No affiliation. Lowers have been painted 040, looks sharp in monochrome. What a shame the factory catalysts were replaced (photos #160-162). Headlight plastic doors (NLA) are fried. Annotated photos highlighting areas of concern is a nice touch. $650 to replace the trans O/L switch... $1k for a convenience module... yikes! The twin auxiliary cooling fans were replaced with ÜRO (photo 144), and the fan clutch is a Febi/China clutch (photo 143) that may not decouple at low temps nor high RPM.

This 1993 Mercedes-Benz 500E is a black-on-black example that was acquired by the current owner in 2003 and has remained under their care since. The car now shows 121k miles and is powered by a 5.0-liter M119 V8 paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. It rides on 16″ alloy wheels and is equipped with a sunroof, fog lights, automatic climate control, and a Becker stereo as well as heated and power-adjustable front seats. Work since 2022 has included performing various wiring-harness repairs, rebuilding the electronic throttle actuator, and replacing the catalytic converters, cooling-system components, and more as detailed below. This W124 500E is now offered at no reserve by the seller on behalf of the owner with manufacturer’s literature, service records, spare parts, a Carfax report, and a clean Michigan title.
The 500E was assembled by Porsche and featured wheel arch flares, revised bodywork, and a lower ride height when compared to other W124 models. This example is finished in Black (040) with bright trim and color-keyed bumpers and lower cladding. Further exterior details include a hood ornament, headlight washers and wipers, integrated fog lights, a retractable antenna, and a power sunroof, which was last operated in 2023. A November 2003 Carfax report entry describes an accident with another vehicle that resulted in “minor to moderate damage.” The seller notes that the accident was a collision with an animal rather than with another vehicle, and the left-side lower cladding was subsequently repaired and repainted. The front-right marker light is inoperative and chipped paint and other blemishes around the car are identified by the seller in the gallery.
Silver-finished 16″ eight-hole alloy wheels are mounted with older 225/55 Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tires. The car is equipped with Automatic Slip Control (ASR). Braking is handled by four-wheel ventilated discs. The brake fluid was flushed in 2023. Discoloration on the wheels is shown in the gallery.
The heated and power-adjustable front bucket seats are trimmed in black leather that extends to the rear bench and portions of the door panels. Wood trim accents the cabin, which is further appointed with driver seat-position memory settings, a fold-down rear console, a power-operated rear sunshade, automatic climate control, cruise control, and a Becker AM/FM/cassette stereo. In April 2024, Steve’s European Automotive of Waterford, Michigan, partially disassembled the interior and repaired damage to the wiring harness caused by rodents. The convenience control module was also replaced at that time, and the overhead dome light and sunroof control panel were replaced in 2023. The trunk-mounted CD changer does not eject discs and the driver-side vanity mirror lights are inoperative. The headliner has become detached in multiple locations, and other interior imperfections are shown in the gallery,.
The four-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel is mounted on a power-adjustable column and frames a tachometer with a 6k-rpm redline as well as a 160-mph speedometer, an analog clock, and gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The six-digit odometer shows 121k miles, approximately 59k of which were added by the seller.
The 5.0-liter M119 DOHC V8 was factory rated at 322 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque. The electronic throttle actuator was rebuilt and repairs were made to the upper and lower engine wiring harnesses in 2022. Work since has included replacing the following parts:
- Air filters
- Air filter housing mounts
- Air intake hoses
- Vacuum pump
- Radiator and mounts
- Fan clutch
- Electric cooling fans
- Thermostat
- Coolant temperature sensor
- Voltage regulator
An oil change and power steering fluid flush were most recently carried out in 2023. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission. The catalytic converters were replaced in July 2024 along with portions of the exhaust piping and hangers. The transmission overload protection switch was also replaced at that time. The spare tire well is dented. Service records are included in the sale along with spare parts and manufacturer’s literature. The Carfax report contains the aforementioned 2003 damage report.
