4 on a bucket of flavored sugar water while filling-up their car.
Heh. Good point! And that's where they're making the money anyway. Gas is a loss leader for places like that.
Here's one I don't understand:
In Phoenix, gas prices are about 10%-15% higher than in Flagstaff. Every drop of fuel that comes to Flagstaff is trucked in. Fuel in Phoenix comes from pipelines orginating in California or Texas. Flagstaff is a much smaller market and more competitive, but I can't imagine it's that aggressive as far as pricing is concerned.
Right now at Sam's Club in Flagstaff it's $4.59 and $4.99, respectively. In Phoenix it's $4.69 and $5.18.

If one of the countless road-trippers exploring the North Coast were to get off Highway 1 at the town of Mendocino and pulled into Schlafer’s, there’d be no food or drink in sight. They provide an oil change, new windshield wipers, basic auto repairs— the offerings of an old-fashioned gas station.
At the gas pump though, that road-tripper might be in for a surprise. Yesterday, the price of a regular gallon of gasoline–$8.62–would jettison any hint of nostalgia Schlafer’s might have conjured.
For the second day in a row, Schlafer’s Autobody and Repair has the unique designation as the most expensive gas station in the United State of America. GasBuddy’s Petroleum Analysis Head Patrick De Haan confirmed yesterday after reviewing GasBuddy’s real-time gas price data from around the nation that the Mendocino Coast gas station is the most expensive.
Just to paint a more vivid picture, let’s consider some of the more common vehicles on the road and the cost to fuel them if at Schlafer’s. A 1997 Toyota Corolla would cost $113.78 to fill up from empty. A 2016 Toyota RAV4 SUV would cost $137.05 cents to fill its tank. A 2018 Toyota Tacoma would cost $181.88 to fill.
Schlafer has lived and breathed her gas station since 1968 when she married the shop’s namesake. In 2004, she took on the task of running the station alone and told us she has had nine days off since then.
When we asked her what it was like to have the most expensive gas in America, Schlafer matter of factly said, “I have no choice. I have to do what I’m doing.”
Schlafer went on to explain that her gas station is independently operated rather than a franchise. Her station does not sell food or drinks, often the profit centers of franchised gas stations, Schlafer told us, which requires her to make up the income in her gas prices.
Schlafer criticized the media for framing her attempts to make a profit as anything but good business practices. Referring to her prices, she said “It is what it is, I’ve got to pay for my next load of gas.”
Empathizing with her customers, Schlafer said her pocketbook is also hurting. “Gas prices are blowing my mind. I am buying the fuel, too.”
When asked what she thinks is happening that would cause gasoline prices to skyrocket, she said, “What I think is going on is they are keeping people busy with this. They want to take us over. They want this one world bull****. It’s all a big game.” She also added that she had no idea why “anyone would vote for that Newsom fella.”
Speaking of California State Governor Gavin Newsom, he told Californians in his State of the State speech on Tuesday evening that he would be “submitting a proposal to put money back in the pockets of Californians to address rising gas prices.” The specifics of the proposal have yet to be announced.

Fuel prices are all over the place here. No reasoning to it.
One day petrol is £1.65 per litre and the next day they all jump to £1.89. Then a few days later might "fall" near 1.65 again before rocketing back up.
It's clear here at least that the filling stations and fuel distributors just make it up as they go along and the customer always gets screwed. My S320 w221 burns £50 of diesel every couple of days.
