1992 400E windshield filter strip - what is the proper colour?

Good day everyone

I'm somewhere in the endless process of getting my 400E to a decent condition. It's slowly time to get around the windshield that needs a replacement due to some damages and lots of scratches.

I noticed that in Europe cars the filter strip was green. The US market cars my 400 comes from it was green or yellow/gold/something like that.

My one looks like this:

proxy.php

Due to EPC the part should be: A1246703301 WINDSHIELD, WITH HEAT-ABSORBING, SHOT-COLORED FOIL.

Is the colour of the strip correct then or is it just a result of 25 years spent in sunny CA so the original colour went away? :)
It matches the aluminium rails so seems to be original. I just want to confirm before getting brand new one and fighting with MB I don't want a green strip ;)

EDIT: ok, I found that the aluminium rails most probably should not be gold: http://www.500eboard.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2757

So now the question is - is it the same story with the strip (different chemistry process, same colour effect)?

Those are to be black and the roof rails and back glass. The sun makes them bronze or gold

Yup, as Louis said, the trim trips were anodized black when new.

I have NO idea on the windshield sun filter. I don't recall seeing any with a green top strip. Klink might know. :klink:

BTW, welcome to the forum!

:welcome4:

Thank you for the replies.

It seems I need to check the price on new roof/windows jewellery. At least compare the price of new ones vs anodizing / refurbishing the ones I own. If the windshield strip is going to be black, then the rails in current brown/gold shade not necessarily will fit.
Damn, I'm afraid the wish list for Santa is closed as for this year ;)

It might be the strip is black (or rather dark or very dark grey), not green. I was pretty sure I saw these in green, but I might be wrong. I didn't put too much attention as it was (so far) enough to sort the strip colours to "like my one" and "the other colour".

Thank you for the welcome. I'm registered for a while now, however as for now only consuming the content. Absolutely amazing source of information on V8 124 chassis, thank you for that BTW.

GSXR, do you have part numbers at hand for those strips? Are they still available from MB, new?

I think a colleague of mine ordered them brand new couple of months ago here in Poland (together with those rubber seals, I think these comes together).

The PN for LEFT is A1246906762, RIGHT A1246906862.

In germany the filter Strips integrated into windshield, could be ordered at the most companies specialized in car glass, with colors as desired. Mostly Blue or Green, but also sometimes Black or Grey/silver. I dont know the stock dealer glass color though.
