FOR SALE 1993 RENNTech 600E, Black/Black, 38kmi, $90k - accident history (Stuart, FL)

“INQUIRE” is nice to see these days.
Anyone going to take the bait and axe what they want? Note the accident does not appear on AutoCheck.

It sort of begs the question do I want another one. Up until the headlight wiper delete. And the crash history. Oh well. Car presents well though.
Crash history is a bummer, especially for the low odometer. It does look very nice. Needs the springs repaired for the sunroof wind deflector.

There's a fair amount of BS and exaggeration here. Not to mention an error, there is no gear ratio 2.88 for any W124 chassis in the 210mm differential. It's either stock 2.82 (most likely) or could be 2.65/3.06, maybe. For $100k they can't get the listing accurate?

Also... 457hp/491tq is, IMO, weapons-grade baloneyum. That would mean ~375hp/400tq at the wheels, and as I'm sure @jhodg5ck can confirm, it's extremely unlikely any LH-SFI controlled, normally-aspirated 6.0L M119 makes that kind of power. More likely, RT applied a very optimistic powertrain loss factor to the rear-wheel dyno data.

I'm estimating this car might have measured 342rwhp/368rwtq on the dyno, with the aforementioned very optimistic 25% powertrain loss applied to generate the 457/491 numbers. With a more realistic 18% factor applied to the above rear-wheel estimates, that would be 420hp/450tq, which is realistic from a "Stage 3" build - and would indicating the engine is making max power as designed. At a minimum, we'd need to see the raw dyno data showing rear-wheel power before any conversion factor is applied. I hate when crank numbers are posted without stating the conversion percentage.

EDIT: Dyno graph posted below. There was "only" a 20% adjustment for powertrain losses, but the dyno graph is presented in STD standard which is optimistic/inflated vs SAE standard.

The 4.4-second 0-60 time is also misleading, 4.4 seconds could be possible on a dragstrip with drag radials and all planets aligned (near perfect weather conditions). 4.4 is never going to happen on a public road surface with street tires (even Pilots). ASR will engage and actual time will likely be low 5-seconds.

Does anyone have the Car and Driver article that allegedly has this test report of a Stage III 500E 6.0L? I do not have this one in my archives.

This looks like an amazing car, but it needs more photos and less hyperbole.

All C&D and R&T and Automobile magazine articles ever published about the E500E and derivatives would be in this forum's archives.

THANK YOU! :thankyou:

366rwhp with 18% powertrain loss = estimated 446hp STD at crankshaft (RT claims 457hp)
393rwtq with 18% powertrain loss = estimated 479tw STD at crankshaft (RT clamps 491tq)

Note that STD numbers are higher than SAE, read this post for more details of STD vs SAE correction factors. TLDR / money quote:

"Most people know that showing STD numbers read higher but not many know why. SAE represents more realistic standard conditions, STD artificially boosts numbers."

Adjusting for SAE numbers, which IMO are more accurate/realistic, at 3-4% less than STD:

366rwhp with 18% powertrain loss = estimated 428-433hp SAE at crankshaft
393rwtq with 18% powertrain loss = estimated 460-465tqw SAE at crankshaft

Note that it's not possible to generate actual (not estimated) SAE rear-wheel numbers without the atmospheric conditions at time of testing. RENNtech could easily generate these SAE numbers in the DynoJet software, or they could share the raw .drf files, but they may be unwilling to share.

Semantics aside:
That is one STRONG running 6.0L engine, ~430hp/460tq at the crank are the highest numbers I've ever seen for any 119.97x (LH-SFI) engine on a DynoJet dyno. It would be interesting to see the full dyno data which also shows the atmospheric conditions for the test, and what atmospheric correction (if any) was applied for conditions. I do wish they had pulled to the rev limiter at 6300rom instead of stopping the party at 5900, but the curve is very good. Power on many RENNtech 6.L engines tends to drops off beyond ~5600rpm, I've only seen one that pulled hard to 6300 (like the 5.0L and 4.2L engines do).

Where is the Carbon Fiber air intake that is mentioned? looks like the stock air box to me.

Where would one get pads & rotors for the Alcon set up? Are those parts even available? Rebuild kit for the calipers?

Photos from the previous seller/dealer in March 2024 show the stock airbox. Maybe RENNtech added the carbon airbox for the current listing in Florida? Very, very odd that RT would list a car for sale with a special engine and have not one single photograph under the hood.

:scratchchin:

Pads may be available, but last I checked pads to fit Alcons were crazy expensive. Rotors - great question, I don't know. You could get custom 2-piece rotors fabricated as needed, but again, $$$$. No idea on the caliper rebuild kit but calipers rarely require a rebuild.
