Nice looking car, bummer it didn't get 500E front fenders during the build. 500E headlights and correct wipers would have been a nice touch as well. There's some detailed threads on the build over at BenzWorld.

Sold for $82k all in? !!!!!!!! After the top 2 bidders...

#3 bailed at $34k
#4 bailed at $30k
#5 bailed at $25k

Almost smells like shilling to me.

Dave, with all due respect, what's the point of shilling to over 2x the bid?
This car didn't appeal to me but I can see where some would want it. "Restomods" do appeal to a wide audience.
I guess we'll see if it comes back up in the near future.

How much would it take for, e.g., Blue Ridge to build a car like this to your exact specifications? I am totally ignorant about these things, but I have to believe it's less than $82K (including a relatively small amount to purchase a decent car to start with). If I'm right, why the premium? I can see paying a premium for things like a pre-merger AMG, a RENNtech car, etc. But does this car have pedigree that is worth paying for? I confess I haven't read the comments in the auction (in the immortal words of Abraham Lincoln, "ain't no one got time for that."), so forgive me if it has already been covered.

But, at the end of the day, it looks like an amazing car and I hope the buyer enjoys it.

It would only make sense if the "winner" wasn't actually buying, and they wanted to see what it would bid to. That said, on closer inspection the buyer has a decent history on BaT so it appears legit. Crazy, but legit.

Melville, I think Blue Ridge could duplicate the car for less... possibly enough less that you'd have enough $$$ left over to pick up a nice W211 AMG. Most of the work is in the widebody rear fenders, up front you just bolt on 036 parts. Makes me wonder if you could buy 036 rear fenders to weld on (of course, the flares are more pronounced on this custom build). The engine, well, standalone EFI has come a long way in the past decade...

:spend:

The thing is the car was done and had a verified story/history since new.

A single turbo bandit set up on a M103/M104 EFI or a super turbo 606 would be the 2019 method of building a fast old Merc w124.

It is incredibly hard to find a clean coupe these days so sure you can build a car for less if by miracle of miracles you happen to have a clean donor car ready to go....

Some of the coupe specific pieces are impossible to find. Dave Hendy was commenting the door locks which are coupe specific are NLA this weekend. This the same way with some seat parts and rear trims.
