1950 Mercedes Benz Racecar Transporter (Jay Leno's Garage)

That's actually a close recreation, the original was scrapped in 1967, about a nanosecond later they regretted the decision. And the original was not a 1950, it was built around 55 or so. Used a 300SL Gullwing engine. Jay's vehicle uses a M104 I think. CMC made/make a nice 1/18 model, somewhat expensive but very nice and well worth the money.
The MB Museum has a closer replica BTW.

Jay's replica uses a 4-cylinder MB truck engine of some sort - they show it in the video around 15:13, looks like it has - gasp - a carburetor. Jay also points out at 5:00 that it says "Repl." on the door indicating it's a replica, "not trying to pass it off as the real thing".

He also explains the part about MB squishing the original, and then spending ±$2M to build the replica currently in the museum.

I think he scratched his multi-million dollar gull wing on the way down off the truck!!! I will say this, my respect for this guy increases with every one of his videos. This video is a total love letter to gear heads and feels like he is giving me a personal tour of his prized truck. The internet is the perfect medium for this. A commercial free tour of vehicle and time limits be damned. I'd love to see this type of thing for everyone one of the cars in his collection.

That looks like an M102 4-cyl with a carb.

Super cool truck, but I can't imagine driving around anywhere. There is so much front overhang I don't know how you'd ever get into parking lots, much less hills or driveways. It looks like it's almost scraping the ground just driving down the level road going over bumps.

Having the 'hood/access door' in the front makes it look quite a bit different from the original.

I just saw the MB recreation in the Museum this past Tuesday [emoji4][emoji106]
