1993 G wagon AC Compressor Removal

How is the best way to take the AC compressor out of the G-Wagen? I read that in the sedans it comes out from below by removing the roll bar. It is tight in there looking down at the compressor.

What G-wagen engine do you have? If you have the M104 as I do, there should be plenty of room to get at the compressor. I don't know the exact procedure for a G-wagen (as I had my compressor replaced back in 2017), but when I did it last year on my M119, I removed it from BELOW the car. There is a HOW-TO on doing it, and the early 463 compressor should be nearly identical to the M119 units used on our E500Es. As I remember, it was held by three long bolts plus the manifold connection, and an electrical connection.

You would need to remove the HEAVY front-end skidplate under the engine to make the room to drop the compressor down. Be prepared when you loosen that plate, if you are on your back under it, as it weighs somewhere around 50-60 pounds if not more, and you don't want that weight dropping directly down onto your chest. There is enough clearance under the G-wagen that you shouldn't even need to jack it up to remove the compressor - you can do it while on your back.
