400E/E420 lower engine harness part number

Looks like my lower engine harness is in need of replacement, the upper harness is good and was replaced just a few years ago. I called the local dealership, the part number that they show for it is no longer available, has no stock in the United States or Europe, and says they will not be re-making them.

Does anyone have a good harness? I’m showing the part number to be 124 540 3130.

Numerous threads about this on the forum.

These can be rebuilt by member @jhodg5ck.

I called and left multiple messages for Jonathan at blue Ridge MB but haven’t heard anything back. Does anyone know a better way of getting in touch with him? Are there any other options for getting this repaired?

Any other suggestions on where I might find a replacement or reman? I’ve looked on eBay, nothing but upper harnesses; a google search doesn’t turn up anyrhing fruitful. Is there nowhere else to find this harness?

The only options are waiting for Blue Ridge, or having an electrical shop rebuild it for you, or rebuilding it yourself. The biggest hassle is the R&R of the harness from the car, rebuilding the harness is (relatively) easy.

Sourcing a good one to buy outright may be quite difficult, unfortunately...

While I certainly understand the desire to do `things like the factory and keep stuff original as much as possible...

Given:
—Only the sensor wires are subject to deterioration, not the power cable;
—New lower harness somewhat of a PITA to install;
—Effort possibly being spent to ensure better heat protection (before reinstalling following the original pathway!);
—Availability problematic for 400E420;
—Cost (likely) out-of-line with actual value of the harness IMO;
—Electrons will follow copper wire whatever (new) path the wire takes...

Why would’t someone not overly concerned with slavish originality:
—Cut the 4 thin sensor wires flush with the original harness, leaving it in place with it’s starter/alt connections intact,
—Using new or recycled connectors, make new individual wires stout enough and long enough to invisibly re-route them however you like around the periphery of the engine bay, and reconnect. Pair and sheath as desired.
—wrap the retained +cable as much as cosmetically desired.

That’s what I’d do, and neither my engine nor anyone else would ever know...
Still think, perhaps even more now, this ^ is a perfectly reasonable 400/420 option, tho’ seemingly less likely acceptable to plenty 500 owners.

Is there a date of production or vin # where the soybean insulation was stopped?
