500E Help identifying engine part

Hi folks,

My car is in the midst of a top end refresh. The mechanic just sent me this photo of a broken plastic pipe he found under the manifold - he says it is cracked and brittle. He's in the process of figuring out its function. Can anyone here please identify the part and provide a part #?

Thanks in advance.

Photos are super small, but looks like it might be the 8mm OD plastic pipe that goes from the intake manifold PCV hose on the driver valve cover, over to the purge 'MOT' valve next to the EZL.

Thanks to both of you. Yes - the photos aren't great - will go to the workshop and get some better ones.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is a MOT valve? Is it the purge valve for the charcoal cannister?

Regardless of function, I'm wondering if it is an actual pipe or a fossilised hose.

Yes. The purge valve has one port marked "MOT" which is an easy reference.

It's a plastic (Tecalan) pipe, 8mm OD, that snakes through the intake manifold and exits at the air gap between the engine block and intake, then routes below the driver side distributor. It's semi-rigid, but flexible enough to bend around, but it is not a rubber hose.

Awesome - thanks. You, Gerry and a few others are this board's superpower - it's better that having a 500e AI!

I've been having a ton of idling problems which is why all this work is getting done. This could have been a contributor?

Here's a post regarding my replacement of my MOT valve with a new one, and I mention the large plastic Tecalan tube & elbow. You can see the Tecalan tube connection to the MOT via the rubber elbow.

As I said in the posts, 98% of peoples' MOT/purge valves are not working, and they don't even know it. Does a bad valve effect the operation of the car? Not usually.

You can see the Tecalan tube that goes to the rubber vapor PCV lines atop the manifold, in this photo. It is sticking straight up, directly behind the MAF in the center of the photo.

Here's how it's routed and held down, at the fuel rail:
