35K mile used engine M119.982 - what to replace prior to installing it into the car?

Dear All,
I am new to the M119 world and have some maybe stupid questions. I nevertheless would appreciate any advice.
I have a used 35K miles M119.982 engine that I would like to install into my car.
Are there any seals or parts I should replace prior to installing the engine?
I know 35K miles is very low mileage, but maybe someone has experience with seals failing or likely to fail due to loosing flexibility with age. There might be other parts that are worthwhile replacing.
What kind of maintenance is generally recommended?
Thank you very much for your help!
Matthias

Hello Matthias,

Backing up a bit.. what car do you plan to install this engine in? Was the engine running recently, or has it been in storage for many years?

In general it would be a good idea to replace all the "soft" seals while the engine is out of the car. Front & rear crank seals, valve cover gaskets, and the oil level sender O-ring are the few which come to mind. All of these are easy with the engine out, and not fun once the engine is in the car. While the valve cover is off, measure chain stretch (cam timing) and eyeball the chain rails... the top "fingered" rails may be brittle and need replacement.

Hello Dave,

Thank you for your quick reply.

I plan installing the engine with a MaxxECU in a 1987 560SEC that already has a 722.6 transmission with Ole controller and electric cooling fans.

Have been looking for a 500E on and off for some time, but haven't found one yet that I liked. Didn't have the time so far either, but now I will be retiring in a few weeks.

The engine has been in storage for ca. 3 years now and came out of a car that had rear damage. This is all I know. Looks very clean inside - I took one valve cover off.
My initial idea was to replace the crank shaft seals and valve cover gaskets, but as I mentioned before, I am not familiar with the M119 and will certainly replace the oil level sender o-ring as well and check the timing chain and guide.

Again, any suggestions are appreciated!
