Up for sale is my 1994 E500. VIN WDBEA36E4RC074748 was built in November 1993. It was exported from Germany to Baltimore MD and sold new by the well-known east coast Mercedes-Benz dealer, Jack Picard Imports, in North Carolina to the first owner. In 1998 it was sold to the second owner, a pilot/mechanic, and then moved to Louisiana where it was bought by me in 2015 [details here - Ed.]. It is now garaged in Dallas. There are just over 178k miles on the clock and that may increase as I am still periodically driving the car. The car has a clean Texas title. Downsizing and reducing the fleet is my reason for selling this special car.
The Black Pearl Metallic paint shows very nicely. The undercarriage is in unmolested driver condition and, besides minor exhaust system surface rust, shows no areas of significant concern. The original OEM wheels have been refinished and the Continental Extreme Contact DWS06+ radial tires are essentially brand new. In 2021, a careless parker dented the rear, and I took that opportunity to refresh the paint including the contrasting gray cladding and bumpers. At that time, minor rust discovered under two doors was addressed.
I have detailed maintenance records dating back to the first owner and through my ownership. All the usual significant issues have been addressed, and the car has had consistent periodic maintenance under all three owners. Replaced items include engine wiring harnesses, plastic CAM oiler tubes replaced with MB metal, upper chain guides, throttle body, rear hydraulic shocks and accumulators, power steering pump, fuel pumps, distributors, injectors and coils, radiator, radio, AC blower, compressor, and condenser, and much more. Earlier owner documents show that the original transmission was replaced under warranty by the importing Mercedes dealership at about 31k miles. 147k+ miles on, that same transmission shifts well with no performance issues.
The Anthracite (black) Interior is in good condition with typical minor leather creasing. Included are custom CoCoMats and there are no carpet issues. The sunroof seals and works well, and the headliner is presentable and not sagging. The dash is unscratched and has no cracks. HVAC runs well with no leaking refrigerant. The original instrument cluster suffered from the DDD and has been replaced, and instrument gauges calibrated by a Dallas specialist shop. I have sourced and have available another replacement cluster with the correct ASR speedometer window from a donor E420. I also have the original engine air intake hoses in case the next owner desires to rebuild them. The rear windscreen has barely noticeable delamination on lower edges, and third brake light has the usual typical minor W124 plastic heat warping. The rear sunshade is undamaged and functions well.
This is a non-rustbelt vehicle with three owners who were and have been committed to preservation. Additional pictures and a detailed maintenance list covering 30 years is available for serious buyers. Despite its age, as forum members are aware, this model can more than outperform most modern vehicles. The asking price is $50,500 (the JD Power Average Retail Value for this model in good condition with 178k miles) or best offer. I believe that I have fairly and depicted this vehicle, its history and its condition, but it is a 30-year old car so it is being offered “AS IS, WHERE IS.” If you are looking for one of these special cars, please send your contact information by PM and I will respond as soon as I can. Thank you for your interest!
