I bought a '92 500E (maybe its a '93 read on) about a month ago as a daily driver to replace our 400E. Its 199 black with beige (mushroom!) leather. Wife hates the 2 person rear seat. We have 2 kids & she is often taking friends etc & there is nowhere for the 3rd child. I don't have a nice mushroom leather 3 person rear seat to swap in. I do have a nice black 3 person rear seat. I have a chance of a black on black '92 500E so I am going to get that instead & so this one is for sale.

138,000 miles, 2 owners, original harness. Runs fine, drives fine, ATE brakes, wear on the drivers seat. Console wood cracked. Has a crazy stereo with a a sub woofer & amp in the trunk the first aid cover was removed, a big hole cut in the rear shelf (to let the bass flowww) & a fake panel put over it. Has a couple of bumps & scrapes on the outside, nothing major. No rust I can see. Paint on the top of the bumper above license plate is faded.

I changed all the fluids, engine, trans, SLS, coolant & added a new thermostat. The cam advancers need to be reasealed (probably a good idea to do the valve cover gaskets too), and the steering pump is leaking a bit. It says '92 on the title but it has twin electric mirrors so it may be a '93. Its a 6/92 car, I always thought the model year changed in August.

I'd like to get $7.5k for the car.

Re: '92 500E 199 & Mushroom Leather 138k $7500

It's definitely a 1992 model year, as the VIN is a bit less than my other '92 - mine is B7952xx, also 06/92 build. The electric driver mirror might have been a mid-year change, or perhaps someone else upgraded it? Another easy check is the belt & tensioner... all '92 engines have the 8-rib belt with manual tensioner.

BTW, that's Cream-Beige interior... the color (and name) changed to Parchment in 1994. The color name "mushroom" was never used for any W124 interior in the United States market - possibly overseas for 94/95 models (instead of Parchment), but not for anything in US or 86-93. I think the name "mushroom" gained popularity because that's what showed in the now-defunct Russian VIN decoder, but again that did not apply to the USA / North American market.

Here's a scan of the 1992 color brochure, Parchment started in '92 on the W140 (and R129?), but was not used on the W124 until 1994. Note that Cream-Beige is not the same color, just as Palomino and Saddle (aka Saffron across the pond?) are not the same color; although the difference between Cream and Parchment is far more subtle:
http://www.w124performance.com/docs/mb/ ... e_1992.pdf

Good luck with the sale, btw!

Re: '92 500E 199 & Mushroom Leather 138k $7500

I will add that the cream beige and parchment are very, very similar in color. Very difficult to tell the difference till you put a parchment part in a cream beige car (or vice versa), then it becomes very apparant.

So if you ever buy any parts from Ebay, make sure you know exactly what year they came out of. There is no way to be sure of the exact color via a Ebay picture.

Absoultely 100% correct. Even though they are similar, when you mix the two different colors (cream & parchment) in the same interior, it generally sticks out like a sore thumb.

It's often a PITA to get eBay sellers to tell you the exact year / model (or VIN) of the car an item came from, half the time they're Pick+Pull raids and they don't really know. I've been bitten by that myself. "Oh yeah, it's the color you want, from a 1993 car!" Then I get the part and it's Parchment. Or vice-versa. Shame that MB didn't just leave the 124 colors alone through the end of production....!

Re: '92 500E 199 & Mushroom Leather 138k $7500

X2 on the color confusion. There is a shop in North Hollywood that does replacement leather for 124's--believe it's been referenced a time or two on this site, also on 500ecstasy. John, the owner, was 100% convinced my car had what he referred to as Mushroom. My car has interior color code 275 and it is most definately cream biege. John has been in the MB leather business for many many years...............

What shop are you referring to? Sounds like a good place.

Probably GAHH which used to be on Lankershim, but I believe they've moved elsewhere in N. Hollywood....

Re: FS: 1992 500E, Pearl Black/Beige, 138kmi, $7,500 (New England)

Yeah it is for sale, in the town next to my hometown. I saw it last week. I was like 'WTF is this doing here?'

Not sure what these guys are doing with it, they are a low end seller/repair shop. They sell alot of used pick-up trucks and vans.

Re: FS: 1992 500E, Pearl Black/Beige, 138kmi, $7,500 (New England)

I looked over the car again today.... sorry to say it ain't even close to be worth what they are asking for it. 7500$ was more like it. The front seatcovers look odd; like they were taken off once before (?)

Looks like all they did was vacuum the inside and tire juiced it. Looks pretty good from 20 feet though...in front of all the pick-ups ! It has alot of paint issues but is fairly clean and straight for the most part, front drivers fender was hit and pulled out looks like near the light; the paint is cracked bad on the flare near there. A few scuffs here and there and the lower cladding is VERY dull, duller than normal.

Still has 149K on it...I'm sure itsa good driver though, mechanically its prolly good to go with David as its last owner.

Re: FS: 1992 500E, Pearl Black/Beige, 149kmi, $15k (Berlin, CT)

Recently got this additional bit of info from current owner on another car forum:

I believe the car to be properly maintained. I replaced the cap/rotor, a rear shock and accumulator. I have some ownership history but not maintenance history. Everything is working properly. Car hauls ass!

Apparently, none of the other previously discussed issues have been addressed. The car is there on consignment, asking price recently lowered to $9,995 on website. Owner will take less as car has not sold despite being for sale since early this summer.

Re: FS: 1992 500E, Pearl Black/Beige, 149kmi, $10k (Berlin, CT)

I put new seat skins in the front of the car. I should have bought new horsehair pads but didn't, so of course the horsehair pads had worn with the old seat skins and the new skins wouldn't quite fit properly on them.

Re: FS: 1992 500E, Pearl Black/Beige, 149kmi, $10k (Berlin, CT)

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/290870334426 <-- eBay auction ends Mar-19, 2013. Buy It Now price is $12,850.

Strange that the eBay BIN price is nearly $3k more than the price listed on the website is post #11 above.

Re: FS: 1992 500E, Pearl Black/Beige, 149kmi, $10k (Berlin, CT)

Are those pins that let you lock/unlock the doors stock? In my car they are tiny (1.5cm high?).

Those are stock on USA models. I'm not sure if Euro spec cars had different lock knobs.

:mushroom:

Re: FS: 1992 500E, Pearl Black/Beige, 149kmi, $10k (Berlin, CT)

Yes ! Euro have the rounded ones, more sleek type, nothing to grab style lock knobs. The US carried on using the old style ones as late as - on W210 models IIRC. No offence american friends, but they are ugly and dated IMO ..:sawzall:

Typically, ones with grab design were used in Europe from the 70s till mid 80s, fitted on 116s and 123s alike. I guess it was a Federal safety thing that passengers should be able to pull them if necessary (even though by pulling the door handle from the inside unlocks the doors anyway). Either that the germans probably saw that they still had a huge stock of these and thought, "why not give 'em to the yanks?!" :gor-gor:

Re: FS: 1992 500E, Pearl Black/Beige, 149kmi, $10k (Berlin, CT)

The US-spec 126 coupes had the Euro-style pins, while the 126 sedans had the standard US 124-style lock-knobs.

You can get the pins easily in the US through dealer/parts.com; it's IMHO a nice little bling-tweak. I did it on my E500 years ago....

tip ... the little line on the top of the pin should face OUTWARD (toward the window) when installing the pins onto the lock-shafts.

Cheers,
Gerry

Re: FS: 1992 500E, Pearl Black/Beige, 149kmi, $10k (Berlin, CT)

I believe the 124 CE coupes had the Euro-style pins as well

Re: FS: 1992 500E, Pearl Black/Beige, 149kmi, $10k (Berlin, CT)

I wonder if the car was hit in the font, the right fender and bumper are not aligned - recent pictures, picture 25 of 50.

You are 100% correct .. I forgot to mention that, somehow got fixated on the 126 coupe (obvious reasons) and forgot to mention the 124s as well.... Thanks for adding this !

I wonder if the car was hit in the font, the right fender and bumper are not aligned - recent pictures, picture 25 of 50.

From my visit with it I'd say yes, it was hit in the front once before.

Too bad the owner didn't fix it, it would have helped with the sale. Now it just looks bad...poor car.

Re: FS: 1992 500E, Pearl Black/Beige, 149kmi, $10k (Berlin, CT)

It was fixed...just not that well (IMO). You can still see the paint damage on the drivers fender near the bumper cover.

This car is still priced too high for its cosmetic condition....as compared to others. Rubbing tire shine on the paint is an old detailers/seller's trick ! (BTDT) But the recent detail did clean up the car a whole bunch; especially the inside.

A good buy at 7-8 grand maybe but I bet this dealer is upside down in it now at 8 grand. I'd say not many pearl black with creme beige interiors either. And it ran well when I drove briefly it last fall.

Re: FS: 1992 500E, Pearl Black/Beige, 149kmi, $10k (Berlin, CT)

Apparently the sale at $11k fell through, it's back on eBay, same BIN, auction with reserve:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/290864181904 <-- eBay auction ends Feb-22, 2013. Buy It Now price is $12,850.

UPDATE: Car sold on Feb-22, 2013 for the BIN price of $12,850. High bid was $8900, second highest was $8575. I won't be real shocked if it shows up again by the same seller...

UPDATE 2: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/290870334426 <-- eBay auction ends Mar-19, 2013. Buy It Now price is $12,850. Sold for $10,000 on Mar-15, 2013 at 07:54:26 PDT.

UPDATE 3: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/290890564599 <-- eBay auction ended Apr-07, 2013. Buy It Now price is $11,950. High bid $9,625, reserve not met.

UPDATE 4: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/290909201644 <-- eBay auction ended May-07, 2013. Buy It Now price reduced to $9,850. High bid $6,555, reserve not met.

No surprise...it's still on ebay this week.

While driving through Manassas, VA the other day I spotted this 500E (199/275; 149k miles) in the parking lot of this MB repair specialist (http://luxusautomobile.com/). It has been sitting there for a while...at least through the last couple of snow storms that we've had.

VIN = WDBEA36E7NB795064

I called the repair shop owner (Iraj) and asked him if it is a customer's or if he owns it and is trying to sell. He quickly replied that "it's a customers but I have another one, in much better condition directly in front of my shop that is for sale. It is anthracite with 95k miles and I'm asking $16k for it."

Re: Spotted in Manassas, VA

Yea, ok....that Autocheck report is for the 199 car that I spotted. The (supposed) anthracite 036 is the one for sale.

Admin update: Anthracite car info is at this link.

The car spotted in VA is Hendy's old car... merged/moved threads.

If/when we get the VIN on the mysterious anthracite car, we'll start a new thread...

This Hendy car is interesting. After finally selling and being titled in Norfolk, VA with 149,385 miles back in July 2013, I spot it in Northern Virginia with 149,5xx miles....looking pretty tired and neglected....awaiting some repair work and the usual $10k for said repair work. Sad situation.

Well, if nothing else, Front Royal is beautiful in the spring. Photos taken inside of a Benz dealer somewhere. Definitely not one of those in Front Royal, or Back Royal either, for that matter...

Re: FS: 1992 500E, Pearl Black/Beige, 151kmi, eBay (Front Royal, VA)

I don't think the seller is an MB dealer. Looking at their eBay feedback they buy/sell lots of movies and games. Probably had it detailed at MB dealership.

My guess too. Definitely doesn't look like a dealer seller, much less an MB dealer.

I like how the add copy indicates "bespoke E500 headlights slightly different to standard W124 ones". But wait, the driver-side headlight is in fact a standard W124 headlight. Lot's of questions about this one!

I think they meant "bespoke E500 headlight"... singular. Actually 500E, not E500...

If you are a Mercedes-Benz enthusiast, you will know exactly what you are looking at and this might be one of the best examples available! Would like this to go to a good home! My loss is your gain!

This 500E runs & drives well, without any know mechanical issues. Looking to get $11,000 or BEST REASONABLE offer. Please feel free to email me with any questions or a request of more pictures. I do have a PDF of the cars history I would be able to email also.

The Mercedes-Benz 500E is a supercar produced in collaboration with Porsche-AG from 1991-1995. The vehicle is based on the W124 chassis (1986-1995 officially) although the 500E is a totally different animal to its cousins. They produced around 10,249 supercars all in LHD combined with the 5.0L V8 engine producing 326bhp power and 354 lb/ft of torque coupled to the 4-speed automatic gearbox. The car would sprint from 0-62mph within 6.0 seconds and have a top speed of 155mph which is limited.

Used 1992 Mercedes-Benz 500 E

This is my 1992 500 e Mercedes Benz. I have had this car for about 6 years now. If you are looking at this car you probably already know what it is. 151,280 miles. Exceedingly rare car, collector car values are continuing to rise. Only serious inquiries. No need to sell. No low-ball offers.
This car is well maintained clean example of this true classic Mercedes built in partnership with Porsche. The 500E is one of Mercedes-Benz more interesting models. Introduced in the early 90's blah blah blah Wheels: alloy, Front wipers: intermittent, Power windows, Window defogger: rear.

Same VA plates as seen back in 2014. And, claimed miles are what shows on AutoCheck in 2016. Hmmm. Broken odometer? Registration indicates neither VA nor MI.
