What your recommendation for odb2 tool ?

Why do you need a 16-pin adapter? Doesn't your car have a CAN bus with the 38-pin connector? For the record, the LH-injected M119 engines DO NOT use OBD2, and codes generally cannot be read by your off-the-shelf OBD2 code reader. They use an earlier, Mercedes-proprietary, OBD1-variant, pre-OBD2 DTC schema. Your best bet is going to be getting a laptop with a Chinese copy of the factory STAR C3 or C4 system.

There are a zillion threads here on code reading and what code readers work well, work partially, and don't work at all with these cars. Not to mention, actually a complete sub-forum devoted to the topic ("De-Coding") that would behoove you to read through.

while this car is a 28.8 baud rate modem compared to the w126 of 14.4, it is still dial-up diagnostics, not wifi LOL.

If you want live data, you need a digital scanner that specifically will communicate with Mercedes via OBD-1. Not OBD-2.

How can I verify it? I thought that this adapter translate the blink protocol to odb2 protocol…
NO. That adapter is almost useless. It may show some codes or data from the LH module only. It has no multiplexer capabilities and cannot to connect to more than one computer module. Your 1993 500SL has six total powertrain computers, not one.

But when I connect the 38pin adapter to standard odb2 it will work?
NO. There are no CAN connections available at the 38-pin connectors. There is only CAN between modules. Mercedes designed the OBD-1 diagnostics to only communicate with 1 module at a time, using a multiplexer (MUX) to switch between modules. That adapter connects you with one module. The adapter may provide more capability when using an iCarsoft scanner on late 90's models with both OBD-2 and a 38-pin connector but that is not what your car has.

If you want basic diagnostic codes you can use a hand-held analog blink code reader (~$50). For live data you need a digital scanner. There are some digital scanners that will work with most MB OBD-1 systems, but not all, for a few hundred bucks. If you want FULL capability, the ONLY option is SDS C3/C4 and it must must must have HHT-Win support. These are $500-$600 minimum. There's no cheap solution to get live data from all modules.

Note that for the iCarsoft adapter you bought, almost all the reviews (link) are for new models that already have OBD-2 connectors. Read the review below from a customer with a 119.975 which has identical engine controls to your 119.972. Plus another one with YOUR EXACT YEAR AND MODEL saying it does not work. Also, a lot of the reviews smelled very shill-y to me... more like paid reviews, not genuine.

I've got one of these. Doesn't work. The pins don't correspond with anything, to be blunt. I snagged mine some time ago for something like $3.00 mainly to get a couple of connectors out of the deal, nothing more. When I disassembled it, I tried making sense of the connections, but couldn't.

I just noticed the listing shows compatibility with 107, 126, and 201 chassis. These chassis NEVER had a 38-pin diagnostic port.

Also, I cannot find this adapter anywhere on the iCarsoft website. Makes me wonder if it's a counterfeit product. the iCarsoft official website (link) only references OBD-2 and has nothing that supports OBD-1 that I can find, nor any reference to 38-pin adapters. $50 is pretty steep but at least there are free returns.
