• Hi Guest !

    Welcome to the 500Eboard forum.

Since its founding in late 2008, 500Eboard has become the leading resource on the Internet for all things related to the Mercedes-Benz 500E and E500. In recent years, we have also expanded to include the 400E and E420 models, which are directly related to the 500E/E500.

We invite you to browse and take advantage of the information and resources here on the site. If you find helpful information, please register for full membership, and you'll find even more resources available. Feel free to ask questions, and make liberal use of the "Search" function to find answers.

We hope you will become an active contributor to the community!

    Sincerely,
    500Eboard Management

It’s sad to see this car presented for sale in this condition especially at £32,000.00. At the least the seller could have cleaned it up. The carpets and mats are filthy as well as the engine bay.

The only explanation might be it’s an estate sale and was just pulled out of a garage to be sold.

Saw this car two months ago on Gumtree, I have a screenshot of the listing there. I've been occasionally checking reg since just out of curiosity, since the V5 date changed shortly after it's listing on Gumtree, I was under the assumption that the car sold, but I was wrong...
It was quite a shocker for me to see the asking price of the plate; considering I have '5 OOE'.. Asking more than the car itself! :jono: Silly where the price of plates have gone over here but I am not one to complain.

But yes, I agree with all that's been said - the car looks a bit tired...

This one was sold by jaymanek at Mercland donkey years ago, and it was later bought by a forum member on here (whether it was from Mercland or not I'm unsure) , I forget the name but it's henry something?? I'm not sure if this is the gent who's selling the car now??

Agreed, it also looks like it has no bonnet insulation which is a poor effort.

Look at the contrast between this one and @TimL's car:

I just did a bit of digging around and I'm confident it is the same owner now selling - lots of similar wording used in past posts and the current advert.

My claim to fame is to have E500 W (actually E5 OOW) on my E500. On a good day, I reckon this might be worth £500? The plate 500E - which might initially appear appealing - would surely only be of interest to someone (a) who, for registration purposes, lived in the UK, and (b) who owned a car whose type/nomenclature included 500E. Might I suggest such combination would be rare, and because of this, the plate would have VERY limited appeal? Hence the price asked is totally unrealistic?

I think you’re wrong here though, a plate doesn’t necessarily have to mean something to be desirable.

In this context, yes, it’s likely that someone with a 500E and in the UK would only be interested in the plate, because it’s advertised on the cars ad.

BUT, if this plate was on Regtransfers for example, I’d reckon it would sell around £20-25,000 (I know it’s a big range but these things are hard to gauge) but at a push. So yes it’s unrealistic, but I would say his asking price isn’t too far off??…

Short plates have gone mad, they don’t necessarily need to mean anything, people will buy whatever looks good and often the shorter, the better.

I don’t know; my answer may be slightly biased, but this is just a reflection of what I’ve seen of the private plate market. 🤷‍♂️

My plates on my E24 635CSI at the moment, and even then gets plenty of compliments (more so than the car sometimes haha)..

I simply “don’t get” vanity plates so to me they are not worth anything.

They seem like an expensive way to draw attention to yourself / your car which I have absolutely no interest in. Presumably the attention could also be positive or negative.

One could also say the same thing about cars! Just a piece of machinery to transport you from point A to point B??

It’s all subjective.. We’re all human and therefore look at things differently.. I respect your opinion.

To an extent yes although you rarely see Nissan Micras with BO55MAN type reg plates 🤣. Cars being custom painted would perhaps be a closer analogy.

They actually help me a little as I’m often driving and see a car I want to know more about so the plate being more easily remembered helps me until I can get to use my phone and enter the car into the app.

I believe this car has now sold.

K918 RGN flags up in the reg checked with the cars details now & with a V5C issue date of 18th June. :choochoo:

It’s possible the plate 50 OE is still available, as I don’t think it sold with the car.

That’s the experience I got when I bought a vanity plate ”W124”. It got even more (mainly) unwanted attention from the wrong people. I didn’t use it that much.

I kept the physical plates after they were invalid, and use them at gatherings sometimes, but everywhere else I just use the standard plate.

No 500 E emblem and standard wheels are great too, only people who truly appreciate these cars know what I drive. Just like I want it!
