Greetings to selective eBoards community members: I have decided to offer my 1998 AMG Mercedes Benz C43 for sale, found during my very many sleepless nights of doing car research online in the relentless search of a good W124 E500E. This C43 came to me as a lead of a pseudo abandoned car collection inside a hangar in San Francisco, CA and this particular vehicle was the only one of interest. All the others were JDMs for which I had no interest in. I wanted to give the board members here an opportunity at an exceptionally unique car and I really want it to go to another Mercedes enthusiast who will appreciate her and enjoy her for many years to come as well. I would hate to see this car flipped. (Moderators if I have posted this on the wrong forum, I would be happy to see it migrated where it belongs. Thank you).

There is always a story, and in this case a very good and intriguing one. I also am in a mindset of 'less is more' after current set of global circumstances have given everyone, myself included, a good wake up call. So I will keep the stable with just enough stallions so that the experience can be even more enjoyable . That is my decision at this time. She will remain posted here until 7/20/2020, at which time if she has not found a new home, I will close the posting and further prepare the car for a live auction with a reserve which has already been accepted at the major online auction site. They love these cars in there. Please note she is being offered within my local network of car enthusiasts as well and I reserve the right to pull the ad or close the post from this marketplace at any given time due to local sale or offering retraction. I also reserve the right to change my mind and not sell her at all, at any given moment. Reason for sale is not financial, it is quite simple: I have too many cars and even though she is in the rotation, there is just not enough time to properly add seat time. These cars are meant to be driven, even more so than my beloved Porsches and and now Mercedes, but I really have no use for two 4 door MB sedans. This is pure German engineering and AMG tuning perfection, quaintly packaged in a 4 door unassuming sedan. This is a private sale and most likely presented to those who not only know these cars, but also appreciate a high end and enthusiast recovered and preserved condition vehicle as opposed to the alternates out there. She has undergone a loving mild cosmetic and mechanic restoration since PO essentially abandoned all of his cars for 12 to 14 years. I was very lucky to come across this example and valuing its potential, went ahead and brought her to my standard sparing no expense. I want her to go to another enthusiast's home who shares the same passion and care for these cars. If you are a dealer, broker, tire kicker or flipper, please do not waste your time with contacting me with low ball 'wholesale' offers. My ask is what I have into the car with less than 300 miles driven since I found her, but price is negotiable. No trades this time, and more importantly, I have no regrets. The W124 is just pure Bliss... the dealer I normally work with is currently involved in this transaction at this time but I have freedom to speak on the car and indicate pricing as consignment period has passed. It will be buyer's preference if they want to finalize through the dealer, or deal directly with me. . I will make this as easy as possible. For all inquiries please PM me or call/text whatsapp. There is room for responsible offers though not much. I have owned the car for 10 months and put barely 300 miles since my ownership. Mild restoration took 3 months mainly waiting for Original NLA AMG parts to come in from Germany. Miles are minimally fluid as she needs to stretch her legs. Ask me anything via PM and I will reply accordingly. My cell 786.266.7687.

Vehicle is located in South Florida area and PPIs are welcome at this independent shop: Foreign Affairs Motorsports, Pompano Beach, FL., or any major Mercedes Benz dealer within a 30 mile area of my location. There is not a nicer, lower mileage example offered anywhere near the state, possibly in the country at the moment. All mild restoration work was performed between September and December of 2019.

Everything from my original purchase PPI and service performed in California is attached to this listing, as well as everything done after the car arrived in South Florida. This car passes California Smog, attached is the emissions certificate from SFO DMV of barely 900 miles ago. Please review documentation carefully and ask me anything. Updated Car Fax is also attached as well as additional links and photos are updated further below in subsequent postings.

Included in the sale:

.- Original Window Sticker

.- OEM Mercedes Benz all weather mats. Trunk is lined with a weather-tech floor liner
.- OEM Rear door guard sills - Illuminated
.- OEM AMG C43 fabric mats, never used. They are wrapped for protection and come separately, see photo. These are NLA.
.- OEM Avantguarde front hood grille is included. I purchased and had mounted the classic look grille which is currently on the car
.- Set of 4 Carlsson OZ 2-piece 18" wheels that came with the car will be included. I have added additional photos of them on the car. Included as is.
.- All available documents, service records of prior owner and of all work done during my ownership although most of it is posted on
this ad.

.- Vehicle is lowered to Eurospec on HR springs. Stock suspension springs are also included with sale. There were no spacers required, there is no rubbing or shaving present. The current wheel/tire set up is as follows:

Front: 8J and ET 31 with Michelin Pilot Sports 225/40 ZR 18"
Rear: 9J and ET 35 with Michelin Pilot Sports 255/35 ZR 18"

Car received sprayless paint correction which brought back the paint to mirror like look and got rid of any swirls. The trunk lid is painted and they did an outstanding job and preserved the original vin sticker which is still under the license plate of the car. The star emblem and the 'AMG' emblem on the rear of the vehicle are new, the 'C43' emblem was salvaged and reinstalled in the car so it is the original from factory. Rear mounted spoiler was aftermarket and was discarded. Not included in sale.

After being sitting for so long the car just needed basic items done as shown on purchase PPI and took minimal time and expense to get her 'fired up' once more. Fluid flush and new fluids added, new battery, new oil, brakes flushed, new spark plugs, new fuel filter, lower control arm, and others very minimal. Performed 40k mile service in California before car arrived to South Florida. Most of the work performed in SoFla was cosmetic. Only A/C, yes we need A/C in this part of the world, was fitted with new compressor and drier and other minimal items per attached service invoices. Ask me anything and I will be be happy to respond.

The C43 came as I found it with some Carlsson OZ 18" 2 piece wheels which I do not like at all. Some enthusiasts of AMG say they have historical value. I never saw it. I would accept a lower offer with the OZ wheels, buyer would have to purchase new tires as the tires this car had when I bought it were from 2006. Car was a 'barn find' or more of a 'storage find' as it was inside a climate controlled hangar in California among 24 other cars, all others JDM's for which I had no interest in as mentioned above. This one was the only one with potential, and I bought it as a self consolation price and being exhausted from 3 years of searching for a good W124 E500E to no avail after countless vehicles sent to PPI. Until Now. In short, I have no use for 2x 4 door Mercedes Benz sedans so I hope one of my fellow Mercedes enthusiasts or another marque enthusiasts picks her up and gives her the love that she deserves for years of enjoyment to come. This car is plug and play, or 'start and drive' it needs nothing just a new home, I already took care of everything at no expense spared. Carbon Fiber trim around doors is intact and original from factory.

Below is a link to a write up this German blog did on this very car before I purchased it, the write up was arranged by the original owner's 'handler' which sold me the car. I will also post a video walkaround I did of the car the day I got her back from being beautified. Thanks again and look forward to seeing her off. All the best and stay safe. My cell again: 786-266-7687. PM, whatsapp, call or text me with any questions. Thank you for your interest. JB

I don't understand.

You're the original owner?

I don't understand how this works. This all seems a bit "squishy." How can someone be selling a car, but their name is not on the title of the car as the legal owner?

Does this mean that if I were to steal a car, and happened to find the title to the car in the glove box, that I could assume ownership of the car and do what I want with it, because I have the title (even with someone else's name on it) in my possession?

No. It is disclosed in my detailed description above. I bought it 10 months ago. Send me a private message or call me if you are interested in the car. This is not a Flip. Tha k you.

I take exception to that Gerry. Nothing ‘Squishy’ here, Especially since you did the data card for this car. It’s called title endorsement. This is what dealers do all the time they don’t title to their name every car they sell. Takes 5mins to do at any DMV or Auto tag agency in Florida. As mentioned in the description, car is with my dealer broker on consignment. But the time has passed. As long as original title is present, car can be sold to anyone. Per your ‘stealing’example you would not be able to assume ownership, you need a bill of sale and original owner to endorse the title to you. Both of which I have.

If there is genuine interest in the car please message me or call me and I would be happy to answer any questions. I did not post this car in here to get scrutinized about the ability to sell. If I did not have that ability, I would not have posted it. I am giving any fellow member the opportunity to look into buying the car if interested. There are no other similar examples being offered anywhere else that I have found. I would have kept it had I not found the W124036 I was looking for so can only do with one 4 door MB at this time. Call me for any further questions. Thank you.

If you've been around this forum for any length of time and have been paying attention, it tends to be a no BS zone.

Putting "1 Owner" in the thread title doesn't really fit in with that vibe, does it?

Details sell a car, not fluff and verbose listings.

Might I suggest a clear and concise list of the work you have done on the car in order for it to be worth more than the ~$20K you just paid for it, per the GCFSB linky you provided?

And if the Title isn't in your name, then you should clearly disclose that fact, as it a huge risk to a buyer.

DISCLOSURE: I have no interest in this car.

Yes I’ve been around here long enough to learn a thing or two. All of the work orders and invoices of the work done to the car during my ownership are posted above plus the Car Fax which I provided. If you want a more transparent listing than that I don’t know what to tell you. There is no BS here. Go back on alm of my posts when have you found anything nefarious or dubious? If anything I have followed all guidelines to a T in here. Did not know this was going to be so polarizing. Didn’t think you had any interest either so not sure why you want to spend additional energy typing.

My cell phone is in the listing if you want to continue this give me a call or leave the space for someone who actually may have interest in the car. Happy to further discuss with anyone else as well.

And here I am thinking I am sharing a potential opportunity for someone appreciative to get this car. I may have to reconsider.

Why haven't you titled the car in your name?
Yes, a legitimate dealer can transfer title but you're not a dealer, right?
Skipping title is illegal, both for seller and buyer.

I wonder if anyone has taken the time to actually read the original for sale post as opposed to debate with me my ability to sell it or not?. The car is on consignment at a dealer, has been there since Feb. 2020. The time has passed so I can offer it anywhere I want. I volunteered all links and documents in the interest of transparency but that doesn't seem to matter in this particular post for some reason. I've been on the fence for selling this car since it is such a clean example and I spent over $12K post purchase to make it proper to my standard, $14k if I factor in shipping. But as per noted on the post above, once I found the W124 I don't need two 4 door Mercedes sedans. I have over a dozen cars, with 2 more inbound. If a buyer wants to complete the transaction through the dealer they will legally transfer the title directly to buyer. If buyer wants to deal directly with me then I will title the car with an available exception in Florida called 'Application for Title without registration', as I will not have a need for registration nor license plate, pay the taxes, get the fast title issued and declaration of sale on the spot, in conjunction with the bill of sale to buyer and a new title endorsed by me so they can register it out of state. If buyer is local in Florida this is not needed, they get their new title in their name on the spot, and all is then provided to the buyer at the moment, it's an instant electronic paperwork task. Nothing illegal here attempted nor implied, let alone title skipping or whatever you are irresponsibly suggesting. This car has been in my vehicle storage facility since the light cosmetic and 'bringing back to stock' work was completed in Mid December 2019. I drove it 160 miles before restoration and about 140 miles after restoration then put it in storage since I prefer to drive my Porsches than this W202. Then Covid hit, and as I found the perfect W124 it is time for the W202 to go to a new home.

Hope this finalizes this scrutiny and gives an opportunity for any interested members to reach out to me with interest in buying the car. Shaky start, but I still have faith in this forum. After all, I don't think I would have gotten the necessary knowledge to properly buy the W124 without it. For that I am grateful. For discussions such as the above, I am not.

PM me or call me for any additional information on the car. I am done posting my business in an open forum.

Happy Father's Day Gentlemen.

I'm confused. It's passed through 2-3 owners, so how can it be a "one owner" car? You even reference the "PO", which would imply that you're at least the second owner?

I'm also confused by your claim that you don't have to title the vehicle in Florida. If you're a private owner you must title and register a vehicle within 30 days of purchase. I've lived here for 25 years and bought/sold numerous cars, even flipped a few, and I've never, ever heard of what you describe. I'm also very familiar with the requirements around dealers, as I have a few acquaintances who have dealer's licenses. Even as a consignment you would need to hold title. And how was it plated and insured when you drove it in Florida?

I'm very, very curious about how this can be done legally in Florida. It could save me a significant amount of money in the future if there's a way around the 30 day rule. Please elaborate, if you would. Thank you.

The GermanCarsForSaleBlog post says that the asking price for this car (via eBay) was $22K.

Screen Shot 2020-06-20 at 8.04.35 PM.jpg

The GCFSB comments say that this car was sold in California for $16,000, and then $6K was added to the price, and it was flipped (presumably for the eBay auction).

Screen Shot 2020-06-20 at 8.05.09 PM.jpg

Does this mean that the car had another "interim" owner from the $16K sale owner to the $22K asking sale owner? And now the current $32K asking sale owner?

It seems there are mysteries in the Universe that must be solved.

I take exception to that Gerry. Nothing ‘Squishy’ here, Especially since you did the data card for this car. It’s called title endorsement.
I do want to make a point of clarification: Data cards I create are a service -- I get a VIN and payment, and I create and send a data card. It's not an endorsement or evidence of any type of knowledge on my part of any given car. I just go by factory data sources in creating data cards. It's all a bunch of numbers, with zero knowledge of any specfic car behind them (save my own vehicles).

This is a C-Class, so for sure there are enthusiasts for C-class out there, why don’t you post it in their forum?

I wish you the best of luck with selling the car, @JAB12. I had a 98 C43 way back when and they are solid and comfortable cars. Seems like you have a decent, low mile example.

From your rather extensive initial post I think I gathered that in total the following work was done to the car under your ownership:
Paint coorection
Fluid flush and new fluids added
new battery
new oil
brakes flushed
new spark plugs
new fuel filter
lower control arm
40k mile service

To echo @ace10 ’s earlier question somewhat, is the above list correct or are there any other items you completed during your ownership? You said that you were waiting for some NLA part from Germany. Just wondering what those were, as I assume those had to be high dollar items. Otherwise the asking price increase between now and the last sale seems quite enthusiastic. In any case, GLWS.

Gerry, if the endorsement isn’t implicit then Pelota and I want to return our data cards 🙃

These reproduction data cards you make are of excellent quality and should go in everyone’s car manual pouch. Glad I bought one!

So the COVID pandemic has made you re-evaluate your mindset to less is more, and you are culling the herd and selling the C43.

But yet, you have a dozen-plus cars, with TWO MORE cars coming inbound to add to the total.

The statements seem a bit antithetical.

Plus 10 months ownership of the C43, cosmetic preparation, light mechanical work (suspension?), and 300 miles driven. Weird title avoidance tactics. Claims of "one owner" yet records indicate at least two, if not three owners.

These indications are classic signs of what we call a "flipper." Which is fine. It's just good to be up front about it.

GLWS. You may have better luck at BaT or eBay, or on one of the Benz forums that cater to 202 models?

I have never owned a C43 AMG but have driven one in the UK about 200 miles in a day (both highway and city) and found it to be a wonderful car and could be a proud owner of one if I wanted to. Personally I would prefer the updated C36 model with the 5 speed auto trans if I were in the market but I'm not. I chose my 500E instead buts that's not the issue here.

While this particular Black C43 AMG w/39K low miles and what appears to be a beautiful example is way overpriced at $31,900. IMOP at that asking price it's going to be on the market until hell freezes over.

Just browsing the internet I found a pristine low mileage Silver C43 AMG w/ 28K miles located in Virginia for For Sale at $18K

Most 1998 - 2000 C43 AMGs sell for under say $12K in most cases. Obviously they are not in the condition of these two but represent where the market is on these cars.

Just my $0.02

I bought it a day before the German cars blog article published this on it, unbeknownst to me. The comments on pricing and history there are most inaccurate. GCFSB picked up the photos from ebay then published their article. Car needed $12K+ on top of sale price to bring up to my standard and I happily spent it. Interior was/is immaculate as a low mile one owner California car should be. Everything functioned as it should but since car had been sitting for years these things had to be taken care of. It had a crazy music DVD system from the early 2000s and that was deleted by the seller and new OEM front headrests installed. I am taken aback by some of the shortsightedness unveiled through some of the comments above with no real interest on the car. A flipper's intent is to spend as little as possible on a vehicle and sell it quickly for profit, not almost a year later with hardly anything to gain. I would be lucky to break even and most likely will loose money when this car sells, as I noted in original post, reason for sale is not financial but no one seems to be reading intently. To further clarify the work done and expense I have summarized briefly below, everything is documented:

In Monterrey before I shipped the car:

Full 40k mile service
All OEM:
new plugs, starter coil
new battery
new lower control arms
new bushings
new fluids - all
new filters - all
new California emissions inspection - pass

When car got to Florida:
new A/C evaporator and cooling lines
new exterior temperature sensor
newly refurbished OEM AMG Monoblocks
new OEM wheel center caps
new OEM logo air valve caps
new correct tires Michelin Pilot Sports
new OEM tail lights (2) - NLA Germany
new OEM classic front grille (OEM avantguarde grille stored) - NLA Germany
Deletion of aftermarket bolted rear wing
Recover rear decklid
new OEM rear deck lid AMG emblems
Paint correction

There are a few smaller items as noted on the service documents

I've also bought back from original owner at the beginning of the year, the OEM head unit, OEM spare wheel/tire, OEM car cover, original stock springs, original illuminated door guard sills and other original delivery goodies, all included with sale. It ads up but these cars are worth it and I feel it is now complete. I have other cars for sale as well but they are not Mercedes and not the subject of this post. My goal is to downsize to 6 max. When I put the post up last night, I naively thought I was providing an opportunity for a genuinely interested member to be able to buy a limited production car in such a condition which is rarely found. But instead I am suggestively accused of an attempt to flip or employing some form of grey tactics etc. One lives, one learns.

This is the last message I am posting in response to some of the ill advised posts above. If anyone has any real interest in the car please either call me or send me a private message and I will be happy to discuss the entire vehicle history, service and expenses incurred as well as purchase options. Thank you to those that have commented positively, as noted on the original post, BAT has already accepted this car with a healthy reserve but I have not committed to the listing, I wanted to afford the chance in here first, but it has proven to be a disappointing mistake. Moving forward I'll remain on the W124 lane when posting in this forum.

Enjoy the Father's Day.

That Blog post is from January 2015 Sir. Case and point of what I have realized through the comments posted here by other members.

I think the red flag to many people here was loudly claiming in the title of the post that the car is a one-owner car. The CarFax documentation you posted clearly says 2 owners. Have you not been the legal owner of this car for the past 10+ months? It's a yes or no question.

This "one owner" claim is very very indicative of shady type flipper-dealer tactics, and it invites additional scrutiny, automatically, on this forum. You should have seen that over the past year-plus of being a member here.

Literally sir -- making a "one owner" claim coupled with title shenanigans, on this forum, is like dumping a 100-pound bucket of chum into the Gulf of Mexico, and then jumping out of your boat into the middle of the chum cloud.

At this point, you should go with the BaT option, since they have accepted the car. GLWS.

So I'm going to add $14K to the price "No Way".

Put it up for sale on BaT at least you will find out the real world value.

Good Luck

Yes. Unfortunate pricing here I think. Just cause you’ve put 💰💰💰 in doesn’t mean you’ll get 💰💰💰 out. Cars are typically not a ‘break even’ hobby.

BaT will indeed be the very best way to test out what the market will bear for this car.

Here is the BaT page detailing past sales — probably the best current indicator of the market and how the car would do at auction.

Highest previous sale is $27K for a car with 11K miles on it.

47K car that went for $18K, and another example for $15.5K. Nothing else much above $10K.
