Interesting... same car had been wrapped in black, and was listed for $50k:

This is not your ordinary Mercedes! This car has been extensively modified by renntech and is pushing out over 400hp! A 6.0 liter V8 has been fitted, along with a Gleason limited slip rear, uprated transmission with a short shift kit (rebuilt by Blue Ridge Mercedes), big sway bars, and a cooling system to keep up with it all. It rides like a Mercedes, with the speed of a Porsche! The car has been wrapped in black vinyl, with the original brilliant silver underneath. This is the ultimate sleeper car. It is a must drive.

No yellowing Renntech carbon fiber air box with clear coat peel? (snif) That would have sealed the deal for me (as well as an OEM wiper)

It appears that this car is pioneering a new high-performance "design" for the air-intake "zoom" tubes.

Black Wrap? Why would anybody want their car to look like it’s painted with primer? Was that beautiful silver paint due for a repaint?

Looks like 17” Monoblocks to me? Also what’s with the bandaids on the intake pipes.

For $57K asking price this car needs waaay better pics and detailing. I guess the seller thinks the 6.0 engine is all that needs to be said.

It appears that this car is pioneering a new high-performance "design" for the air-intake "zoom" tubes.

So, what color is this car black wrap? or back to brilliant silver?

Driver side headlight lens is incorrect... no big deal.

Dash seam alignment looks just slightly wonky in the recent photo, but could just be the camera angle. Maybe no big deal.

Upper radiator crossmember is not original - it's from a 1992 car, not a 1994. Uh-oh.

Car looks great otherwise!

:watchdrama:

I'm headed to Cali for a week, otherwise I could put eyes on this. I'll be back next Thursday. If anyone is interested in this vehicle, let me know if you'd like me to go take a look at it for you, its about 20-30 minutes away from me.

High beam lens doesn’t have clear glass
Bingo. I'm not 100% certain, since there are no high-res photos, but it sure looks that way. That's fixable. The upper rad support swap makes me wonder what the story is behind it. Not that I'd care much with 400hp under the bonnet.

:3gears:

Damn I missed that (honestly didn't look that closely).
What I meant to ask was that I've noticed some of you can easily notice if an 036 has RHD glass on a LHD car. What's the dead giveaway.
A close-up photo of the lens is needed to confirm, but Gerry is correct, the lines in the fluting show RHT vs LHT. Photo below courtesy of another forum member (posted in a different thread).

Still over my head. I guess that’s why I never got around to the headlight “upgrade” — too much grey matter and work for me. What I find more interesting is that RENNtech only charged one hour of labor for a “Transmission Upgrade.” What could that be except a AMG vacuum modulator and “maybe” a Bowden cable adjustment? Also that this car has ASR Delete, which I know RENNtech installed but which doesn’t show up on the paperwork. Is that a RENNtwch exhaust? Also not on the paperwork. (EDIT... post #1 has more complete paperwork than post #5).

And finally, $50k+ is hard for me to conceive for a 25year old performance sedan, when performance sedans have gotten steadily better and can be had for fractions of that amount. But I admit that’s easy to say when you already have an E5E. If you’re in the market for one and don’t have one, the extra coin for this one might make a whole lot of sense.

Would I sell mine and add another $15k-$20k to it to have this one, HAIL! no.

maw

New Zuckerbook listing, same price. Was it on consignment before?

Same photos as in post #5.

From the set of FB pics posted in Nov-2019, when the car was shown in silver:
75010626_10157095288781137_4176741810007179264_n-jpg.90925

Note the "Failed" sticker in the proper lower DS corner of windshield. Also note the black wing mirrors. Front license plate appears to display a "2020" registration sticker.

The "wrapped" photos were from no later than 2018 based on the registration sticker and location of the safety inspection sticker in the lower center of windshield.

The recent CL photos show a current "2021" safety inspection sticker
00A0A_5MknnwasZSz_1200x900.jpg

Along with (now) expired Mar-2020 registration stickers on the license plate.

AND, of course, those ridiculous glossy-black painted wing mirrors. Simply cannot unsee them.

I wonder if the flipper-dealer is in "Rural NoVa" ... ? Oops, Richmond is in Central Va.

I didn't know that 722.3s could have "short shift kits" ... particularly being sold by the @jhodg5ck. How much are these E500E short shift kits costing, and what do they do? Shorten the throw of the gear lever between D and 2 and 1?

I don't know about that "short shift kit", it might decrease leverage and cause problems when you're slammin' gears.

Oh, and my '87 wagon also has those "glossy-black painted wing mirrors", so there!

IIRC, early 124's did not have the mirrors painted body color. Might have been a 1990 facelift item. Those are easy to swap out and/or repaint/wrap if desired.

:pc1:

I've asked him to fix that Mistake in his add now a few times.

we did build a box with kevlar bands, high energy clutches and upped some springs in the valve body....so if that's a short shift kit, news to me!

That was a Strong 6L last time I saw her some Years ago. I think the years of being on the market with Meh advertising has bitten this one in the butt..... :-/

jono

I think that the add and the photos of this car really suck. The "Brilliant Silver" looks dead in these photos. The dust covered engine pics arn't helping much either. At $55K asking this car needs to be "IN YOUR FACE POPPING YOUR EYES OUT" :kapow:

At the $55K asking price, the seller needs to get a to get this car professionally detailed,
get somebody like Jlaa or Derf to do an articulate written description and then get a professional photographer to do a photo shoot.

One small bit of additional info. Ad states Burleigh A/B repainted hood, they are a good paint shop though no info on how long ago work was done. Burleigh's re-painted the hood and R frt fender of my old '95 904 E420 after an accident and were recommended by the local MB dealer. Blended new and old panels well on my car, my untrained eye could not distinguish new paint from old. This was at least 10 years ago.

Punch List is below. Fairly lengthy.

Everything is typical and small stuff, nothing egregious. Appears to be a fairly honest and solid car, though there are ZERO images of undercarriage of car and under-side of engine. Seller should really add a couple dozen photos of the car's suspension and underside, and underneath the engine.

A lot of small things that could be remedied with very little cost, that would help it a lot. It is good that the "zoom tubes" have been replaced with new MB factory tubes. The headlight issue on the driver's side REALLY needs to be remedied.
  1. Appears that at least the left (driver's side) headlamp lens is a "pedestrian" E500 Euro lens, not an E500-specific lens
  2. Headlight wipers have been removed
  3. Slight degradation of rubber exterior vertical seal/moulding in driver's side rear door triangle (quarter) window
  4. Passenger-side spoiler-mounted fog-lamp has HEAVILY sand-blasted lens
  5. Hood star circular blue MB surround has nearly all blue paint worn away & could use replacement
  6. Very dirty radiator upper support / hood latch area. Could use a good cleaning
  7. No front floor mats -- only factory carpeting. Could use mats to protect carpet
  8. Modest wear / creasing on leather of rear seats -- a bit more than one typically sees. Seats appear a bit dirty / scuffed, as well
  9. Crack on vertical wood just above "EC" button on ACC panel
  10. Car is dirty under & behind front seats. Interior could use a thorough detailing all over
  11. Front seat rails could use a re-lubrication, as lube is 100% dried out
  12. SLS fluid reservoir is old and yellowed
  13. Car is totally missing black plastic cover on top of radiator (likely because of custom RENNtech radiator installed)
  14. Coolant hoses going into windshield washer tank have been removed from tank and capped
  15. In some photos, trunk MB star is missing
  16. "E600" badge is non-standard, and is mis-installed (numbers are too close together)
  17. Car has appearance of very beginning of rear windscreen edge delamination, but it is not very apparent
  18. Exhaust hanger appears stretched and not secure at holding RENNtech exhaust system on car
  19. Lower corner of passenger side turn signal lens is cracked and apparently re-cemented onto car
  20. Paintwork around exterior trunk release button shows evidence of poor marking and paint finish-work
  21. Inside of gasoline filler flap and tank filler is extremely dirty and moldy; could use cleaning out
  22. There are two gouges/dents in the leather on the rear seat panel directly above rear armrest
  23. Map pockets in both front doors are peeled
  24. End of wood on rear driver's side door, near window switch, shows evidence of scratches
  25. Crack on horizontal center console wood, between mirror adjustment switch and passenger window switch
  26. Driver's seat has deep creasing all over it (side bolsters, even on outside of seat)
  27. Stray / rusty floor map clip embedded in center console carpet next to gas pedal. Needs to be thrown away
  28. Radiator is a custom-made (RENNtech) aluminum radiator
  29. Cracking in insulation glud to the A/C hose running along inner firewall next to brake fluid reservoir
  30. Radio antenna mast is not original / Hirschmann type
  31. Rear tires appear (perhaps) slightly oversized -- too wide -- for 17" wheel width (subjective)
  32. Slight melting of upper tier of third brake lamp lens
  33. Front passenger door rubber seal lifting at trailing edge
  34. Front driver door rubber seal lifting very slightly at trailing edge
  35. Aftermarket windshield wipers / blades
  36. Windshield has large ding above instrument cluster, and several smaller dings. Windshield should be replaced
  37. Missing short chrome spear trim behind rear door on cladding panel (appears to be in ashtray?!?)
  38. Cladding above aforementioned spear is cracked at top
  39. Front spoiler has some typical scrapes and dings
  40. Driver's side cladding between front wheel and door is lifting off of car's body
  41. Car has incorrect (black, 802 (1992) model year code) emission control / catalyst sticker on upper radiator support. Mystery as to where this came from, as all 1994 cars would have had a yellow sticker here. Perhaps upper radiator support was replaced?
  42. Driver's side front seat bolster badly worn; seat should be re-covered
  43. Car appears to be missing factory / original tool-kit
  44. Trunk lip appears to be missing "BEIM BEILADEN" sticker?
  45. Rear wood console between rear seats has cracks in wood
  46. Cording on MB factory car phone in center console is badly bio-degraded
  47. Bolt that attaches inner corner of driver's side headlight is rusted at wiper delete panel
  48. Car has very dingy RENNtech floor mat in trunk
  49. Door mirror rubber badly cracked and in need of replacement
  50. Evidence of massive coffee spill inside of center compartment between front seats; this needs cleaning badly
  51. Headliner falling in rear and in need of replacement sooner than later
  52. Plastic antenna mast cover on rear fender is missing lower seal at fender, allowing water ingress into trunk area
  53. Outside lower bolster on front passenger seat is squashed / collapsed
  54. Dashboard plastic surround for ignition key is ill-fitting and mis-installed
  55. It is likely that mini-shock of front armrest phone compartment is no longer working
  56. Leading corner of C-pillar plastic cover on passenger side (near rear reading light) is mis-installed and apart from roof/headliner
  57. Plastic inner cover of driver's seatrail appears to be broken or otherwise mis-aligned
  58. Leading corner of C-pillar plastic cover on driver side (near rear reading light) is peeling off
  59. Instrument cluster has the VERY BEGINNINGS of DDD, but this is not very apparent
  60. Gear shift lever indicator has a dark brown coffee stain
  61. Driver's side door mirror has a black, rather than body-colored, cover, indicating probable replacement of mirror

My experience is limited on these cars but a 61 point plus punch list for a car flirting with mid to high $50s pricing should not be present. They do not have cup holders for a reason! And that Renntech mat in the trunk looks like it was recovered from a couple of feet of water. My limited $0.02.

Like I said, a lot of small and careless items on the punch list, rather easily remedied. Barring any nastiness on the underside of the car (rust, etc.) I think this car could be a $50-60K car, all in. It wouldn't take too much to go through it and remedy about 90% of the issues pretty easily. If these things would have been remedied before the car was listed for sale, I think it would bring probably a good $10K higher than it is going to bring in current condition.

Most of the time you see issues like paint cosmetics. On this car it's just the opposite - the paint seems to be pretty good, but it's the small details that are going to hold it back.

I do plan to play the @Ntrepid game, but I'm going to wait a bit longer.

This is the only black eye I can find on the car (ignoring all the little cosmetic stuff). The upper radiator support is not original, and is sourced from a 1992 400E. One of the previous owners must know why...

The lack of photos of the underside and suspension of the car is a significant omission.

More photos were contributed by the seller, and were posted by BaT within the past few hours. These photos are lierally super tiny in size (why would a seller post such tiny photos of a sensitive area of a car like the underside?), but ARE of the underside. They would be better if of larger resolution.

Also, I did not mention, but the photos posted really "gloss over" the severely worn driver's side outer seat bolster. It is really not that visible and certainly not in focused detail as to the extent of the hole that is worn in the leather.

Dry ice blasting the underside would probably result in +$5k on the sale price. And if it was consigned to Dean, make that +$25k.

Still a really sweet car, despite the list of needs.

The Forum is getting quoted heavily on this BAT listing. @gerryvz so where do we sign up for the @Ntrepid game entry?

I tried to post a suggestion to BaT user @arm287 about making his photos public over here on the forum, but I doubt that my comment will be published.

Glad to see no mention of a "short shift kit" in this listing per @jhodg5ck earlier comment.

That person has been a member for 4.5 years and has no bids or lots posted for sale and only has 2 comments both in the last 3 months. Not sure they will be proactive enough to make sure those photos make their way into the forum. Would be good though.
